Dell U2414h

Just an update. I bought a single U2414H and plug it via HDMI to my acer s46cb laptop. No issues up till now. I wonder if anyone is able to get MST working via displayport 1.2? a pity my laptop does not have a displayport if not I would have pull that stunt off.

I intend to run 3 monitors off the 290 crossfire but seeing so many complaints on dell's support site is so depressing.

Does this problem with random on and off the monitor only occurs when more than one monitor connected, or it occurs even though only used one monitor ?

Can this model be overclock, and how ?

Thanks

I only had one monitor. I went back to Microcenter and exchanged mine for a new one and have had zero problems since.

I've noticed some backlight bleed on mine. Wondering if I should get it replaced. What do you guys think? Here's a picture

Running 2 at work since April, via MST and DP 1.2 from a Surface Pro 2. Works fine. Had one occasion of a lockup, and disabled the channel talkback feature that enables the Dell desktop application to control the monitors. I have no need of using some additional desktop programs to adjust monitor settings since once I have it the way I want it I'm done. Disabling the channel talk back seems logically to simplify the amount of data going over the 1.2 channels. No problem of any kind since. The monitors are a joy to use in a dual config. I'd imagine that 3x1 would be fun too for those so inclined :)

These monitors still having issues with nvidia cards? Contemplating getting one but don't want to have to fight with it to properly output over HDMI/displayport.

Yes, the problem still exists with the latest drivers. However, the fix is easy when using HDMI.

Ordered this monitor today.
My current monitor is 7 years old, it works perfectly fine, but it is TN and I would greatly prefer better viewing angles.
Been waiting for the "perfect monitor" (16:10, no IPS glow, decent response time, 120+ Hz, great contrast, all the usual stuff) to arrive. Which sadly seems to never ever happen. So today I gave up.

I hope this will be a nice one to keep me going until OLED takes off :)

Really hope I get one that works out of the box, so depressing to read all the issues people have here - with all monitors. I realize people mostly post when they have a reason to complain, but it does seem like the quality control on monitors are worse than most other hardware.

Regarding settings on the monitor, anything worth changing as soon as you set it up?

Question guys. I run two of these at work in MST mode. One for my work laptop and one for desktops Im fixing. Since DP carries audio shouldn't I be getting a stream of it to my headphones from the audio jack from either input??

I picked one of these up myself this week. Ordered from Amazon and was disappointed to find that it had quite severe backlight bleed in the bottom left corner. However, I had it replaced by Amazon and the new one which arrived today is absolutely flawless. Really pleased with everything about it, except maybe the touch-sensitive buttons, which I've found a little hit and miss on both monitors. The rest of the package more than makes up for it though.

It's been quite the revelation coming from a 19" BenQ TN panel that I bought in 2007. I didn't know what I was missing.

Yeah I have one slightly yellow and one that is perfect. Since this is company money I dont see the point in sending them back. The buttons are very hit and miss on mine too. The whole DP MST thing is what I really wanted to use. It works great but then its back and forth after a while.

The latest nvidia drivers fixed the power-saving function taking 5 minute to kick in over HDMI. You still have to run the tool fix to get the full color range.

I don't have this monitor yet (buying in a couple of weeks), but I have worked with other monitors with display ports and audio out. In Windows 7/8 , you should be able to right click on your volume icon in the system tray and select Playback devices. Just set whatever your monitors come up with as the default playback device and it should work.

I just got two of these today, one has a great picture (HDMI) while the other looks washed out next to it (DisplayPort). What can I do to fix this? I used NV_RGBFullRangeToggle to get Full RGB.

My Rig:
i5-4670K
GTX 760 2GB
8GB RAM

HDMI on the right and DisplayPort on the left.

EDIT: Using a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter seems to have fixed it.

Did anyone else have issues with the USB hub not being recognized on the U2414H unless the monitor is switched off and on again?

