Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

That sucks man. Is it still under warranty?

No, MB is around 2 years old.

Was only covered for 1 year, so i would have to pay for shipping both ways as well as any service fees ect. doubt it would be worth it.

Just ordered a new one earlier today so hopefully it is here by Thursday.

When/if that happens to me I'd consider it an excuse to make a full system upgrade.
I'm still going strong with my ASUS P6T Deluxe running a 6core overclocked i7 [email protected].

It destroys everything I've thrown at it and with DirectX 12 it looks like I'll get even more performance since it loves extra CPU cores.

No real opinion here...I am not as into this as many of us...I have no issues/complaints/or worries as a backer...but Derek seems to be writing reasonable stuff, or at least written to look quite reasonable at first glance...I have no idea if any of it is true. Good open discussion is good. What do you guys say?

Bullshit waste of time, he's only trolling SC 'cause he got smacked the fuck down by the community. It was later learned that all this is being done 'cause he's literally broke and has to promote his shitty game any way he can.
If you want start a separate thread on the topic, in fact I encourage you to do so. Hopefully with that we'll get rid of all the losers with too much time in their hands that come whining about the game here.

People forgot about Derek Smart (again) until he managed to drag himself into the SC community firing line. He will disappear again soon.

Whether you think his claims are bogus or have merit, it's pretty funny the way he keeps talking about how the initial crowdfunding drive raised $2.1m

EDIT: You know, I wouldn't mind seeing item 1 on his demand list.

Derek smarts game look worse than 10+ year old games.

But I do agree with a lot of things he says. CIG needs to put ou what they originally envisioned without the feature creep. For fucks sake its been at least a year since Arena commander was released and probably 2+ years since the hangar module. They are both bug filled, crappy running messes. At this rate even if the game was released anytime soon it would be another 2+ years before its semi bug free.

CIG is trolling the fuck out of all of us with stupid fucking snow globes, towels and fish tanks yet probably 1/10th the time on actual production. The worst part about it is you all lap it up like some ignorant fucks. Maybe if they spent less time on bullshit like trophies and snow globes I wouldn't fall through the floor of my Retaliator or experience horrible clipping issues in the Avenger. It would take probably 5 minutes to fix the collision mesh on the Retaliator torpedo doors, those stupid snow globes probably took at least 1000x as long

well, i have a 4790K That was at 5ghz with a z87 so for me it was a better move to just get a new z97 which has the same pci-e layout to fit all 3x of my 290's on it lol.

i originally bought the asrock z87 extreme 4 along with the cheapest 2 core cpu for mining with 3x 290's, but once i was done with that and the system paid for itself i sold off the cpu, moved my 16gb ddr3 from my main system over to the intel system and picked up a 4790K

So it ended up being a free gaming system with 3x 290's. And it has gotten a lot of use from both mining and gaming..

pretty much all the money i saved by letting that machine do its mining to recoup its cost, allowed me to put it all into star citizen and basically got an Idris out of it.

Which might be part of the reason i have so much money into SC, because it was money i would of spent on computer hardware, but since i already had the pc components the money i got back from it was just money i was comfortable throwing at SC to help it become the BDSSE.

I mean i could of spent it on an Extreme intel system or something but i just dont currently see the value in that kind of set up right now, and transitioning to ddr4 meh not interested. Wake me up when Intel starts to innovate and we get some real performance increases. The only thing an Extreme system offers me is more PCI-E lanes for my triple 290's, on my z87 and the z97 it is PCI-E 3.0 x8 x4 x4 so 2 cards are on x4 lanes, but in BF4 with mantle they perform flawlessly and scale damn near perfect, so i am not sure i need the extra pci-e lanes to turn it into x8 x8 x8.

If i was still on my first gen bulldozer system and the MB died i would of done a rebuild for sure and switched to intel.

This isn't your and Wildace's personal thread to only talk about the good things coming out of Star Citizen. It's a thread on HardForums to talk about Star Citizen good or bad.

YOU are the one who needs to make a separate thread where you can continue to suck down the unicorn farts emanating from CR's delusional musings about how he is making "his vision". In fact, there is already a place where you can get your Star Citizen freak on without having to tolerate the losers on HardForums spoiling your day, it's over on the official forums at the Star Citizen site. You will fit in just fine over there.

