Are we ever going to see a fully enabled Tonga?

At the right price and sporting 4gb of GGDR5 it would be a great AMD card given:
> GCN 1.2
> Bandwidth compression tech
> Full A-Sync support

What news?

Why does having ASINK matter? It's a piece of shit technology for piece of shit monitors. What does matter is the RAMDAC quality.

async is not for monitors LOL, go back to your nvidia cave with your other monkey friends.

LOL, that made no sense, but pretty funny...

A 380x card would be great and is a mystery why it is not available. Hmm, just some theories... either AMD doesn't have enough of them OR a certain large client wants to use them exclusively. Who knows...

I thought "full" Tonga (m295x desktop) was a sure thing? Or is full Tonga actually just going to be HBM2, or "Ellesmere" and "Baffin" which both recently taped out?

Lol I am sure you have an nvidia tattoo and nvidia sponsored undies go back to your cave your nvidia pals are waiting for you watching nfl on their crt monitors.

he's actually not an nvidia troll just a retard
he hates all "sinks" equally without even beginning to comprehend anything about what he hates. He complains in any thread where GSync or FreeSync are mentioned, and apparently also in threads where Asynchronous rendering is mentioned too.

You'll got me crying over here. My family that came to visit thinks that I am watching a comedy show with my headphones on. Real tears. Thanks for making my day. ;)

He is a crt fanboy.

I'm curious if they'll go with a 384bit bus on this or not. Would be really interesting if they did.

What really amuses me is the fanboy-extremism. In another thread he said something to the effect of "I hope NVidia finishes off AMD so (blah blah)"...what they don't realize is that if nVidia became a monopoly, they would extort insane amounts of money from their fanboys for new GPUs.

Competition is good, kids...remember that.

I'm thinking about acquiring a Toto sink... but I may have to settle for a smaller Kohler :( FeelsBadMan

They're not adaptive, but they are undermount :)

In 25+ years of playing in the technology market, I've found there are few certainties. One of the few is when a single company is able to control design, pricing and manufacturing of a component without competition, it's always categorically bad news for the consumer and OEMs. Stuttered development, price gouging, minute version enhancements... all the hallmarks of a monopoly. Look at Creative in the early 00s and, to a lesser, extent Apple.

Should AMD go under, it's bad news for everything except the pocketbooks of NVidia execs. I'm hoping they are able to find market niches (which the 380x may very well fit) where they can remain successful.

Edit: for an example of the chicanery a company that owns a market entirely can pull on consumers, Creative had started charging for a simple software piece to re-enable a feature their own driver update disabled on their soundcards. They were effectively holding one of their card's features hostage for ransom. Can't recall what that little app was named...

Doubtful. AMD already is completely uncompetitive (unless you want a computer that puts out a lot of heat and adds a lot of cost to the power bill...) and is in the process of selling off ati/radeon group. If they went under before selling radeon group we would only be without their GPUs for a generation or two.

I wasn't sure about Asynchronous Compute. I thought "ASINK" was another way to say Adaptive-SINK. TIL.

I wish AMD would come back, but at this point, I do not think it is possible. It feels like they are prolonging their demise.

Agreed. The best we can hope for is that they will sell off different parts of the company to someone that will give a shit/do a better job. Then, maybe we will get a solid GPU design (and CPU for that matter).

I would be on a 380X in a heartbeat if it came out. I would guess performance to be exactly half of a Fury X, since my pair of 380's matched my standard Fury within margin of error (shader count is exactly the same).

I would also like to know if anyone has some info about timeframes. We saw some pics of a Sapphire card (I think anyways) at one point but no mention of dates.

The old CRT Truther here to to spread the joy of 1440i resolution and 150lb monitors. Tell us, please, tell us: How do we set the Windows Display settings to output ∞bit colour again?

I'm positive it will! See, after sitting on a new GPU decision for a few months, yesterday I bought a 390. That means they'll announce the new family about the same moment I see the UPS man walking to my house with the card I just bought.

That's how it always works.

If I hadn't bought the 390, AMD wouldn't announce a new card.

You're welcome. ;)

LoL, I know the feeling... Amongst the few purchasing guidelines I set for myself, I usually now only buy GPUs on major "Tic" product cycles, not "Tock" refining cycles.

Having said that, I'm currently using these 2x CF 280x "Tock" cards I kept as leftovers from mining which are still going surprisingly well enough to push past this current card generation. AMD keeps increasing their card performance even years later, great stuff!

So you have that problem too?!?!? I thought I was the only one lol...As for the 390, as long as you didn't overpay for it, you should enjoy it for a while..They are great cards, and I hear good things about the O/C'ing ability of them..Most of the good cards can reach ~1150Mhz or higher, which is pretty darn fast..

I hit the Silicon Lottery (twice) with my last 2 cards..My MSI 7950 (used the 7970 PCB and power setup) did 1.375Ghz game stable and 24/7 F@H stable (when not gaming) and my first 290 (when run by itself) does 1.275Ghz..Now that I have a pair of them I run them at 1.1Ghz since I only need 60FPS @ 1440P..There isn't any point rendering frames I can't see;)..

Back on topic, I am excited to see what this card can do..At it's rumoured $249 price point, it should own anything Nvidia has and will hopefully be nipping on the heels of the 970...I hope it also overclocks as well as the 7900/280 GCN 1.0 cards...Imagine if these can hit ~1150Mhz on air, I bet Nvidia will quickly counter with either a price drop for the 970 or release a 960TI/965 since the sub $250 market is a huge part of both Vendors profits..

If 1100mhz base clock is true... I want one. This seems like a really nice card at $250.

Not always the case. Amd got a unlikely customer in me just because they offer 40+" ips 4k monitors with adaptive sync and nvidia may never

yea at 250 i might just bite....sell my fairly new 280x for about 100 even and ill only be down about 150 from that point....

The effective street price in the US for the R9 390 and GTX 970 have fallen below their official launch MSRPs.

The R9 390 has had multiple SKUs at $300 (or lower) and same with the GTX 970 (which also has the value added game bundle).

At the other end it will be undercut by 4GB 380s and 960s which have fallen below $200. (4GB 380 actually available for $170 atm).

I don't see why $250 for this would be considered good value. It will not hold that MSRP for long (same situation with as the GTX 950).

Really thinking this would be a good bet for 1080p.. a 390 is a bit overkill for the mATX build I want to do for my wife. Hopefully we hear something this week.
