Just got a new G2 (D801 T-mobile version) and I've been trying to figure out what version of Android to stick to. I know that oftentimes, new OS versions work poorly on older hardware (iOS 7 on iPhone4...), so I want to avoid making a stupid update decision now.

Does anyone here know the ideal version of Android for the LG G2. I'm not concerned with "performance enhancements" or any of that crap, the phone is already blazing fast directly out of the box. I want stability, zero issues, and no broken/buggy core features.

The phone I have purchased is on 4.2.2 Jellybean right now. I have read that Lollypop is nothing but trouble on the device, but that Kitkat seems good and provides some improvements. Any consensus here?

Thanks,
Wabbit

I have a coworker and a friend (who's actually a member here) who use the (Verizon) G2 on the latest official Lollipop build with no issues. My coworker barely has any apps on his phone though and keeps it pretty barebones. Seems like any Android phone will get bogged down good at some point if you have a ton of apps/services on it.

Define: "LG G2" There's many different versions out there. The common few in the states are the VS980 (verizon one), LS980 (sprint one) and D800 is the international one that AT&T has.

Having said that, i've got the LS980 and it's been without issues on stock 5.0.2. Though I do plan on sticking CyanogenMod 12.1 on there soon-ish. I had CM11 on it in the past but didn't keep it there due to the outdated radio version I had to run in order to get stable LTE. CM12.1 on the LS980 can use the latest radio firmware now.

There's one thing that i've seen in common with all G2 variants though: the GPS antenna sucks, badly. If I want to use GPS on mine I have to turn off LTE or it just won't see any satellites.

Thanks for the replies folks. The phone is D801 (The T-mobile version).

I'm hesitant to run a custom ROM, because I'm a complete noob at mixing/matching radios and other things. I'm not going to have the slightest fucking clue what to do if I install a ROM and suddenly my wifi stops working. Just want it to work and be reliable/stable.

Probably best to just run the stock 5.0.x upgrade and install the Google Now launcher then. (or something else acceptable, never liked the launcher it came with, doesn't support "ok google")
