Stable driver version for 390? (before Catalyst 15.7.1)

I'm experiencing a problem with playing videos via media player which, after trying out all the possible solutions I wasn't able to fix it while using the latest "stable" driver (Catalyst 15.7.1)

As such, I was wondering what is the previous stable Catalyst driver for 390? The 14.12 and 14.9 (both WHQL) seems to be the last stable versions though it looks like those drivers won't support 390 series at all.
Searching in between these drivers yield nothing but a bunch of beta drivers which I'm not interested in. Is 15.7.1 the only driver that supports 390 at the moment?

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help.

what your actual problem with media player would be helpful.

in a vacuum however, try 14.12 Omega. the 390 is just a 290 with some updated power controls in the silicon.

In this thread I learned that Metro Media Player is the only FreeSync media player. Works for everything I threw at it. I'm not much of a video connoisseur other than I can tell when something looks bad. :) Read the entire thread as there are some AMD features in their drivers that can make your videos look more fluid.

Metro Media Player Pro is in the Windows Store for $1.49 if you really like it and want to upgrade to that version.

If that's the case then I'd definately try 14.12. It's just that I couldn't find an official page stating it actually supports 390 hence why I'm hesitant to try it.

As for the problem, after upgrading from my 7950 to 390, I sometimes get a black flashing screen as a whole or as a block on random occasions. The flashing only lasts split second and it seem to happen when the scene switches to different cut/background.
I'm currently using potplayer via LAV filters (with madVR video renderer). I'm using the exact same settings I've used on 7950 except for changing the scaling options and using error diffusion for dithering.
For Catalyst video settings, I've disabled everything (or use the potplayer settings) except for deinterlacing which I'm using "use automatic setting" and "pulldown detection" for that specific setting.

All in all, playing around with potplayer/madVR settings didn't fix the problem. I also thought of downgrading Directx to 9 (from 11) though I suspect it would worsen the problem even more.

Hence why I'm eager to downgrade the driver to see how it goes. Not to mention I didn't experience this issue on my previous 7950 at all.

Unfortunately I'm not interested in "FreeSync" at the moment and I never heard about such media player.

When you switched your cards did you do a complete driver wipe with DDU or did you just change the card figuring they both use the same driver?

I was using 14.9 on 7950 which, I uninstalled it via control panel (http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx#Win7). I didn't use DDU when removing this driver.

Then I replaced the card with 390 and installed Catalyst 15.7.1 (http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/catalyst-windows-install.aspx#7).

have you tried messing with the new video options in CCC?

id also try reinstalling after using DDU to see if that cleans it up. it only takes a few minutes.

use ddu you will get it on guru 3d and for the love of god use the latest drivers which you can find in the amd subforum

Alright I'll use DDU and reinstall 15.7, see how it goes.

15.7 is the latest "stable" driver available at the moment. Unless you're referring to beta drivers, which I'm not keen on using.

Beta doesn't mean unstable with regard to these drivers, simply lack of WHQL certification. I've never had an issue with AMD's "beta" drivers. They aren't going to blow up your system, they may actually fix your problem. Don't like them? Just use DDU and uninstall them. Seriously, WHQL doesn't mean shit. Look at nvidia and their precious WHQL drivers over the past year or so, their "betas" were better. I recently yanked a GTX 970 out of my wife's system and replaced it with a 390X running the latest 15.10 drivers. It fixed every issue she was having. So seriously, get over the "beta" tag and at least try them.

agreed, AMDs beta drivers are just as stable as WHQL.

If you dont use HDCP, there isnt any reason not to use them.

Excuse my ignorance with beta drivers. I'm still stuck with the mindset of using "stable" drivers is the way to go.

That being said, I'll try the latest beta driver (15.10) and see how it goes. I'll report back once tested.

I was having issues with 15.10 beta as World of Tanks would show the game as purple.. I had to uninstall the driver like AMD says to first and then I used updated DDU.. now 15.10beta work prefect on desktop and gaming.

Bugger me, the latest beta driver also didn't work.

Just want to double confirm before proceeding, the 390 series have no problems with 14.12 correct?
