Can you imagine the Medal of Honor D Day beach invasion with todays graphics and sounds?.....I think we could do so much more with the WW2 scenarios.

A stealth part playing the French resistance in occupied France,

A bomber simulator where each position is manned by a human in Multiplayer....

A prison escape and then if discovered having to get away on a motorbike or car through the streets.

Sick of the future tech stuff.

Just a thought or 2....slow day at work .. :D

I'd prefer the Day of Defeat side of things, but yes, I agree.

I'd actually like to see BF 1942 remade as well. They could call it... BF 1943.

I thought wolfeinstein was a ww2 fps game.

Anyway I'd only be interested if you played as axis, I'm sick and tired of playing the same old scenario, as the american/french hero taking out de-humanized "nazis".

agreed, but it should be BF1944 :p ...and it should be open and moddable

HAHAHAHAHA riiiight......EA !#*$#()@*(#

a remake of BF1942 would be very welcome, loved flying the planes doing strafing runs....great game.

I think this will definitely happen. I remember playing Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and the beach landing was incredible. Almost exact recreation of the Saving Private Ryan scene even the script.

But yeah, we have been given "Modern" era shooters longer than the WW 2 shooters so I think it will come to that point where everybody will be burned-out on modern shooters (which I have been for quite a while) and they'll go back to WW 2. I welcome it... I mean, I remember playing Battlefield 3's campaign last and I was so impressed with the graphics in some of those areas that if I saw a D-Day recreation using today's graphics my face would fucking melt off.

LOL not EA, I know they were trying different things for modern BF games, many of the more aged and even new gamers like to go back in time, more then they like to play a techno inspired future, there have been VERY few new or later future modern games that I actually enjoyed, seeing how they butchered new BF, sorry but I have lost all hope for this series.

The whole concept of a modern OMG glitzy engine, to depict a rough war scene with blood and grime, just does not fit, they make the modern ones "feel" more like watching a pre-rendered ultra HD hollywood movie, more then that older cinema saving private ryan edge of despair/humanity feeling that many World War depicting game/movies should be focusing on.

Real world, even with modern cameras and such, it looks more like old cinema then this techno garbage. Make it more realistic and less of the pseudo rendered fantastical garbage look THEN worry about making it the desired experience by adding fancy equipment, if the "feel" is not right, story is done, the game is not worth playing.

IMO they have seemed to lost much of this after COD4/BF2, limitation of engine with fish bowl look, or they simply focused on crap that really has no place in a wargame for trying to "depict" a camera crew look instead of "behind his eyes" look like so many of the older games, beyond the graphics, honestly, Medal of Honor 1 and 2 were the most jaw dropping experiences that I fondly remember, followed by the amazing COD4 experience for that slightly "newer" experience, and BF2 for that "world is going to fall over" feel.

Everything else has just been a shooter and VERY lacking in comparison, IMHO. glitzy engines belong in some MMO, some racing games, few MMOPFPS, but NOT in any FPS I can comfortably say for my own tastes.

I remember they touched on WW2 in Mafia 2, and that's what got my brain wandering. While a FPS set in WW2 using a modern engine would be great, what about a WW2 first-person RPG using a modern engine?

Fuck it, I don't care. Just give me more WW2. I miss my M1 Garand *ping*.

I was thinking the same thing. We need a new WW2 shooter with a modern engine. A decade or so ago, it was a saturated period. There were a ton of WW2 games out there. Now, none. We need a new one. Just a bad ass one.

It wasn't all that long ago people were complaining we had too many WW2 games, lol.

All that long ago being? seems like 9 or 10 years ago now before the big shift to modern combat.

But yeah WW2 on a new fancy engine would be awesome.

Would love to see another WW2 game like Call of Duty / United Offensive with a UT4 or Frostbyte engine. COD / UO , still my favorite. :)

A WW2 shooter, eh? Maybe a WW1 shooter.

It is definitely going to happen. ;)

See you on the... battlefield.

WWII flight sims? Check here:

WWII FPS? Try RO2/RS. You won't see a new shooter from a big studio more than likely because you can't milk it with unlocks. Surely you can do it to a small degree like RO2 did, but that was pushing it. Going full on CoD with unlocks, accessories ect. and you're really not playing a WWII game anymore anyways.

Like it or not, traditional shooter games are dying. Most require MMO grinding and micro transactions because that is how they can optimize profits. WWII just doesn't fit into that model.

Yeah I am overall kinda annoyed with this trend. A solid story driven "human interest" war game, with a sweet multi. The first COD literally blew my mind, same with the first MOH. COD4 was great as well for the story.

Meh, getting old... Get off mah lawn!!!

To be honest, by default, I am more fascinated by WW2 shooters than I am with Modern or futuristic ones.

With this said, the WW2 action/shooter phase was here and was here for a while.
Day of Defeat 1.0
Day of Defeat source
World War 2 Online
Medal of Honor
Call of Duty 1,2 and 3
Battlefield 1942
Call of Duty World at War
Brothers in Arms series
Company of Heroes
and so many others in the last 15 years.
However they have definitely slowed down a bit, if not, they've been ceased entirely.

I was really hoping for a World at War 2(rumors speculated this was happening), but instead there is another Black Ops game that I won't buy.

