I don't know how smart it is to sue the IRS. You might win your case this year but you'd better be prepared for an audit next year. ;)

Two taxpayers have filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service, alleging that the agency didn’t do enough to protect their personal information from hackers. The plaintiffs, Becky Welborn and Wendy Windrich, are seeking class-action status for the lawsuit.

Whats obma's new government organization that's supposed to tutor companies on security policies?

Cue the ToS I accept or cancel click through that will remove the people's right to form class action lawsuits that you must press I accept in order to file your taxes for 2015.

I know two people who are going to get audited every year for the next 20 years.

Perhaps it's time we untie SSN from Taxes, eligibility, and government benefits.

Maybe we could create a new ID system that is separate using a series of smart chips like on the new credit cards to verify?

Thought about this the other day. The process the IRS used to validate these "hackers" is pretty standard, exactly the same as that used by the credit bureaus to access your credit report.

And just yesterday, the CFPB came out with a report stating that consumers found it difficult to complete said authentication, with the implication the credit bureaus needed to make it easier for said consumers to authenticate to access their report.

So the existing authentication lets hackers in, but not consumers...I'll be the broken record again, identity is broken right now. :( (That being said, I have no issue with passing through that kind of authentication. A lot of people are just dumb, sadly.)

Nah... however taxes will go up next year to pay for lawsuits that occurred :D

its more what happens if the tax payer wins? the IRS pays them out... well we(the citizens) pay the IRS so we are essentially suing ourselves..

more like debt loading to be accurate. aka the IRS s.o.p.

So, you pay to sue, you pay for their defense, then you're paying out your own settlement? At what point do you win?

Going up against the IRS? The only people who win when the IRS are involved are the wealthy and the politically connected.

So yea.... just like everything else.

One thing this does is makes them audit proof. An audit will easily be shown to be punitive actions against them for their lawsuit, which is illegal. Even the IRS knows they can only do so much.
