Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

Took me a while, but I think my Shitbucket is full. Lol.

I have weapon mastery on every weapon that has a battlepack. That means all:
Assault Rifles
Carbines
LMG's
DMR's
Shotguns
Sniper Rifles
Pistols

The rest you can get mastery, but no unlocks (e.g. M26 MASS). Fuckin hell I have over 1000 of those stupid 25% XP boosts and can't use them. There seems to be a bug in the game that won't give you the mastery dog tags even though you hit the requisite amount of kills.

There are so many shit guns in this game, it makes me wonder why they put so many in there. There are also quite a few that are dark horses...just a small tweak from being amazing. Recently I found a bunch of the slower carbines work real well with the heavy barrel and angled grip despite the spring patch and its nerf to all the grips. tap tap tap fire is now amazing with the AK5C and AK74U and this setup. Something else must have been tweaked with that last patch, I never had any luck at all using this setup before.

I had over 2500 hours in Tribes Ascend. Now a days I don't play that game. I play a bunch of different games. But 1500 hours is a lot. I may get back into BF3.

^ 1500 hours... hugs are free today bro, you need some human interaction lol
You would be amazed how much of your life is gained back when you stop watching TV like I did. Nielson ratings say Americans watch on average 4-5 hours a day.

The game has been out a year and 10 months...that's around 665 days. That works out to around 2.5 hours a day if I actually played every single day. It's a trivial amount, especially compared to some people I know that play MMO's like WoW. I get plenty of human interaction, especially since I just got engaged. My fiance works days part time and goes to school, I work nights. Days when our schedules conflict, I play. Days when they don't, believe me I don't even login.

The real problem is I don't have any other hobbies. ;)Hobbies cost money, and I was dead broke most of that time due to saving for a car and a ring.

Considering you don't play everyday that 2.5 hours is understated. That's a lot of time! I bought the game when it came out and lost interest after 91 hours. I salute you for playing 1500 plus hours.

Yes. Understated it may be. I stated it to gain some perspective on how much time it really is and that I still have plenty of time for human contact. ;) You gotta remember, I don't watch any TV anymore except on days when my fiance and my schedule's align. So everyday the schedules don't align I have at least 3-4 hours to play. This usually happens almost 5 times a week. Sometimes my fiance and I have scheduling conflicts on my days off and I stay at home and play BF4 for 4-6 hours. I do miss spending more time with her, but finances being what they are I have to work nights and she works and goes to school. I'd love to fill that time with other hobbies but all my other hobbies cost lots of money. :D

Anyways...back to game discussion.
Has everyone re-adjusted to the attachment nerf's from the spring patch? The symthic.com stats were updated, but the accuracy bullet spread charts are misleading. I've found a lot of weird combinations that work really well that did not work before. Tap fire is the way to go now with almost every weapon, where as before you could almost get away with full auto bursts with the right combination.

A couple weird examples I've found...
-Slow firing carbines (under 750rpm, AK5C, AK74U, etc.). Their vertical recoil has changed so much through the patches that you can now get away with angled grips, heavy barrel, and super quick tap fire. I've also found that I can get away with stubby grips and muzzle breaks, a combo that never really worked before on most guns. Somehow the symthic stats show the bullet deviation is even lower than any other combo and the return to base statistic that was so fubar'd from last patch is only slightly higher than running without a grip.
-Slow firing LMG's (M60, LSAT, RPK74, RPK12) are now godly long range tap fire with minimal attachments.

I pretty much stopped using grips on everything except semi-auto shotguns (Ergo/Vertical). The spread decrease changes to the high RPM weapons ruins their at-range performance and adding an Angled/Folding grip to them just makes it worse.

2 bullet burst tap firing has pretty much always been the best for any engagement over 20m especially if you're aiming at the head which only got viable because they increased the headshot modifier. The Spring Patch changes really made the high RPM weapons for close quarters only. But they have to compete with shotguns now which got a hilarious buff. I'm finding that my goto weapons all fire in the 700rpm range so that the spread decrease happens quickly enough to take out targets at medium range. Aug A3 with heavy barrel and no grip is what I'm using now as Assault.

You're totally right about the 600rpm weapons. They're laser beams and often have bullet velocities matching or beating the bolt-action rifles.

People cry about the shotguns after the patch. With good reason ... I think they might be a bit too good now. I'm enjoying getting Master Dog Tags on all the semi-auto ones now though.

patch is out but I can't launch yet bc of chrome. need to try another browser. Nobody commenting on the night map or 60hz fix?

Night map is cool ... it's damn dark. Here's my first round ever of Graveyard - just squeaked out the MVP after joining late (brag).

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/1/638940198774261120/327977445/

Silencer and IRNV are pretty much required but flashlights and flares really mess up the IRNV scope.

Netcode, hit detection, whatever you want to call it is about the same. It's been good for me for a while.

Turn up the brightness on the monitor for an easy helper. Only a single map, can't wait to see more.

I don't know if we will. Lame ass consoles can't handle the other two night maps they have ready. So they are holding them until they can get them working or they might never release them. All bc consoles are weak sauce.

Truth. I remember a DICE dev talking about how they hit a wall and could no longer add anymore of certain things like weapon animations, because they hit a memory limit on the 360 or PS3, and so all platforms had to go without because of EA's hard-on for platform parity.

I think it'll take until BF5 or whatever the next BF title is where the old gen console chains will be off and we see a better Battlefield game. Possibly holiday 2016 and based on DX12/Vulkan according to the Frostbite engine guy.

I have no confidence that Battlefront will scratch that Battlefield itch, it's too casual mode and watered down despite all the derps insisting it's "just a reskin".

