Fallout 4

careful where you wear it, some paranoid mom might think its a bomb and you'll get shot.

it has 3rd person.

I know Fallout and Elder Scrolls games have had it in the past, but it's always been a pretty crappy 3rd person view. More like an after thought. I'm just hoping they paid more attention to it this time and you can play the game in 3rd person mode without feeling like it's an inferior view. I just hope it feels similar to TW3 or even Mad Max.

Anyone know of any good preorder deals? I have to have this game. Who wouldn't buy the newest Fallout game these days? :D

anyone else going to full geek out and take day(s) off work for it? I probably will. Have 3 unaccounted for days.

I'm thinking about it. Depends on where my project is at. I love geeking out like that :D

I would, but historically these games take a few patches to get some of the (sometimes game-breaking) bugs worked out, so not sure if I want to devote too many hours into it before the first patch(es). :p

Gamebryo engine usually equals buggy as hell so you might wish you had gone into work those 3 days :D

Considering I have to use 80 hours of PTO every year, and I haven't used a single hour yet, this is as good an excuse as any to take a week off . The other week is reserved for Christmas, of course.

I'll take a day or three off when it hits. I know the games have a history of bugs but my luck with them running has been OK. Worst I dealt with was a crash bugs after few hours of play. I can deal with that.

Fallout 4 gets released the day before Veterans day so I took Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. 6 whole days off to relax and game like a mad man. Fallout 4, Battlefront,Starcraft, MGS:V. Oh it's going to be a good week!

I am going to hold off a little, see how the game runs before jumping on.

Even though Veteran's day is my birthday, and I have 2 days leave left.

Not really sure what to make of this controller design (or lack of) from the F4 edition XB1

Plain? I think it's freaking beautiful, but I love the colors.

Also none of you noticed the new button in it? Just below the right joystick.

Stiler, I like your attention to detail,
I wouldn't have noticed that in a million years. LOL

I think it's ugly, but I don't plan on playing FPS with a controller. Doesn't really affect me.

Looks lazy AF. Nowhere near the Advanced Warfighter or Halo in terms of details and design. They should've made it look like a rusty vault door or something.

the console exclusive art designs are generally lazy and uninspired...the PS4 Battlefront one is worse in that it's a simple paint job with a Darth Vader logo plastered on it

I can see why they picked that color scheme, but the Vault Tec's suit color scheme just isn't suitable for any hardware, IMO.

I agree that they should have perhaps gone with a rusty post-apocalyptic color scheme instead.

Hopefully it doesn't stutter and shutter like New Vegas did. I ended up getting the 360 version and turning on "smoothmotion" to fake 60fps as I never could fix the PC version.

Apparently the game size is only 28 gigs.

Does this seem a bit too small?
400 hours of gameplay and only 28 gigs?
Hmmm.

This must be uncompressed.

Skyrim is only 12 GB in my Steam folder ... 28 GB should be pretty big ... also, can you use the word "only" and 28GB together :p

28GB isn't "that" big of a game anymore when you look at other AAA titles that range from 18GB - 35GB. They are shooting at the middle of that gap quite well.

Considering I've spent close to 500 hours in Skyrim over the course of 4 years I'm not too worried about game size equating to an enjoyable and immersive experience.

MGS5 is 22GB and yet seems like it has overwhelming content. I don't think I have played many games north of 30GB other than GTA:V and WOW.

I remember when RAGE came out and had a 25GB hard drive requirement and people were going nuts...anything over 20GB is pretty huge for a game...28GB for Fallout 4 sounds fine

Titanfall was huge from what i remember. I think it was due to the uncompressed audio

Large size isn't needed for actual game play ... these games with larger disc space allocations may have improved graphics (larger textures) or improved audio (uncompressed audio) but the actual game code probably comes nowhere near that space so I think we can have decent games even in the 10-15GB ranges (from a play standpoint) ... as we move into more ultrawide and 4K+ support we will see the graphical portions of games consuming larger and larger amounts of space though

I'd be disappointed if it didn't require a lot of storage space, being an open world game. Lots of areas to explore and missions to carry out are what I'm looking for. As long as they don't put in a lot of "fillers" like the subway tunnels in Fallout 3 that all looked the same and really didn't have much of a fear factor.

A game's size is all relative though, no? Legend of Grimrock II for example was barely 1GB, had a fully textured 3D world running in DX11 and held my interest over 100 hours. So 28GB for Fallout 4 isn't particularly meaningful as metrics go. Also remember different developers create games more efficiently than others in terms of how the textures and audio assets are packed and utilized by the engine.

Most of the time when game size comes up, it's people complaining that games are getting too BIG. But then you factor SSD price drops have really accelerated in terms of hitting historical lows - hell, 512GB's have been dipping below $150 lately. So at least storage is keeping up.

I hated that crap, 30GB download and then another 10GB of uncompressing files because of the stupid audio files, it was completely unnecessary.

I finally caved and pre-ordered from greenmangaming with a 30% off coupon. I've been avoiding any games full price/pre ordering for two years now. But after getting Skyrim on release day and putting hundreds of hours into it, then going to Fallout 3 and doing the same I figured it's a safe bet i'd get my money's worth. Shame I can't afford an upgrade to my GTX 670 in the meantime.
