just the short of it. bought a 390x XFX. replaced 5950 with it. uninstalled everything and loaded new card and driver. now have black boarders on both sides of the screen. refresh rate is still 60, identifies monitor correctly (hanspree 28"), and all setting seem fine. (it does say the reported refresh is 75, wrong but settings say its at 60) overscan option will not show (allow to be selected) so I can't seem to use that. everything works fine (I can even benchmark the card)

edit more info
windows 7
core i5
16 gb memory
evo SSD

in the past I had an issue with the monitor and had to edit the registry but that was in xp. and the desktop itself is unaffected (the bars just hide the icons)

Any ideas H?

this is on a clean install, not two weeks. you think that 5950 driver (was uninstalled) would leave something behind?

Sadly you can not expect that to work sometimes DDU is needed even tho AMD said that you should not use it.

Be sure to read up on the procedure for DDU it is handy to know what you need to do before you run it.

ok, now it is over scanning. any good monitor deals around?

Well there are a TON of new FreeSync monitors that are hitting the market. They start around $250. As long as you set your games to run within the FreeSync range specified by the monitor manufacturer you should have a tear free experience. The Nixeus 24" is one of the best available as it has a 30Hz - 144Hz FreeSync range and about $280.

I will link a thread that has monitors from South Korea that have FreeSync. There are some smaller ones than the 40". Everyone links the big ones, but they sell others that are much more affordable.

I wonder if there is a firmware update for your current monitor. Have you checked?

well now its working. go figure. I am still going to replace this.

thanks

If you replace it with a FreeSync monitor please post your results. I have an upgrade itch scheduled for 2016. :)