I have set the USB power on the U2414H to "always on" (so USB devices are on even in standby). Problem is: when I power cycle the PC without also turning off the monitor, the USB hub isn't working anymore and the device driver says the hub can't start. (Win8 64-bit)

It'd probably work if I let it switch off the USB power during standby, but I'm not sure I want that.

So there are no issues with this monitor as long as it's connected via HDMI or displayport to HDMI adapter?

My card is a Titan Black.

I can't quite make my mind: I have 2 U2414h and one HDMI only monitor.
I need two independent audio output (one for the HDMI monitor, one on a U2414h)

I could either way go for
a NVIDIA(gtx 750ti for ex) use one HDMI and one DP for the U2414H
and my IGP(for the 2nd audio out to the HDMI monitor) OR for a AMD alone and daisy the U2414.

Any thought on the solution that should work flawlessly ? Thanks

I have 3 of these, Rev. A01. Wasn't able to find all this talk on the internet about how bad these are.

I have a Sapphire HD7970, ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe/GEN 3 Mobo, Intel i7 2600K (Sandy Bridge). I was able to daisy chain these over DisplayPort using the 1.2 setting on the OSD of the monitor. The chain displays correctly, HOWEVER, after about 15 minutes the output starts to lag and freeze up to the point of not being able to do anything.

It is extremely aggravating, but also puzzling. I've tried most things. Flash the bios, new cables, different order of cables, different port on the video card(mine has 2 miniDP), changing BIOS settings (like disabling iGPU), setting power options to High Performance, etc. etc. etc. Ultimately I could not escape that lag when using the MST technology to daisy chain 3 displays together.

There was ONE thing I could do, and this is what makes me even more mad: I could use 3d applications to avoid the lag. Like when I had World of Warcraft open and it was my active window, I would be getting 60+ fps and no lag. As soon as I was using the desktop on the other monitor, the lag would start again. It seems like if my video card was clocked up, it was displaying just fine. I noticed that when the windows desktop or other non intensive application, like internet browser, was my active window, the clocks on the video card would go down to min. levels. Lag would follow shortly after. Also, at some point in the lag my Dell Display Manager would lose knowledge of the monitors and give a message that I needed to connect a Dell monitor, even though moments before it had all 3 of my monitors and their settings correct!

I have all the latest drivers, (maybe there is some Sapphire firmware I'm not aware of), latest Windows 7 updates, BIOS, etc etc.

I even did the research to find the most recommended cables and they did the same thing, so its not the cables. Supposedly HD7970's are 1.2 compliant. I really can't think of anything else it can be...

I'm half tempted to just go all out and get a new mobo and video card, but I've already read people with R290X have the same issues so why bother?

Finally, I just quit .

Ideas?

if your 7970 had 2 DP port, its the situation any better if you don't daisy chain and use two DP port from the card?

Just a note about color. It seems that my latitude 6440 via a docking station produces off colors when using it with two or more screens. but when connected directly to my desktop via mini dp on the 6990 they are silky smooth and nearly identical.

Hi, could someone of the 80-Hz-guys please post some custom timings to begin with (CRU or nVidia control panel GTX670)? I'm using rev. A01 of the monitor with a DP > DP cable and I'm stuck at 76 Hz at the moment (same with DP > MiniDP cable). Is there some magic that can be done?

I got another question regarding the online frameskipping test. Control panel says 76 Hz and the image is more clear and smooth than 60 Hz and also games recognize 76 Hz VSync but the test still shows 60 Hz instead of 76 Hz. Why is that?

Thanks a lot. :)

Okay, got this a week ago, resolved a lot of issues but still have these two and not sure if the first one is a defect or the way it is:

1. When I adjust the contrast from around 68 up to 90, some background shades on websites shift color, more pronounced moving from 80 to 90. The background shade to be gray, it it will go brownish then even pinkish as I move it higher. Defect or the way it is?

2. The touch controls suck. They become less sensitive the longer you're adjusting. Pretty sure they're this way with all of them.

Trying to decide if I'll ship it back.