There definitely needs to be some answers and if he did fund his little gold diggers movie with backer money I want his ass strung up.
Did anyone else catch his offhanded comment about how they're moving to new offices AGAIN!! With backer money of course.
I guess the ones they're in now aren't nice enough. Maybe they need more room? But shouldn't they be winding down at this point getting ready to release the game? Not ramping up?
You can't give a man this much money, while worshipping him like a God with no over site and expect anything good to come of it.
Starlancer/Freelancer all over again.
look it up

The Kotaku article was pretty neutral besides the click-bait title, it wasn't flattering, but it wasn't especially damning either. And if you're in the inside track in the slightest it wasn't any new information, some of the helmet stuff came through on reverse the verse for example.

Sounds like a cluster f glad I never bought into it. When I saw he was selling ships before the game was out I had a feeling it was going to be a cluster f, someone thats makes 90mill before a game is out probably doesn't care as much if his game faills as the guy that needs his game to be amazing to make 90mill

Except you are acknowledging a known troll, this forum does not tolerate trolls so any discussion of derek smart or his cry baby attitude at a project he knows nothing about should be ignored.

Dude! I love your insights into SC, for real. And..I reiterate I am a backer and have no worries or concerns. But, is your post a little "thought police" or what?

On the other hand I could be completely wrong here...who decides who cannot even be acknowledged? Does [H] consider this diskhead (Derek guy) a taboo topic?

I don't personally care one way or the other whether or not people talk about him. I will go on record as stating that I think he's an idiot though. :D

I look at it from the perspective that Derek is a competitor of CiG, If CiG pulls off Star Citizen to the scope they envision it would pretty much put Dereks already crappy game in an even worst position than it already is and no revision or patches or overhauls Derek tries to implement or could come up with would ever save his project from just being completely ignored because of SC being so superior.

It is in Dereks best interest to try and insure CIG fails with a massive propaganda push to break up the community or attempt too.

It really comes down to Derek being a self admitted troll, being a direct competitor of CiG, Starting Topics and blog posts about SC to pimp his own game and his background is so bad in gaming that any comments about him being in the industry and knowing what he is talking is just BS spewing from his fingers. Since he has likely never had the budget to do anything meaningful in decades.

CiG's only real fault was with kickstarter and setting an estimated release date for a game which was originally scoped to only cost around 23m to create, the scope has changed since then tho and they have to plan for the future of the project and making sure all the core mechanics are done right, and not rushed out to meet original kickstarter deadlines.

Things got pushed back, but the game will likely be much better because of it, things that were originally supposed to be post launch items like modularity, and procedural tech ect. was pushed to the for front to insure those items were implemented from the start now, so instead of building all the ships on an outdated platform, and then redoing them all after release for the new procedural damage states or to add modularity, they decided to redo the ships they already had done now, then build the new ones on the new tech from the start, in the end it pushes things back like release dates but it also insures a much better experience from the start.

im sorry but Chris Roberts track record speaks for it self

HE HAS NEVER delivered on time or on budget and been fired from a number of his own games

And all of those games have gone on to be legendary each in their own way, either as award winning franchises like Wing Commander, cult following like Strike Commander or one of his unfinished games which still had a devoted following today and probably brought a surprising number of people to this project with the promise of what it could have been if it was finished and with today's technology Freelancer and there were plenty of games in-between and before all done with top notch quality work compared to today's standards. And he even brought his brother, who he had a slight falling out with over finishing Freelancer to this project, who a lot of fans have a lot of respect for (who I might add Derek dip-shit Smart took jabs at for hiring).

I backed Star Citizen way back in October 2012, and even then, before the "feature creep", felt it would take at least 3 years for this game to come to life. This is a very ambitious, complex project. I don't get why people were realistically expecting a two year target for a full game. Based on the recent Gamescom presentation and expected Social and Star Marine modules, along with Arena Commander 2.0, expected by the end of 2015, things are coming along fairly well.

On the flip side, CIG could do a better job of managing expectations. CR has too much of a tendency to state a target date and not caveat it, which creates frustration in the community when the date comes and goes without a clear communication on the status.