I'd like to see Medal of Honor take another crack at it. Better yet, I'd like to see a reboot of Allied Assault. After MOHAA and Spearhead, the entire series went to utter shit.

Battlefield 1942 was great and definitely deserves a reboot/remake, but not yet.

Brothers in Arms had something going for themselves, but fell short every time IMO.

We do have the Sniper Elite series, but they really are a B type shooter IMO.

If Dice came out with a "Battlefield" reboot, with a WW2 theme, I would sign up and pre-order it the day I hear about it. I don't care what opinions are based on DICE. They are literally one of only a few DEVS that I would trust in bringing us a bad ass WW2 multiplayer shooter.

An actual and true DDAY battle would be exceptional fun and should definitely be frustrating for the allies, and then the axis of course when the allies break through.
Day of Defeat had a custom map called Omaha Beach, and when the server was full, it was pretty bad ass.

But 12-13 years later, we have so much better graphical powers to play around with. Instead of anxiously awaiting for a next year WW2 hit, I know that the longer it takes to come out, the better looking it will be.

My first thought as well. I remember when CoD 3 came out people were tired of all the WW2 shooters.

Now people are sick of "modern warfare"...it just happens when the market gets over-saturated with too many of the same game.

To be fair, CoD has been "modern" for 8 years straight now.

Take a look at Squad. Not WW2 but appears to be an excellent team based fps.

I would like that too but god forbid if kids started playing as German/Nazis and killing any other race or nation. Imagine the shit storm that would create in our politically correct world of today.. LOL :D

bf1942 with nothing more than physics and graphical updates would be amazing. I loved the maps they had.

yep, best part of the older WWII games, M1 Garand and Bar, I really do miss that "thrill" from playing the older games (very much the *ping* that were way more focused on quality of the game then the modern have to make it glitzy and money hand over fist.

Damnitall, War games NEED to be dusty and grimy not sunshine and rainbow explosions FFS. screw this modern take on having to make everything appear like it does in hollywood.

They do have an WW1 combat game but I think it's only online multiplayer only. Should be on steam. (Called "Verdun" I think)

I agree.

Unfortunately we both know what that'd look like:

- Unlocks
- Season Passes
- Killstreaks
- Lots and lots of stats
- Every weapon ever made during the time period.

It'd be a fair trade-off to get a non-modern BF. The modern aspect was fun, but there's something that seems more skilled based when you're playing with bolt-actions and not a lot of full auto fire weapons. Not to mention the lack of "smart" weapons and 3d huds.

As long as it's not all "In your face, hong kong action movie style" like pretty much every FPS is now, that type of FPS should be limited to games like Quake or UnrealT. It saddens me that all these new battlefields and other period shooters have basically turned into that kind of play style. Lame.

Edit: I'm guessing it's just the fact that I'm over 30. Games seem to be developed for the younger generation now. They need all that in your face hyped up action otherwise they get bored since kids can't think for themselves anymore and need everything flashy and in your face. Same reason why we can't have movies like Hunt for the Red October anymore, if we did have a modern remake half the scenes would be played at 2x speed to make them more flashy and when the dallas blew it's tanks, it would have flown 100ft out of the water....ugh

The only ones I was really fond of was Day of Defeat Source and CoD World at War.

Have you tried Red Orchestra / RO2? It's an acquired taste, since it's far more realism-based than typical WW2 FPSs. But the gameplay is solid.

Don't make this about age, man. I'm not old! :D

It does make me think about movies a bit more, now. That's been one of my complaints for a while now. Too fast, too much action and very little plot or character development. Hunt for Red October was an excellent movie.

One game that I played for a very long time (and still occasionally get the urge to play) is Wolfenstein ET. That was a really awesome game. It was totally free, too... but it's been dying out for a long time now. At this point, it's obscure, it's hard to get the patches for it (kind of), and... well it's old. I don't know of anyone that plays it. If only it got released on the Steam platform, it would be quite popular, but of course steam has no incentive to carry entirely free games that they can't monetize on at all. Most F2P games on steam have some sort of cash shop (that Steam probably gets a cut of). Wolfenstein ET had nothing like that. Tons of mods, tons of maps, tons of replayability, but not a single thing you had to pay a dime for.

Ah, I miss that game... it only has one or two active servers at this point. Everything else is mostly bots.

*BUMP*

they are the minds behind Darkest Hour, RO1's most successfull total conversion

try Dirty Bomb, it's literally the next best thing

I want Festung Europa to be good. Seems like it is what RO2 should have been. However, they went from UE3 to Cryengine to UE4 with not much in the way of updates for years. In Country Vietnam is similar, from RO2 mod to standalone UE4 game. And with Rising Storm: Vietnam coming I think TWI's marketing may bury In Country and Festung.

I hope I am wrong and both come out.

Would love if BF5 was a next gen sequel to the classic BF1942 which started it all.

The dog fights with the prop planes was epic.

I'd rather have it stay modern. Add in more vehicles and more detailed vehicles and I'd be happy.

Will need to keep an eye on this. DH (lot of hours in this game) was a favorite until RO2 came out.

I never liked DH much, largely due to the over done suppression. Infected RO2 as well.
