My ratpadz is out again, I went to reorder and their website appears to be broken. So, what's changed in the last several years? any new pads worth the money? I was looking at the steel series qck pad, seems nice as you can roll it up and it isn't rigid like the ratpadz.

Corsair MM200 pads are nice. I recently got the extended version and like it a lot.

EDIT: I found a better cloth pad, today. XTrac Carbonic. It has some kind of teflon weave that provides a really nice glide for my mice. I tried the small pad and just ordered the extended version to replace the Corsair MM200 I mentioned above. :)

I just recently went back to the Ratpadz after a few years with the steelseries HD. I'm using a Razer Deathadder and to be honest, they both work, and I don't have any negatives about either one. Personal preference I guess. I like hard pads not the cloth ones, but I don't like spending a lot of money on them.

I'm still rocking a fUnc pad, 1030 I think... Bought a second one when it seemed like they would disappear and were getting cleared out on Amazon...

Seems func has had a revival tho, they've got more models and sizes than ever. I've always digged the dual surface design with different roughness and the rubber back.

There's some really thin hard pads Office Depot use to sell that were pretty darn good for the money if you like func, Ratz, etc. Dunno if they still carry it...

I really haven't kept up with the latest and greatest either. Never understood why cloth pads made a comeback.

I couldn't get used to the Ratpadz. It felt like moving my mouse on sand paper.

I prefer cloth because I feel more control than with a slick hard pad like the fUnc.

Still rocking my Xtrac Ripper. I too prefer the cloth feel. If only they didnt seem to wear out. I cant complain though mine is going on 5 years old and just now starting to fray.

I like the G440 mouse pad. It has a low friction hard surface and my g700s mouse glides across it effortlessly.

This and the Corsair MM400 (same thing different brand) are the lowest friction mouse surfaces that don't sacrifice tracking accuracy.

They're basically just Teflon sheets and will probably wear down eventually, but I've had mine for about 3 years and it is still fine.

Allsop, that's the brand of the Office Depot one I was alluding to above, couldn't remember it... In addition to standard cloth pads like that one they make these very very thin hard pads that work pretty well if you like a slicker surface.

I remember purchasing one of the Ratpadz XT's around the time they became available. Used it for years and didn't replace it up until about 3 years ago. Since then, I've used the Logitech G220 cloth pad and now more recently using the Logitech G440 hard pad. The cloth pad had excellent tracking and I felt I had more control over my aim with shooter games, but I had a hard time keeping it clean, and washing it made it feel strange. The hard pad I am using now seems to be a good balance between less accuracy than the cloth pad, and ease of keeping it clean.

I really like waterproof cloth pads, like zowie G-TFX, still waiting for mine to ship :(

cant find anyone that sells it. amazon has no listing, newegg doesn't have it, ESEA doesn't have the gtfx (just about all of their vendors on their website).

Not the latest, but I'm still using Razer Goliathus Extended.
It's a very wide mouse pad. You can put your keyboard and mouse on it and still have place on the side if you want more stuff.
It's really beautiful and high quality, I've been using it for over 3 years now. And I even throw it in the wash machine every 3 or so months. Still looks like new :)

Looking for a good mouse pad that does not move. The one currently have keeps sliding and moving and it gets annoying!

Anyone know if Ratpadz are still available for purchase? My XT's rubber feets are stating to come off and would like to see if I can purchase some replacement or just buy a new one if replacement aren't available.

That Zowie G-TFX, but the shipping time just seems like a PITA. It's a shame it's not offered on Amazon. As Zowie is probably small, they're probably trying to increase their margins by selling direct rather than giving Amazon a cut for warehousing and transaction expense.

I'm in here and mentioning this because I need a new mousepad too, and like I say that Zowie seems like it could be the one for me. I used a Ratpadz XT for a while and it was a good surface. But it was a little rough and because of its thickness, it kinda put strain on my wrist (I also don't like those wrists rests as they always get in the way, so that's not a solution for me). It also finally reached a place where it warped 3-dimenionally so I couldn't bend it back into being flat. It also has lost its feet. Still it lasted a good 5 years or so, so it is not without merit.

Now I'm thinking of going back to something that isn't so hard, just because that warping really got to me and the surface thickness was a bit too much. Literally the mouse would move sometimes if I let go depending on where it was placed on the pad. I haven't tried them first hand, but I did look at Steel Series, Dex, QCK+, and 9HD. Logitech G440. And a few Corsair ones.