FLIR and IRNV aren't necessarily required, but make things easier in many cases.. You can still barely see without them.

Last night a guy came onto our server and was bitching about the FLIR and IRNV being overpowered. I nearly died of laughter. The whole point of the night maps was to slow things down so people would actually use these sights and to give people variety. It does force slightly different tactics. I've noticed I sprint from cover to cover and hide behind that cover for much longer until I can scan 360 and make sure no one is watching.

The FLIR and IRNV are amazing for these maps, but not without severe weaknesses. Use whichever one suits your preference. Their field of view is really narrow and you get tunnel vision like your using a scope on a sniper rifle. If you are anywhere near any of the flags there is still enough ambient light to see without them and fight CQB with regular sites. If you are out in the trees, you won't survive long without them because a sniper with one will get you.

Setups I've found that work:
-Any Gun + IRNV/FLIR + angled iron sights + suppressor. Use the IRNV/FLIR when you are out in the open, switch to angled iron sights for CQB
-Carbine + Red Dot Sight + TDD target detector + suppressor. The TDD will help you spot targets despite the night, and help your teammates. Just don't stay out in the trees too long or a sniper will nail you.
-DMR + IRNV/FLIR + TDD + suppressor. Ultimate stealth hunter. Fire, move. Fire, move. Stay out in the trees if possible. The only guys who will ever find you are camping on the high buildings with their IRNV/FLIR but they can be easily taken out. Combine this setup with a suppressed rapid fire or high powered pistol for close quarters (G18, 93r, Deagle) when you actually have to go into buildings.

Another thing I've noticed, I'm relying on sound a lot more than I did before. So turn up the volume. Everyone will be running suppressors, but many times you will have guys run right by you and not see you. Let them continue on then get the easy kill. ;)

-edit- One last thing. You still need engineers. FFS, engi's, keep your missiles and mines equipped. I've run into rounds where no one was paying attention to the LAV's and they absolutely decimated the other teams with their IRNV. Fortunately they took out the fucking little birds and AA tanks.

60hz servers aren't a thing yet, as far as I know. "Temporarily disabled"(or something) is what it said in the patch notes.

The night map is ok, I don't think it's necessarily better than normal Zavod but it's different at least.

I got to try the night map last night in a partial round of conquest and thought it was pretty cool. Nice change of pace and a good chance to use some different tactics and some fun weapon combos.

Despite the flack EA and DICE get for certain aspects of the game, its nice to see them continue to release free content this far along in the games lifespan.

I am using Chrome and have not had an issue. I know they will disable the extension thingy at some point, but it has been working for me to date.

Can anyone recommend another map like Metro? I need to get my reflex/shooting skills back up and that was my preferred map, but sometimes it's hard to find a server.

Operation Locker
Zavod 311 (and it's night-map variant)
Propaganda

Also try searching for infantry only servers.

very late to the party, just got this...is anyone on the east coast USA interested in teaming up in a squad and using voice comms on one of the better co-operative servers? I'd be up for playing like this once every week or so.

While on the topic of servers, can folks recommend good servers (EST USA) where cooperative, coordinated, strategic play is more the norm, rather than free for alls?

Thanks.

Has anyone experienced crashing after playing for a 10-15 minutes?
Specs in sig. Firefox as browser. Windows 10
Ive updated my drivers(someone pointed out a hotfix for nvidia drivers causing the issue) repaired the game/ compatibility mode no resolve. When I play with my friend is when I seem to be having the issue. I pick the server the only other thing is we are in team speak3.
This morning after updating my video card to the latest driver I was able to play for an hour and a half no issues. Tonight I get on and cant seem to play more than 15 minutes before I get a black screen blinking cursor on the top right followed by a bf4 has stopped responding.

I gave up trying to update video card drivers for this game. Once I found a stable release, I stopped upgrading. Unfortunately, you can't do that everytime. However, I don't play many other games so the tradeoff was worth it.

FWIW, I'm still using Nvidia 344.11 from September last year.

Overheating CPU or GPU?

Overheating CPU or GPU?

That was something that had crossed my mind. I have ac in the house set to 79. O even took my case side off to make sure every thing was getting adequate flow. I'll put on realtemp tonight see what my temps are and report back.

I say that because I had similar problems with my GPU getting hot. Unfortunately I'm not sure I ever actually fixed it other than keeping my case clean and the house temp at 78. I have very few crashes but it happens.

Good lord, AC set to 78?! You must live in the desert for that to be cool. I have mine at 71/72 year round.

Right now, I have it go to 83 during the day(when no one is home) then when I get home at 430 pm o drop it down. $500-$600
Freaking sucks but the joy of living in the desert.

Night Operations is live not sure how long the dlc has been up it's free like 800 meg download haven't tried it.

Phoenix Arizona. My house is 2500 sq foot with a pool if I kept my house at 71 my electric bill would be 1200 a month

I have a 1400 square foot home out here in phoenix and keeping the temp at 80% during the summer costs me about 350 a month.

It has been live for a week already. It came out with the summer patch last Tuesday.
I've been playing Zavod:Graveyard shift for a week now too. Did they add the other planned maps like Shanghai? I was kind of confused when my battlelog app told me it had launched today.

As far as I know they had to hold back the other night maps because the consoles couldn't handle them.

Those Arizona electric bills are crazy. Mine's $40/month for 1200 sqft condo in Vancouver. There's usually 2-3 weeks in the summer where we run the AC. I don't think we've had to turn the heat on in the winter yet in this place.

As for BF4, the dusting on helicopters is annoying in the latest patch but it's otherwise good. I'm looking forward to 60Hz servers to see how that changes things.