I was bothered by the fact that the HUD designer for the spaceship portion was a Hollywood FX designer, rather than a GUI programmer or someone who could design or copy military-designed HUDS but in recent footage, the spaceship HUD looked like it cleaned up OK ( for the most part ).

This has been said before but I really have a hard time understanding why Chris would go with a bunch of fucking noobs like Illfonic for the FPS combat module... it looked clunky in the hangar and still looks clunky:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14265-Meet-Illfonic-The-FPS-Team

Yay... they were the first to ship a Cry Engine 3 game... let's see how they did:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/nexuiz

http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/653173-nexuiz/index.html

I was one of the first people to jerk off to Shania Twain and Katy Perry - yay me ( back when Twain was barely famous and Perry was completely unknown and in a band ). I cornered the hand lotion market that day.

Let's see their developer page on Wiki, empty: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illfonic

80 million dollars and he hires noobs... I mean wtf ?

Edit:

Here's a good one:

"Studio Illfonic has given a little insight into what it's like to be one of the THQ properties that didn't get sold at auction...

US studio Illfonic was founded in 2007 by Brungardt, Raphael Saadiq and Kedhrin Gonzalez. As well as Nexuiz, it's developed Ghetto Golf for XBLA, although the title is yet to see release.

Let's follow the chain of custody:

LOL what?

Pretty sure illfonic was hired when CiG was on a more limited budget, and they had a contract to release the FPS module due to their experience with cryengine.

At some point FPS portion is going to be handled in house as it is just another aspect of the game while the module is like a separate entity for sim pod tho the mechanics carry over, it was smart to contract out the module work, leaving cig to focus on other aspects. Now the module might not have come out as fast as some people would like me included but we dont really know if it was all illfonics fault, or what illfonics budget was to work on that module ect. But at time illfonic was hired to do the module i am sure CiG's choices were pretty limited as they needed and established studio to do the contract work on a tight budget.

As someone who has fully supported this game from the Kickstarter, I too was less than thrilled when illfonic was revealed as a partner. I still see them as nothing but a money pit.

I find it funny, on Illfonic's Around the Verse update sections, that lately there is always a baby sitter there.

Says Ghetto Golf was Unreal Engine 3. I guess Nexuiz was Cryengine?

Second round of invites going out in next 24 hours for people who are active in AC. Won't be me, too busy with work. Patch notes are interesting, mention multiple Cutlass variants, but doesn't mention they were added and nothing about the Herald.