But you guys seem to go waaaay more in depth than me and my pedestrian, "standard/vanilla" pads. I do want something bigger than "standard". I would say the 9HD size is the minimum (12"x10"). Something hybrid that has a combination of a rigid or semi-rigid textured surface with rubberized bottom (no feet!).

===

tl;dr: Should I just bite the bullet on the Zowie G-TFX? Or is there a better "hybrid" mousepad. That 5 week shipping time seems disastrous!

I can't recommend the Artisan HIEN Hard pad strongly enough. There are various sizes, colors, etc. Surface is wonderful. Pricey but worth it.

New entry worth considering:

XTRAC Carbonic. Soft pad with a Teflon coating. $14 at Newegg.

I saw this guy. Seems like it's a contender, but I'm wondering if someone can tell me how it stacks up with the Zowie G-TFX side by side. Obviously the Carbonic has the option of being a full desktop mat, so it wins easily on size (although I probably wouldn't get that size), but how does it stack up in terms of usage and feel? Undoubtedly however, it wins on price.

Can you post up a link so I know exactly which one you're referring to? I can't find one for "Hard." Amazon shows soft. Artisan's own website also doesn't have a link. Discontinued?

Looks that way. At least, it's out of stock on Artisan's site. (https://www.artisan-jp.com/item_hien_hard_eng.html) I bought it from Amazon like, 2 years ago. As you said, all I'm seeing there now is the Soft, Xsoft, and VE pads. Having never used any of those I can't say if they're good or not, and at the prices they're asking I wouldn't expect anyone to be brave enough to try.

I love the engrish they use to describe these things. Their site is a wonder:

Major brand gaming mouse pads have been already obsolete by the ARTISAN debut.
SAMURAI gaming mouse pad is a generic name for gaming mouse pad of the ARTISAN brand.

My gaming mouse pad
The kind of rubber used for the table tennis racket has 100 or more.
The table-tennis player chooses rubber that is appropriate for own skill and play style. And, the racket is made by using chosen rubber.
PC gamer must choose the gaming mouse pad that suits oneself. It is your best gaming mouse pad.

------------------------------------------------
| Relation between hardness and characteristic |

FOAM
light glide and easy stops. Rigidity feeling. Stability is inferior to HIEN.

HARD
It is near the taste made of the plastic. However, it is not hard made of the plastic.

MID.
It is not soft. However, it is not hard. Light gliding and the stopping are good balances.

SOFT
Soft more than usual cloth pad. It stops in sharp. Stopping with rigidity feeling.

XSOFT
It is considerably soft. This flexibility makes the stop on SHIDEN/SHIDEN-KAI easy.

------------------------------------------------
| HIEN HARD | Standard of the new generation
Amundsen woven fabric. Very stable tracking. Rough surface like pearskin provides very precise reaction to your mouse movements that thick nylon woven surface would not have. Demolishes existing standards and new generation gaming mouse pad.
Hard type is a very good replacement with better control from plastic type mouse pads. Soft and accurate mouse control, different from a plate like plastic and glass type mouse pads. Perform like a plastic type mouse pad. Outstanding stability.

As an aside, I almost just want this for the silly logo: http://www.amazon.com/Glorious-Exte...F4K6/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1447249296&sr=8-9

What's the material of these cutting mats? PVC plastic? That would account for the self-healing properties.

Home Depot man.

Ratzpadzs I have are never completely flat. So it's a losing battle replacing the feet.

That I am unsure of. Mi...My wife's has kind of a vinyl smell to it :D however, I would imagine that it is indeed PVC with a small treatment of some plasticizer.

I think they make great mousepads, even after being thoroughly cut on. Even with all the cuts, my G602 set at 2500dpi doesn't pick up anything erratic.

90% of the time my mousing surface is a Logitech G240 cloth mat. I love it.

^^ Finally tried a cutting mat and like it a lot. I got a Fiskars 18" x 12" mat for $12 at Walmart. Good tracking and control. Not crazy about the cream/off-white color, though. If I find a black or dark blue mat, I'll swap it out.

Good choice! I haven't seen the cream ones before. All the ones I have and have seen are kind of a watery green color

You're right. Color is closer to a very light, almost white-green. I found a clear cutting mat from Dahle on eBay. Ordered one tonight.

Are there any hard mouse pads that are oversize, under-keyboard like the neoprene big mats that you see everywhere? I like the ability to wipe clean a hard surface but don't like the way separate mats force me to shove my keyboard over to the left. In time I'll be going back to a TKL or 60% when I can afford it, but even then the aesthetics of these things are a lot nicer to me.
