An expert gamer shaved 66 milliseconds off the 'Super Mario Bros.' speed record

By Darbian on Twitch. I watched this live as it happened. He was so confused at the end, it was amazing to watch. His live timer showed it equal to his previous PB, but counting the frames shows the new record. I got kind of worried, because he shows a heartrate monitor, and his heartrate shot up to 160 after the run.

There were a few microscopic mistakes that a casual viewer probably wouldn't notice, but I really don't think this is getting beat anytime soon. It is now only 0.16 seconds off of the TAS, or about 10 frames. Getting a TAS run will require pole glitches on all levels except 8-3, which is hard to do in a live run.

My comment;
-he was not getting killed by the fly traps from the tube, incredible.
-and that world 8-4 last top tube glitch wall jump was uncalled for I guess.

HIS FACE!!

lmfao!

In all seriousness though, that was damn impressive.

It honestly makes me sad, that this is what people are interested in. It makes the future in The City and the Stars a very realistic premise.

I certainly wouldn't want this listed as my life's achievement.

The terms "expert gamer" / "professional gamer" already makes me cringe. The exact point of gaming is to let off steam, to enjoy yourself. Making it your life's purpose or a career beats the purpose of gaming.

Yeah I feel the same way about professional athletes. The exact point of playing basketball or football is to let off steam, to enjoy yourself. Making it your life's purpose or a career beats the purpose of playing the game for fun.

I consider myself an anal-retentive gamer; I have to do, literally everything in the game in order to actually "beat" it. To me, that's enjoyment.

Kudos to this kid for achieving a record, but honestly, doesn't really wow me...

Actually for this one, the community are referred to as speed runners, and they certainly do not brand them self professional (AFAIK anyway).

It's just a different approach to gaming.Similar to the person who dedicates a majority of their gaming time to one competitive multiplayer game, or MMO. Some people enjoy playing different games, and we only go trough each game once and on to the next. While others prefer dedicating them self to certain games.

Incredible play!

I'm not into speed running but I noticed a few times where there were the very faintest of
hesitations but I wasn't sure if those were intentional or not to get the timing right for the next moves

Only real goof I noticed was right before the pole on one of the 8 worlds where he overshot a block and came to stop before jumping again

Odds are though this wont be beat easily

They are doing what they love to do and are making money from it. I don't see an issue. If you don't like that kind of thing, don't watch it and move on with your happy life.

Wow. Pretty cool. Not my cup of tea, but pretty cool.

He didn't know what happened? Did he go die? :)

It can be nuts how much time people can put into some games to really master stuff like that.

I have a friend that could beat metal slug 1 and 2 without dying. I seem to remember something hidden in one of them if you managed to beat it without dying or in one credit but I couldn't find it searching.

Shortly after I got my neo geo arcade machine he came by. Managed to beat metal slug 2 on one credit and this was without practice. It was crazy to watch.
