Mad Max (2015)

paying less for a game is great...what's the big debate?...I paid $25 for Phantom Pain from an [H] user selling his Nvidia code...it's worth full price but getting it cheaper is a great deal...when a game is $60 you need to decide if it's worth it at that price, any legit Nvidia/AMD codes available, wait for a Steam sale or buy from a gray market site...a game is only worth how much you're willing to pay for it...the issue becomes would I be willing to pay $15 for the same game coming from a gray market site like CDkeys?...hell no, but that's me...saving a few bucks is not worth it in that case...I'd rather spend a few bucks more for peace of mind

I'll never understand how people equate a good game with how much they paid for it...a game is good or bad based on the game itself...paying $20 for an average game doesn't make the game better cause you paid less...

No, but it makes the value proposition better. I don't expect as much out of a $20 game, so I can overlook flaws easier and enjoy what is positive. At $60, I am much more likely to start nitpicking. At $20, a game that is fun but doesn't offer good replayability is much more acceptable than if it was $60.

If CDkeys was really doing anything that dubious, wouldn't the site have had some kind of legal action taken on it already?

It's called grey market for a reason. What they're doing is not illegal per-say but it is kind of a legal grey area. Also, they're based out of places where publishers can't touch them.

Normally I would agree with you, but CDkeys has been pretty legit and I've had zero issues with the Mad Max key so far. Seems like the worst thing that would happen is the keys get revoked and they refund your money. Not a huge loss.

This was my first time using CDKeys and it worked perfectly. It was nearly as easy as ordering off Steam itself, but (obviously) much cheaper.
I'll be hard pressed not to look there every time I buy a new game as long as it's legal.

I figured I would fire the game up to give it some more time after the responses I got. I don't know if there was an update, but I can't access the map so it looks like that is it for me. It doesn't pull up via mouse or keyboard. I restarted the game, Steam, and even my PC with and without the controller connected.

I have to give the developers a lot of credit here, don't know why they stated their minimum requirements so high. My computer is laughable by any modern gaming standards (but I'm a cheapskate and it does all I need it to just fine), and I can play this game at 1280x1024 on my ancient Samsung LCD with all high settings except no AA and it runs great with no choppiness or hitching. It's nice in this era of crappy ports that barely work without 10 patches to buy a new AAA title and have it work this nicely on such weak hardware!!!!!!!!!!

Please note I have only 4GB (2 x 2GB) of RAM, with 256MB dedicated to the GPU in BIOS....leaving Windows 7 64-bit with 3840MB. I'm running Micron single rank DDR3 1600 11-11-11-28 overclocked to 1866 10-11-10-30 - so hardly the ideal memory configuration for a Kaveri APU. I paid a whopping 10 bucks for RAM on ebay awhile back - so works for me! :D

I'm very impressed - about two hours into the game and really enjoying it. Driving with keyboard mouse is a little touchy but I've gotten use to it. The fighting in the game reminds me of Mafia III.

i'm about 2 hours into the game and i find it very boring so far...
combat is too simple and why do you have to hold key for everything?
and i fucking hate that collectibles shit all over the map plus why the fuck do you have to get outta car to collect scraps after destroying enemy vehicles?
someone please tell me this shit gets better

So don't play the game if you don't like it?

If you don't like it by now you probably won't. The game is what it is. It doesn't really change much.

For me it is a game to kill a like hour or so. Fun enough to play for a bit but not fun enough to keep my attention for hours. MGSV keeps my attention for awhile but probably more because of the retarded save system

u can buy an upgrade in the stronghold to automatically pickup loot on the ground so no need get out from the car.. give the game some time are u always that quick to judge a game ? 2hours is nothing... u barely scratched the surface on the game yet.

Time to move on to a different game.

Just finished all the wasteland missions and all the story missions.

Not a bad game at all, but could have been a lot better.

I will admit I love just being able to drive a hacked up muscle car around a big open map and beat up on people so any game that lets me do that with some purpose is good in my book. :D

i don't know why you are assuming that i'm still playing this game after what i said
i already stopped playing and my post was to ask folks here if it's worth continuing on

Ive played about three hours.
I'm really trying hard to like the game.
1) the combat is dumb.
2) you can upgrade to have scrap collected and salvaged for you.
3) the most retarded move is that the harpoon won't work in Surround or Eyefinity. You actually have to pause, downgrade to a single monitor, use the harpoon and then go back into 3 screen......I hope that gets fixed, but I'm not holding my breath.

If I hadn't gotten a deal on the price, I'd say it aint worth 59 bucks.

Definitely not. $30 or less? Sure.

It's an ideal "game in between games" or a "come down game" when you come off a game like a Witcher 3 or an MGS Phantom Pain or some such.

I can't say it's worth much past that although all told it may still be a dark horse of the year contender. It certainly doesn't break any new ground or reinvent any wheels and arguably to a fault.

After a while you just stop bothering to collect scrap that isn't directly in your path. I think it's a bit of a flaw to scatter such tiny amounts of scraps over so many locations, it just makes it feel grindy and after a while you just end up relying on captured camps to automatically supply you with scrap.