Star Citizen Patch 1.2 – PTU
The Social Module has been released to the PTU, and is now available for player testing. During this initial testing phase, PTU access will be restricted to a small group of players that we will expand on over time. This patch provides access to our first multiplayer planet side environment, ArcCorp’s Area18 landing zone, with all the scenic vistas our team has been hard at work on. This will also include our first iteration of our augmented reality system, emotes and chat system.
Additions:
Gameplay
The main elevator is now active for all pilot hangars and will allow access to our multiplayer ArcCorp module.
For Selfland, Revel & York, and Aeroview hangers, you can find the elevator through the double-doors directly behind your character when spawning into the central bay. Once inside, the elevator to ArcCorp is located on your right.
For VFG Industrial Hanger, you can find the double-doors underneath the platform where your character spawns, across from any ship you currently have in the central bay. Once you’ve passed through the double doors, the elevator to ArcCorp is located on your right.
During this testing phase of the social module and ArcCorp, characters will now appear in one of six random gear loadouts when they spawn into the Hangar. You can only swap between the six loadouts in the Hangar, via the “F6” key.
The available loadouts are Marine Light, Medium, Heavy and Outlaw Light, Medium, Heavy.
Whatever loadout a character is wearing when they travel to ArcCorp will be retained for the rest of that play session.
User Interface
The screenshot keybind has been moved to “Print Screen”. “F12” is now the toggle for the chat interface.
Gameplay
Transition animations for moving between standing, crouch and idle have received some minor improvement for a smoother and more realistic experience.
Jump animations have received some minor improvements for a smoother experience.
Fixes:
Ships
Fixed a collision issue with the Origin M50 Interceptor that allowed players to see into the ship cockpit from the outside and potentially become stuck.
Fixed an issue with the Vanduul Glaive, where the pilot hands would not always connect properly with the ship handles and interior components when entering or exiting the ship.
Fixed an issue with the beds in the Cutlass Black, where your character would teleport outside of the ship when trying to lay down in the starboard bed.
Environment
A number of collision issues that were allowing characters to clip out of the Revel & York hangar have been resolved. A number of collision issues that were allowing characters to clip out of the VFG Industrial Hangar have been resolved.
User Interface
Fixed an issue where graphics in the game options menu would occasionally overlap with each other.
Arena Commander Module:
Fixes:
Gameplay
Fixed an issue in Arena Commander where hosts were not always being removed from the Lobby when they left the match.
Fixed an issue in Arena Commander where the host of a game would sometimes not be able to cancel their search due to matchmaking crashing.
Fixed an issue in Arena Commander where players could be put into a broken lobby if the matchmaking service crashed while they were in a game.
The HUD colors on the Avenger, Gladiator, Hornet (all variants) and Cutlass (all variants) have been updated to be consistent.
Fixed an issue where the countermeasure interface on the Mustang HUD (all variants) would overlap with other UI elements.
Fixed an issue where the Vanduul Glaive designated “Tank” at the end of Tutorial Chapter 6 would sometimes become immortal.
Social Module Additions:
Gameplay
Our first multiplayer planet side environment, the ArcCorp Area 18 Landing Zone, is now available for testing.
During this testing phase where players will have a shared ‘spawn’ location, player collision is disabled on ArcCorp.
The first areas available to explore in ArcCorp include:
ArcCorp Customs area.
Medical Bay.
JobWell, sponsored by the Trade and Development Division of ArcCorp.
G~Loc Bar.
Astro-Armada.
Dumper’s Depot.
Cubby Blast.
Some areas of ArcCorp are not available on the PTU during this initial launch. Some of those intentionally off-limits include:
The Casaba Outlet.
The Medical Bay Emergency Room.
The ArcCorp landing pad.
The elevator to the second floor of Astro-Armada.
The firing range at Cubby Blast.
You can return to your Hangar when you’re done exploring ArcCorp, via the transport elevator in ArcCorp customs that you originally arrived in. You can also leave via the “Return to Hanger” button in the game menu.
Our first set of fully animated emotes are now available for players to use in ArcCorp and the Hangar.
The full list of available emotes and their variations can be viewed in the chat interface, via the “?” button.
Augmented Reality is now available for players to test in ArcCorp. You can access this new functionality via the “F2” key.
Our chat interface has launched and is now available for players to use in both ArcCorp and the Hangar. You can bring up the chat interface via “F12”.
Players can now chat in our first channel (designated Local at the moment) which is shared between the multiplayer ArcCorp and single player Hangar.
Known Issues:
Gameplay
Player collision will sometimes disable during game play within ArcCorp
Players will sometimes appear to T-pose while running upstairs
Player character animations will sometimes desync between clients
User Interface
The chat interface cannot be resized
Many of the buttons in the chat interface are intentionally grayed out while their functionality is receiving additional polish
Chat scroll will stop updating when chat is spammed excessively
Social Module elevator UI will incorrectly display “Connection Failed” instead of a “Server Full” message
Augmented Reality text will sometimes not display other players’ names
Client crash will occur when F12 is spammed excessively to open and close the chat window
There is only one chat channel across all game modes and instances

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/3ihb5v/patch_12_ptu_notes/

There is only one chat channel across all game modes and instances

That should be amusing.

nice to see they got the social module out when they said they would lol.

edit-

New MB installed and a fresh install of windows 10. seems to be working great so far.

I like the feeling of a fresh windows install, and i love how windows 10 still activated hassle free even with the motherboard swap.

So now it is a waiting game to see when i get access to the social module heh.

So much for early backers getting alpha access, restricting actual alpha content is really lame.

You mean with the social module? Right now it's only on the PTU because they're doing a limited rollout to test server load. Anyone who has played in the last few days gets an invite (all of my friends I fly with got theirs tonight). Only accounts that haven't logged in for a while get less of a chance of getting the invite.

The 1.2a PTU is very good.
constant 50+ fps and at some points 60 fps interior locations.
No lag, hitches or hiccups.
Looks beautiful and with lots going on.

staggered roll outs is pretty common, to test incremental server load as well as its better for some to get in rather than no one able to get in from the stress bringng the system to its knees.
