The New Super High Resolution PC Screenshot Thread

Well I made the jump to 4k. Don't have much for screens yet, but here's some Elite Dangerous; max settings with Nvida 4xMSAA @ 2x SS.

More? I've managed to build a small Armada since my last post. Not very scenic I understand, but fun nonetheless. The banding is horrible in the pictures (game textures were not designed for 4k), but not noticeable in game. Also, these are down-sized from 15360x8640 (Elite's HD Screen Shots)

And of course, the big boy

those reflections look impossible.

Those reflections are actually pretty easy to set up in an engine, as they are just flat mirror-type reflections that render the entire scene twice: once at the camera's normal location and view, and one with the camera inverted on the axis of reflection, viewing the reflected angle of the main camera. It basically doubles the frame-time if done at full resolution, but mostly the reflected scene is rendered at a discrete resolution like 512*512 or 1024*1024. HalfLife 2 and Skyrim use the same method, but Skyrim REALLY screwed up the application of the reflected texture.

I think this was shot at 1440P using DSR, which scales it to 1080P. I've since learned it plays just as well at 4K with DSR. :D

Bought Ryse: Son Of Rome on Steam Sale. Quite an awesome game, if you like the beat-em-up style of gameplay it offers.

I agree, this thread needs some reviving. Hopefully with Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Division Beta coming in the next couple days, it will see some love.

In the meantime, here's some more 4k shots.

Compared to the screenshots of the two games after (Ryse and Witcher III), WoW is looking incredibly dated. I'm kinda surprised.

It's over 11 years old, and it wasn't exactly a looker when it came out. I'm more surprised that your surprised it looks dated :p

It didn't look horrible when it came out. I haven't seen it in ages though. I remember it looking pretty good for the time. It didn't hold up well. ;)

ok so I was going to post a 4k image of the TW3 but Photobucket sucks and the max res I can post to forums seems to be locked at 1024x768. I have no checkbox for "display image in original size". WTF. Really lame. Didn't notice until I wanted to post a large image.

That sucks, would have liked to see it. Might have better luck with Imgur or Flickr. I use Imageshack, but I've got 40+ pages of images, so I have to pay a subscription.

I'll try one of those, thanks.. this is the smaller version of the image

I find a spot to post the 4k version soon. I have a couple more too.

the game is one of the best looking ones to come along in a while... I spend a lot of time just wandering around looking at stuff.. ;)

Try Google Sites. You just have to create a blank site and upload images to it. Its free and its Google, so no real size limit. Thats what I used to upload my 4K images.

Some fantastic looking shots throughout this thread. I always spend time running around games just taking in the sights, but never take the time to take some good looking screenshots. I have the same problem with using a camera on vacation too.

LOL! You are not alone!

Battlefield 4, max details at 3440x1440.

Rubbish plot, grating characters and pedestrian scripted gameplay.....but at least its purdy.

Ahh good idea. Will do very soon!

A couple more TW3 (the Steam jpg compression is not the best - but oh well). Used imgur.

edit: no mods - no AA, all hairFX off - shadows med, water high, sharpness low, and everything else on or maxed out.
I am hovering between 30 and 60 mostly... basically it's pretty smooth until it rains. My Asus Strix GTX970s are at 1455/3800 which is the max 100% stable for them.
I keep eyeballing eVGA Classified 980ti's but for $1300 and some after tax - seems like a lot - but who knows when Pascal will be a consumer reality. If I'm lucky I can
get $500 (shipped) my cards so it would be a significant cost for that upgrade.

Hey Rev, what monitor are you using?

It's a Samsung 40" JU6700 - which I got a good deal on ($583 shipped) and sort of bought on a whim in December and am really happy with it. I went from 5760x1080 to 3640x2160 and am way happier with a single display now.. I saw the JU6500 (same set without the curve) pop up on ebay for $450. Pretty nice displays for getting into 4k.. but there's some setup involved..

edit: a couple more TW3

Nice. These were not out yet when I bought my Sieki 40". I came from 3 - 30" and don't miss the hassles. The single display is nice, though it requires SLI to run most newer games at highest settings, it's gorgeous to play on so I deal.

How are your frames in TW3 with your setup?

My rig is handling 4k gaming way better than I thought actually.. In big cities in the rain things dip below 30fps here and there but for the most part it's very smooth during the day while out an about questing.. I've been tempted to upgrade some some 980ti's but I'm holding off for now.

honestly, the view from two Titan X cards isn't much different, maybe dips to 45 FPS instead of 30. Save your money for now.

Are you guys running AA or without? Until the last patch I was getting 30-50 fps with the lowest form of MSAA 2X through the Nvidia's Control Panel (with Highest Quality preset). But since 1.12.1 it has dropped about 5 fps on average.

I mostly only use FXAA or TXAA if its available, In older games I can just max out the AA setting, like Sleeping Dogs: With a single card, I can run the "High" AA setting, with SLI I can kick out the "Extreme" setting. In Serious Sam 3, I get dips to the 40s if I enable MSAA. But then again, that may be exacerbated by a low CPU clockspeed, lots of particles and objects on-screen.

Without ANY kind of AA, I can pretty much max out most games, but even at 4K, you want SOME sort of edge smoothing, that's why FXAA is your friend.
