Currently using 2 780 classified cards (not overclocked) and was wondering if it would be a good upgrade to a single Strix 980 ti card?

If you're going from a dual fan to a triple fan card, make sure you have enough room and you aren't bumping into wires.

I dunno if at 1440P it's that much of an upgrade, but for 4K certainly I would consider 980 Ti SLi the minimum.

I came from SLI 780 Ti classifieds (1240MHz) and went to a Gigabyte 980 Ti G1 (1515MHz) and see about 90% of the performance that the SLI 780 Ti's had. All at 1080P with maxed out game settings.

Pros -
1. Some games don't play nice with SLI, and a single card works best.
2. Less power use.
3. Quieter.
4. More VRAM for max eye-candy in all games.

Cons -
1. Cost
2. 10% less performance in non-VRAM starved games (for SLI 780 Ti to 980 Ti).

980 ti should use more power than 780 though.

Yep...you'll get around the same performance, double the VRAM, but less than half the power draw and waaaaaay less heat output.

Looking up some benchmarks online, your 780 sli is going to be a bit faster (~10%) than a single 980ti in most games.

So it would be a sidegrade at best, and a slight downgrade at worst. Depending upon how you look at it. You are probably better off sticking with your 780 sli for now until the next generation of cards comes around unless you have a specific need for getting rid of sli.
