Good morning,

After scouring the internet and failing to find a real answer, I'll try my luck here.

The problem: Unable to enable rapid mode on Samsung Magician 4.6 running Windows 10 with a Samsung EVO 850 1tb ssd.

Possible workaround: Download Samsung Magician 4.4 and it works again, but I can't find a copy of it.

Are there any other solutions yet to this issue that any of you here may have stumbled upon, like a registry hack or otherwise?

Thanks.

No other workarounds I have found. The thing is, I've tried this 3 different times (one on an upgrade from 8.1 to 10, and 2 clean win10 installs) and everytime I install Magician and enable RAPID mode on my 840 EVO, I start getting start menu and task bar corruption.. My start menu no longer comes up, the search/cortana bar no longer shows up. I can still use win+x to open up that menu but if I open anything up using that menu it take a good minute for the window to come up. Every time corruption happens I've tried all the fixes people have offered, I've even tried to do a system restore from a savepoint from before Magician installation and the only thing I can do is clean wipe and install.

I am on my 4th install (3rd clean) of Win10 and I have not installed Magician and no corruption now for the last 3 weeks.

I've researched this using google too since win10 came out and no one else it seems has this problem. Plenty of people are having start/search menu corruption but no correlation to Magician so I'm thinking that it must be some sort of combination of my software and Magician. I'd troubleshoot more but it takes 2 or 3 days for corruption to happen and I don't have the patience.

I suppose we're stuck waiting for either Microsoft, Samsung, or both, to fix whatever the issue is. Hopefully it's something on the Windows side. We know how slow Samsung seems to be with fixing any type of issue when it comes to storage.

Very sorry there is trouble with these. I may end up with one too because they cover formats I need. But it's troubles like this that has me give a first pick to Intel drives even if they are slower in a given category. I hope Samsung fixes this fast - horrible predicament.

Not sure why this would push you to an Intel drive, RAPID is like an extra feature you don't need to use at all if you don't wanna (and something the Intel won't even do either)... It's not essential at all, and frankly speaking I never fully trusted that kinda caching.

At least I never considered it a mayor selling point for the EVOs, basic price/performance ratio is their core selling point. They should still fix it mind you...

Just thought I'd point out that installing the new Samsung Magician 4.7 still does not fix this issue.

Yay Samsung...

Rapid mode is just a big disk cache in your RAM. Any decent OS should be using all spare memory for disk caching anyways.

Rapid mode enabled just fine in Samsung Magician 4.6 with Windows 10 64bit on 500gb Evo 850