But yeah, I definitely wouldn't pay full price for it. But that said.... I almost never pay close to full price at launch for single player games anyway and Mad Max is no exception

I have also sort of reduced my playtime in the game. However, still having a ball every time I log on. The reduction is most likely due to 3 games on consoles and me looking to also get back into Destiny. If the latter happens, then neither of these 3 games or Mad Max or Witcher 3 would be completed in this year lol.

Is there a way to walk in this game? Sometimes when I'm moving around the regular run speed is too fast.

Also I heard that the scrap you recovered in the game was nothing to compared to what the upgrades costs. It seems fine to me but I'm only 2-3 hours in. Did they fix that or something recently since launch?

I had the same problem a couple days ago. When I started the game last night, the map was working again.

The scrap you collect off bodies/cars/scavenging locations doesn't increase much as the game progresses, but the cost of upgrades does. To compensate, by later in the game you will have captured camps and they will supply you with scrap regularly (you just get a notification every now and then and your scrap increases).

Also you can capture scrap vehicles which are worth a few hundred scrap (I think 500?) and the scrap boxes in storms are worth 300 each and you can get up to 3 in a single storm, so up to 900 scrap for a storm.

That means after the first few hours collecting scrap from scavenging locations is mostly pointless.

After a while you'll also have upgraded the strongholds so that when you enter them, it automatically refills your ammo, health, fuel and water. Once you've done that there's very little point in stopping to collect anything.

Wow, your insight and wisdom are much appreciated here

He gave a laundry list things he hated (not disliked - hated.) Its kind of clear what the end result is at that point.

It would be like test driving a car and saying "I hate the styling, I hate the interior, the performance is just boring and it only seats two. Should I keep driving it and hope it improves?"

Honestly you either like this game or you don't. I was pretty hooked on the game within the first hour but if you can't stand these types of games then you won't play it long because it's essentially the same gameplay the entire time with only upgrades to your stats and combat mechanics.

I agree with you. Some genres aren't for everyone. I hated every Batman game except for the last one, but I loved Shadows of Mordor and Mad Max. Something about the first Batman games made them preposterous to me that a regular human running around in a suit could move that fast, glide, etc.

But Shadows of Mordor is a dead guy so I'm like woohoo an undead Elf kicking ass! Read enough fantasy books to agree with the fighting style and scope of the game. Mad Max came out when I was in elementary school. By the time I discovered it as a rental around 1985 I was hooked! I have bought that movie on VHS and DVD so many times. I even bought the original Aussie release with the original Australian voices as that was the version that I saw late night on TV as a child and hooked me onto it.

So even games that are in the same genre and are beloved by others appeal to different people due to simple things like the subject matter. Now if Batman was the old school Batman with the POW, CRUNCH, POOF, spam on the screen I would probably play it to death with the exact same fighting style as in the first games.

The only recent Batman movies I can stomach are the Michael Keaton ones. No idea what the others are about. Zero interest in them after watching the masterpieces. We all have different ideas of what is fun. Just enjoy what you love!

....I never realised there was an American dubbed version until now... the stupidity is hurting my head

That is like saying why do I use my sword in Witcher 3 for 200 hours because it is just an increase in stats but the same game over and over.
Or why I shoot guns in a shooter for 10 hours.
Or why I keep fist fighting in a Batman game.

See the point?

I think the point is there's very little progression in Mad Max. I liked it, but it's all very monotonous. Even as you upgrade things, the combat doesn't really develop. Opponents don't get any more challenging or different, environments don't get any more complicated or varied.

There was only 3 combat sequences that slightly mixed things up that lasted a few minutes each. That's a few minutes out of a 30-40 hour game where things actually felt a little bit varied.

Actually I think you missed mine entirely. But yes Batman is essentially the same as Mad Max I'll give you that one.

That is hilarious...I actually just watched Mad Max for the first time not long ago (for some reason I thought Road Warrior was the first one...technically it is the first post-apocalyptic one, though) and I couldn't understand half of what they were saying with the Australian lingo/accents. Also felt like the pacing of that movie was a bit odd but no big deal.

The combat in the Witcher games (all 3) DID get incredibly old. There are only just so many ways to slash/slash dodge using the exact same sequence and cadence.
Ditto with Batman. You either like it or you don't, but it never changes beyond having to occasionally hurdle or cape random foes.
With games like those, you have to hopefully give people other compelling reasons to move forward.

Stupid question but I can't seem to track the missions that are optional. I get no marker and I made the mistake of taking on 2 missions at once. What is this nonsense. Also I can't build the armory in Jeet's territory since I got the mission and quit the game. Seems to be a bug in the game. This kind of nonsense pisses the crap out of me.

I found it weird how Americans don't understand the Australian accents. Actually, Americans seem to be the worst when it comes to understanding different accents :D

Optional missions just come up as a pale blue dot on the map. You can have multiple optional missions running at once, each will have its own (or several) blue dots on the map and if you hover the mouse over them it tells you what it's for.

The armoury mission I think was right near the edge of the map to the east and maybe slightly south of Jeet's stronghold.

I have heard of a bug where if you don't build the armoury in Jeet's stronghold after doing the associated mission and just continue on to the other strongholds, when you come back to Jeet's stronghold later you may not be able to build it.

It seems I only got the mission and now it no longer shows in wasteland missions. I also went to the next stronghold so can't seem to find where to go for Lust for powder mission since it is not listed in my wasteland misssions.
