Halo 5: Guardians

I really don't like the campaign. Doesn't feel like Halo. The weapons all pretty much suck and there isn't enough ammo for the good ones.

Haven't played MP yet. Really looking forward to Warzones.

So, have yet to buy an XBone or play Halo 5 yet... Loved Halo 1-3

From what I saw, it looks pretty much like a Call of Duty game with a Halo skin.Lets say "Halof Duty"

Rate my assumption accuracy from 1-10.

Plays nothing like call of duty. They did add the ability to aim down sights, which halo veterans rarely use anyways (no benefits). .

I'm going to be a smartass and say that if it plays nothing like CoD, than it must be a third-person turn based RTS?
/smartass

But seriously, the movement, ADS and TTK all look like CoD. I'm happy to hear that it feels different.

This ^^^^^^^^, but I have not liked a Halo campaign since CE. IMHO Halo 2's SP story was hot garbage and single player has been downhill ever since.

With regard to H5 campaign, humans "docking up" with elites to fight pedo elites and discomethians is ghey as fuck. Also, I find it stupid that humans, who are on the verge of extinction and have few precious resources to spare, are gonna be able to send out their next 4 best spartans on a circle jerk mission to rusty trombone the master chef

And playing with human weapons for five seconds until you run out of ammo and have to resort to using pew pew pew laZor sponges is ghey as fuck too.

The enemies are not satisfying to fill with holes....this actually goes all the way back to CE as I have always felt that the grunts were stupid as fuck and very unsatisfying enemies. However, at least in CE the Elites and Flood were entertaining to shoot. Fighting the discomethians in H5 has given me seventeen seizures and four strokes, killing elites got boring 11 years ago and the grunts......seriously why are the grunts still here??? Grunts have literally sucked ass since day one. All in all the enemies are very unsatisfying and GEEZUS how many times are they gonna make you fight the friggin warden? Lord have mercy!

Whortana wearing more clothes with less clevage this go around, is a big negative-o

What gets me the most is how detailed some of the levels look and them bam, the next levels looks like some crapola from a PS1 game....the quality of level visuals is downright shameful in some areas.

I find the controls to be great, the constant 60fps to be great, and the spartian abilities to be great....you truly do feel like a badass with the tight game controls.

Halo 5 MP feels really good. I had a blast today with some friends, did my first 10 arena matches to get ranked. I havent played campaign yet so I can say how the story is but at least I have a game I want to play on my Xbox One now.

I wonder if that's the 'dynamic resolution' tech at work or if it's just the art design in those areas.

Is it stopping at 98%? That's normal, stays there for like 20 minutes.

Yeah it was stuck at 43% for over an hour. I just left it on over night and I think its complete now. I'll have to check it out when I'm off work.

My install keeps getting stuck. Anyone else have this problem?

The install gets stuck because its downloading a patch immediately during the game installation.. I think its a 9GB patch....

as for my experience with the game.... story is a bit confusing... since i never read any of the books and barely understood what was going on in halo 4.... but it looks like they're trying to tie the books, games, and tv show/ web episodes all together with this game... I haven't completed the campaign yet... the enemy AI is impressive and pretty ridiculous on legendary... the allied AI remains to be brain dead.....

some guns feel the same and alright... my only complaint is with the battle rifle.. where the fuck is my burst shot???? the br is supposed to have a 3 bullet burst shot and not shoot all 3 at the same time...

as for multiplayer... i feel like only 4 maps exist because thats all i get to play on...what about map voting... some game modes seem to be missing from halo 4.... where is forge? ... sprinting is nice... but terrible idea since most of the maps are relatively small and distance can be covered immediately.....where are the big ARENA maps :/

warzone is fun... it kind of reminds me of destiny on patrol but with pvp in there as well.... however they need to rework the rewards on killing those VP AI enemies.....

the req system is alright not too different from typical SR grinding... but cosmetic unlocks are now determined by RNG... which is what i dislike.... i dont like the idea of microtransactions at all... but if im not forced to buy then i dont mind i guess

Finished the campaign last night and I warmed to it a bit by the end. The Supressor and Carbine are the only UNSC weapons I can stand. The rest kind of suck. I would have liked a 50/50 mix between Osiris/Blue Team. There just weren't enough missions with Master Chief. I liked the new Monitor's personality. Hopefully it's in the next game. Overall it's definitely the worst campaign of the series but wasn't quite as bad as my initial impression.

Hmm... anybody else think the horizontal look speed seems slow? I don't think it was this slow in beta.

Finished the campaign. I must say I was very disappointed. Nothing was ever really tied together or made any sense. Too much Locke, who just isn't an interesting character unlike the Arbiter was in Halo 2. Not enough MC, who seems to have turned into a wuss. And the political correctness was put on so thick and overdone it was oozing out every pixel and came off as just silly. The loss of couch coop was also a huge blow, my brother and I always enjoyed playing Halo that way.

I've no interest in multiplayer and will never play it, nor have I with any Halo game.

My review score of the game would thus be 5 out of 10.

Nice, sounding like a classic roger ebert review... also sounding like a huge noob at multi since you can't even give it a shot... you shouldn't be playing fps guy, keep hitting those mmorpg grind fests

edit: also I will state I haven't even played the game yet, just reading your post cracked me up

So you played half of the game content and you rated it this?

mmmkay pretty fair.

A lot of people are complaining about it but the dev's said this is normal for some reason..

well, for some of us .. online multiplayer isn't a selling point .. The main feature of this series is/was, the split screen co-op. With that gone, I'd give the game a 5 out of 10 (at the most) without even playing any of it. :(

For me I'll break it down like this.

