Friday the 13th: The Game Kickstarter

So it's basically a half-life mod that they need $700,000 to produce

The Kickstarter is off to a great start so, with any luck, the developers will end up with enough money to make a really good living before their next Kickstarter campaign asking for more money.
...

They said it needs newds lol. Interesting idea, but yea I am kinda getting tired of the kickstarter game thing.

It could be a fun game but I feel like multiplayer matching is just going to be full of waiting, like how Evolve seemed to be when I try to play anymore. Everyone wants to be the monster.

This actually sounds pretty badass from reading the entire Kickstarter description. I'm not backing it, because fuck that, but I'll definitely play it if it sees the light of day.

I was reading an article on it and they have some of the original writers, directors and even have Kane Hodder who played Jason multiple times doing the mo-cap for Jason as well as working with stuntmen to do all the killing animations.

Anyone remember the Friday the 13th game on NES? Probably not, it sucked.

Why not partner with a publisher?

Great question. We love working with publishers, most of them are great companies to work alongside. Fans of the “Friday the 13th” film series know that when it comes to Jason Voorhees, violence, gore and nudity aren’t just concepts to consider – they’re necessities. Collectively, we wanted to make certain that this game delivers the same kind of fun, brutal scares and creative kills that the franchise is known for and didn’t want to risk having to tell our story with a “T” for Teen rating. We don’t want that. You don’t want that.

We’re not interested in compromising what made the film franchise so popular. We’re interested in building precisely what we, as fans, want. The ultimate Friday the 13th experience. Blood, guts, gore, brutal kills, and more. You want an experience true to the films, and so do we. It’s about creative control and delivering the best game we can. We want to share that control, with you, not a publisher.

Um.... WB owns the rights to Friday the 13th, Jason is in Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat is nowhere near a T rated game. I don't think WB has trouble with M rated games. I don't think they have problems with blood, guts and other forms of mutilation. Go watch every fatality from MK X.

With this game being yet another multiplayer only game, I am not interested. I have very little time to ever do any gaming and sure as hell do not want to use it playing with other people.

IIRC Crystal Lake entertainment owns the trademark/rights, WB had the "movie" rights (To make a movie), gave them to Paramount a few years back for Interstellar.

Hence why Crystal lake entertainment can make the upcoming tv show, give this game the license to use Jason/Friday the 13th, etc.

Mortal Kombat is a known franchise with an M rating.

This is not an established franchise game.

The developer is worried WB is going to look only at sales and force them to stamp a T rating on the game.

To sell more games to a larger audience say people who grew up with the Friday the 13th movies and now have children.

Which is a pretty lucrative demographic now.

I stand corrected. I guess they did only have them licensed and were not the actual owners. And they did give them up (along with South Park) to get the rights to interstellar. That is odd that WB was able to use Jason in MKX then if they didn't own the rights anymore. Must have been some deal they made later on to use him one last time.

Yup, and I wouldn't say it "sucked" sucked, but it was quite a difficult game and the learning curve was sky high. Not exactly the type of game that is aimed at the audience Nintendo was looking at.

'Until Dawn' on PS4 sounds like the spiritual successor to the Friday the 13th game

I'm in at the $10,000 level. Seems likely to produce a better result than the more expensive Star Citizen pledges.

Don't know how much fun this game would be, but I think it would be awesome if on Friday the 13th, and all those that come later, Jason gets his damage doubled.

Ugh. I'm a lifelong fan of Friday the 13th, but I also have a strong stance against Kickstarter. I doubt that I will back it, but the temptation is there...

I backed it. I'm not a huge Jason fan, but am a lifelong horror fan and I like the concept.

Pretty sure women running around with their taters out in order to distract Jason will be the most used game tactic.

Game looks cool but curious how sessler squares the lewd ness with his "progressive" opinion that games are misogynistic?