For the guy below, Nov 14, rev. A01

I read on dell forums that monitors manufactured before June 2014 have a firmware available for update, but only in service. From June they have the new one already installed.

After REV A00 and A01 is there a A02 released yet ? After you buy a new monitor or if you have one more recent, please post the revision and the manufacturing date.

I am trying to find out the latest manufacturing date for A01 and if there is a A02 (starting from what month?). I found one with A01 and June 2014 date.

Just tried it on another system, using a newer AMD card than the last (HD4800 vs 3800) and on this computer, its seeing the monitor as a TV using HDMI. It displays in a box about half and inch in. I can get it to the corners using overscan in CCC but it still looks TV like. Think its going back.

Taking a quick look through that link, I see their solution is the one I tried. Yes, it works to move the image to full screen, but it only lasts till you reboot, then you're doing it all over again. So, its an AMD problem with HDMI, not specific to my monitor? As for pixel format, I'm not being given that option with this CCC with this card, but I do on my other computer.

Yes, it is a problem with how video cards see HDMI 1080p displays. Nvidia cards don't have the underscan problem, but the colors are off, even when using DisplayPort. With Nvidia it can be fixed with a tool that toggles a setting if you use HDMI, but I've read the latest drivers fixed it, and that is no longer necessary. I'm currently using a display with only DVI, so I can't test it.

If you use DisplayPort with AMD cards, it should work without any issues.

Don't have a display port on my video cards. Having to reset scanning every time I come out of sleep mode or reboot is becoming pretty frustrating. Any way to "lock" the settings?

Okay, found a way. In case anyone else runs into this problem, you go into the registry and find everything that says TVEnableOverscan and set the number to 0. Come to think of it, I was supposed to do the same with Underscan but forget, but its sill working.

Hi all

I have two U2414H monitors, I don't know how to attach an image here so I have uploaded it to my dropbox.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/422u27ltqgf3s5n/IMG_0282-2.JPG?dl=0

As you can tell from the image, one is more "yellower" than the other. I've played about with the settings, change the cables etc, but the one on left is always slightly yellower than the other?

Other than this the monitors are perfect.

So my question is, which one do I replace? I have until Next week to send them back no questions asked so need to decide whether to keep them.

Thanks

A few people, including TFT Central, are saying lately that U2414H is using a low glow panel.
Can someone confirm this?

Does anyone know the best way to match color on these displays? I have 6 of them and 2 are yellowish.. none match exactly. I am using a MST hub, 3 way split and three USB 3 graphics adapters. I really wish my e5540 could run all six without the adapters, but alas, it isn't supported with intel HD.... which is sad, cause if you can support the screen res, why not support across multiple monitors/

Is this still a good buy guys? Have defects crept up or been solved in later models? Thanks :)

I have six of them, they all work fine. They don't match perfectly, but I don't have anything to calibrate them with. They are good enough for my purposes. Definitely wait until they are on sale.. they were $250 something not long ago.

Hi everyone, just to make sure - this monitor is meant to work with DVI to HDMI cable?

I get "No signal detected" when I try that. Switched to both HDMI 1 and 2 with the same result. Anyone got advice on this?

EDIT: Woo got a fix! I think the problem might have been in using a DVI I to HDMI cable. Got a DVI D to HDMI female adapter with HDMI cable and it works!

Just got mine in today and the SRGB factory calibrated mode is tinted green. The monitor looks mint flavor. Anyway I switched to a custom mode and eyeballed my own colors as best as I could...

I also noticed Nvidia has added a full color RGB option under their HDMI settings so no fixes are necessary, however it still defaults to Limited color.

Contender #2 came in yesterday. This one actually has bruising in several spots, what the fuck Dell? And of course the entire left side of the panel is about 50% brighter than the rest of the screen thanks to the excessive backlight bleeding.

Third arrives tomorrow.

Hi guys, can anyone help with P2414H vs U2414H does the U worth 65 euros +?

Also how is the coating, clarity, and color accuracy going from one to other?