Story: 6/10 (I don't know where to begin with this one. While I was entertained with the way it played out, the actual end goal seemed underwhelming and just a lame excuse for another Halo. We need a more original story from this series.)

Graphics: 7/10 (Too much variation from god tier console graphics to shit I saw in Halo 2 but mocap and cut scenes looked great and the game did run smooth almost throughout.)

Gameplay: 7/10 (It's ok, it plays more like Halo Advanced Warfare with all the jet pack boosting and ledge grabbing. Aiming feels like a chore though, what's up with that? Plenty of guns to keep me entertained which is good.)

Multiplayer: 6/10 (I think half the content is missing, I swear they take 1 step forward 2 steps back with this game. Where are my custom games? You can't change shit in the settings it sucks! I want my forge back. Warzone is fun and new and I like the randomly spawning AI objectives to keep teams engaged instead of camping at bases. Fuck microtransactions.)

Overall 6.5/10

What made Halo awesome was the amazing couch multiplayer with 4 player split screen. I remember having lan parties with friends with 2 Xbox supporting 8 players via lan was awesome.

Who's bright idea was it to take out 4 player split screen?

I would have bought an Halo 5 Xbox One and 3 extra controllers but someone dropped the ball.

Only reason I own consoles is for couch multiplayer and exclusives that don't come out on PC.

Reached mission 7. Campaign is so shit. Tried joining a war zone match and couldn't join for 3 tries so just ended the night. Will try again.

Graphics really look shit. My son was saying uncharted on PS3 had better graphics and he is correct.

You wonder why Bungie left Microsoft so they could have all that creative freedom with Destiny.

Their mistake was partnering with Activision. That companies goal is to make vanilla franchises and charge for additional toppings.

I played through Mission 9 tonight... well, if you want to call it a mission. Once the 10th mission started I figured it was a good place to stop for the night. Really enjoying the game, minus the 4th and 9th missions. Why 343 even included these is beyond me.

Me and my cousin lol'd when we finished mission 3 and there was a 15 minute cut scene then we got the mission 4 complete achievement. We just kind of paused and said "That was a mission?".

That's dumb. In Beta it was A LOT better handling than it is now. Artificially adding in slow looking horizontally makes it just as terrible as CoD: Advanced Warfare, which made the game terribad.

I guess they couldn't balance the game properly, so they had to artificially handicap everyone?

Well, I'm on Mission 12 now and so far the single player is pretty fun. Not the most fun I've had with Halo, but not terrible. While I understand the reasoning (we aren't on human worlds/no marines or backup to drop supplies), I don't like how you have just enough ammo for about 5 minutes with the human weapons and then it's back to the forerunner guns every mission. The covenant plasma pistol sound they added is hilarious, it literally goes pew pew pew now :p. Like someone else mentioned, I miss the 3 round burst of the battle rifle. With that said, it has been fun so far, I do like the new thruster pack stuff and the new moves. Also, some of the assasination animations are cool. For some reason sprinting only works part of the time for me though, I dunno if I'm just doing it wrong or what... but i think i would enjoy the spartan charge more if I could count on it working heh.

The main complaint I have that is holding me back from really liking Halo 5 is that the story seems so disjointed and I feel like I have no idea what the heck is going on. At least Halo 4 attempted to fill you in as you played. Maybe it's the jumping back and forth between Master Chief and Locke, but I'm at mission 12 and still feel like I'm only getting the tiniest bits of the story... like they cut out a heck of a lot of the cut scenes in post or something :(.

I still haven't picked up my copy from the Newegg warehouse. I don't even give a fuck at this point because I have a sneaking suspicion that 90% of the team's resources were spent on multiplayer BS. Why don't these idiots get Eric Nylund to write the story?

Yes, that would be amazing! Heck, I'll even take Karen Travis (Ghosts of Onyx was good imo) at this point.

Wait, what the frack? ...That was the end of the game?? I feel like I played the first 3/rd or maaaybe half of a Halo game. Is 343i turning Halo into the damn Hobbit movies?

EDIT: Hmm I just looked at my service record and apparently I have 8:54:41 logged so the campaign was almost 9 hours. But i swear it felt like half of that and there is so much missing from the story. I really, really, hope they get someone like Nylund to do a companion novel to fill me in on what the heck just happened during Halo 5 hehe.

That in-game timer counts paused time too. I counted 7-8 hours for my playthrough and it definitely felt short.

played about 5 warzone matches last night, not a single issue joining any of them. All games launched very quick which was nice. Gonna save the single player till I have more than 1-2 hours to sit down and play

Why don't these idiots get Eric Nylund to write the story?

Well, One of the first Halo Novels (and arguably one of the best) was The Fall Of Reach, and nine years later when Bungie/Microsoft developed a game that basically follows that EXACT event (Halo: Reach) They completely threw out the novel and retconned everything into the most depressingly bland story I've witnessed in the SciFi genre. So, even when they HAVE Nylund's source material, they completely shit on it.

Thank you.
As great as a writer Nylund was, him and Bungie's creations were not on the same page. At least with 343, these stories are connected.

Is it just me or is the MC out of character? Since when is he someone who "does what he wants"? I thought part of his appeal was that he was committed to following orders.

I have only done a couple of missions but will say that the team system is stupid as hell. The problem is that it gave 343 an excuse to spawn a billion enemies at you as a desperate attempt to balance the playing field. And I don't feel like a badass when I have three other super-powered peeps following me around.
