DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Cool Dondan. I really think the C7 cooler would be the best option for this case!

I have a question that i would like to have sorted before buying this case. Will my graphicscard be able to fit. I have an Asus R9280x card and I'm quite worried that the card might be to high to fit in this case?

The height of the card is listed to 14.5 cm. Mainly because of the heatpipe popping out on top

If you can measure the card from the bottom of the pcie port to the top (including heatpipe) I can give you a 100% answer.

Also, in case it wasn't clear to anyone, when I said the A4 is cooler I just meant that it's more awesome. I was making a play on words rather than a claim of its thermal performance. I think y'all got it but it's hard to tell on the Internet :D

I took it both ways. :p

Who doesn't like FLIR shots?

Appreciate the help, Dondan.

I have now measured the graphics card from the bottom of the pci-e port to the top of the heatpipe and it's 147 mm.

Maybe if you losen the screws of the riser a bit or remove the riserscrews the card should fit otherwise the card is 3mm too high.

I'm far too excited for the C7, I need it in my hands noww
I mean, look at it!

Impatience isn't fun.

Edit:

@Dondan
Stunning, man.

I'm thinking it might be nice to see the A4 on a desk with monitor and kb to give perspective and show how small it is. Need something in the pic to compare it to. IMHO anyway

Completely agree! Perspective will seal the deal for me. Put it next to a nice monitor, keyboard and mouse and let its true size and beauty be shown.

I think a Beer bottle or glass of beer would be a really nice size comparison. Maybe even a little Coke Bottle advertising :p

I think it is not allowed, I asked coka cola and they said it is only possible if it is only art so something not branded is better ;)

The problem with your Coke-can comparison is that the can is placed in the forefront of the picture and as such not giving an accurate depiction of the case's true size.

Please would you photograph it next to a Monitor, or any other configuration where we can see it next to a keyboard, mouse, etc...? I am most definitely buying a A4 as soon as it becomes available for purchase, I have even made a cardboard cutout to compare it to next to my other gear, but a photo would just seal the deal.

Thanks!

Anything that comes in multiple sizes (drinks cans and bottles, monitors, keyboards, etc) is not a particularly helpful comparison. Games consoles work. but only if people actually own the specific console used (though it does allow for 'smaller than an X!' bragging rights).
A CD/DVD/BD case is the closest thing I can think of to a standard-size object that pretty much everyone will own at least one of.

That's actually a rather good idea. Having the case next to a 5.25" DVD drive would really show how small it actually is, because people that buy their own PCs can immediately associate them with the size they have.
And normally, you don't think about how large a 5.25" drive is, but if you see it next to a case like this, it suddenly becomes absolutely massive.

I was thinking the plastic cases discs are distributed in, but a 5.25" drive would work too.

I dunno

I liked the 5.25 drive idea, most people interested in this case probably have one, and I'd wager to say all but a few have at least seen one.

The ruler seems too formal imo.

Fun fact: The volume of a standard 5.25" drive fits in the A4 6,2950981038134871954892495339565 times :D

I'm not keen on the 5.25" drive comparison idea. Haven't seen one of those in years, I wouldn't be able to judge the size from that, seems pretty meaningless comparing it to a SFF case.

I haven't had a dvd-drive in my pc's for ages, plus once there in I forget about them so have no idea size/depth of a 5.25" device apart from the faceplate

Standard coke can is good imo. Or maybe a collection of items :p Coke can, plastic cd-case, 5.25" drive, DAN A4-SFX

Any possibility of fitting the Fury X (the GPU with liquid cooler) in the case?

The liquid cooler is unfortunately a little too thick. I think the maximum you can fit behind the PSU would be a 25mm thick radiator with a 12mm fan.

Those "standard" Coke cans come in different sizes around the world, though, 330ml, 355ml and 375ml. Maybe in some countries even 341ml.
A coke can is a terrible object for size comparison, but I do like the idea of having multiple objects besides it so everyone can choose the object whose size they know best.

Thank you for your ideas but I think I will stay with the current landingpage picture :)

Since nobody is going to do any calculations with this "size comparison", the fact that there are different sizes of coke can is fairly irrelevant, as they are all very similar; within 45ml of each other. Everybody knows how big an "average" coke can is, and the purpose of a size comparison is just so people can get a general feel of how small the case is.

In contrast, I think having a collection of items near the case is a terrible idea. It would just look cluttered when the main focus is the case.

I just want to see how much space its going to free up on my desk. If the selling point is size and space saving, does anyone have a pic showing this sort of thing? Even of the prototype would be great.

I dont mean to whine, but its hard to judge computer size. At the computer store the cases seem different in person than online views. Anyone else have that experience?

OK, I'm off my soapbox now. Thx

I'm actually waiting for someone on the Internet to say that the A4 SFX is in the shape of a tower so it isn't that much smaller than any tower case and so you should buy the 250D because it's a cube and looks small that way.

Take a few sheets of paper and build a model, it's not that hard.

It's the only sure fire way.

Lol, I know what you mean

Its all about marketing., not making my own mockup. I'm a tinkerer too, but I want to show a pic of this great case on a desk next to a monitor with a keyboard, so they can relate to the size, to all my coworkers and friends. It will tell a thousand words and convinces them that it is so very small, great looking and they can still go top end on the guts. They will instantly beg to get it!!

Keep in mind that dondan paid (I assume, based on the thanks on the site) a professional photographer to produce these photos for him. He's not going to just run out with a smartphone and snap a potatoshot of the case on his kitchen table to use on his website.

So there's a cost and a time factor there...the photographer may not be willing to work a small session like that, and at this stage I'd think dondan's pretty busy with getting the regulatory and crowdfunding stuff lined up. I wouldn't mind more detail shots myself, but it's not like the dimensions of the case aren't proudly displayed for anyone's information.

Why is it called A4? Easy method for size comparison:
1. take a random piece of paper lying around
2. Congrats! You now know how small this case is.
Sorry, but it had to be said :D

El, you are right of course. Moneyless development does put a damper on my grand thoughts, lol. Well, when I pony up for one, I'll take some pics and try to do my part to get this going.

I think there is no need of comparison pictures because I have three photos with hardware inside. If you know how big a ITX board is you can estimate how big the case is.

The name is A4 so took a paper out of your printer and imagine 11cm thickness and you have nearly the size. :)

I will stay with this:
