Cherry MX Reds

Cherry MX Blues

Cherry MX Browns

$69.99 with free shipping.

Full 104-key layout. Red backlight, solid keyboard, good reviews. Fn based macro keys. Minimalistic software (that actually works) if you're so inclined. Removable wrist rest.

Only thing that I couldn't find was the USB polling rate. I even emailed the manufacturer and the response I got was that they didn't know.

Very tempting. I did just buy the G710 though. Wonder how it compares to this one. (If they both have cherry reds)

If i've never had a Mech keyboard before, what would be a good type of keyswitch to get into to start with? I currently have a logitech wireless keyboard, and have used many different no-mechanical keyboards over the years. I mostly do gaming on my main PC these days, but occasionally still do some research projects that require some typing once in awhile.

Thanks so much!

I'm a fan of the browns. Great action without the loud clicky clicky from the blues.

However, some are die hard fans of the clicky clicky.

Browns would be your best bet, as blue is generally typing and red is for gaming, brown is the in between. I use reds at home (gaming pc) blues at work and have a spare brown mx keyboard

Having had both blue and brown, I have to say browns are a good place to start. I love my OG Black Widow Ultimate, and it's loud as hell in terms of clicking and clacking, but the mechanical I use at work has browns (don't remember what it is right now... a thermaltake I think...), and it's a shade quieter, which is better for that setting.

Whats with the Left Shift Key? Is it standard size or not? Newegg shows it is, but the FUNC website shows it's not.

Anyone who owns this kb mind commenting on what it's like to clean? I didn't see it in the pix, is a key puller included? I like the clean and simple looks (although a lack of dedicated media keys is a bit of a bummer vs using the F keys), but those switches recessed into the frame could be a pain for those of us who spew slobber and crumbs all about our [Strike=option]dinner table[/s] desk.

There are a couple review videos up. I think it's supposed to come with a key puller. Anyway, I bought it for a friend since he needs a new keyboard.

How does this compare to the good old IBM Model M. Haven't found a newer keyboard that I like better yet.

Model M mention quota per mechanical keyboard thread met.

Seriously, every time.

Get a key tester. I got one for $12 with 6 keys.

Red, Blue, Green, Brown, Clear, black.

I seem to like the blues and Browns the best. Still window shopping but I'll be getting mx Blues when I do pull the trigger.

That's a good question. That has me mildly concerned too.

I think the left shift, or more accurately the oversized enter key and placement of the backslash key, which in some of the pictures on the net is next to the left shift, is actually dependent on the keyboard layout. If you go to Func's website, you can order the keyboard in various international layouts. I'm inclined to say that the US layout has larger left shift and the bar enter key with the backslash above it.

The slightly disconcerting thing was when I was looking at the keyboard early in the morning before I posted this thread, I noticed they were out of stock with a sale price and Newegg didn't have the browns listed at all (they used to). In the afternoon when they showed stock, the browns showed up again, but the item number is completely different from the typical Newegg item number of NE##########, so there is a chance that the browns might be sourced from a different stock and may actually come with the weird left shift/enter key.

Or this all might be a revision thing all together and all the shipping keyboard might be like this now. I don't know. I'll find out on Friday what the they layout on the red I ordered is. I'm hoping it's a more typical US 104 key layout. If not, I'll see exactly how remappable the keys are.

Follow up:

Looking at a few better pictures from some of the reviews (other sites), the keyboards pictures with the smaller left shift and the inverted L enter key are DEFINITELY non-US layout keyboard. This is evident by the two keys next to the enter key being accent and aleph keys. Presuming Newegg sourced browns in US layout and just used stock pictures, they should have the double sized left shift and the single row enter with backslash key above.

Newegg has been known to scrape stock photos off manufacturer websites and use them directly before, even if they were incorrect. The US layout should look like what's represented on the link for the Cherry MX Red version.

Hope that helps!

So I ordered the brown(typing on it now) and almost went ballistic when it arrived. The picture on the box was that goofy keyboard layout. I noticed a little sticker on the side that said "US Layout", opened it up and sure enough it's a normal layout.

Thanks for the update and confirmation!

I got both Func brown and red keyboards. Solid keyboard, very simple and clean design. Brown is easier to type with. Red takes some time to get used to, but it's great for gaming.
