Anyone else looking forward to this game? It comes out in a week.

It's a survival horror adventure game where you explore and make choices that have a rippling affect throughout the rest of the game. It's meant to be a throwback to a kind of 80's era slasher flick.

It stars some notable people, like Hayden Panettiere and Rami Maleck (the lead in Mr. Robot, awesome show btw).

Idk. I actually had this game on my to-get list but after seeing that gameplay it just looks like a Heavy Rain-like game with cheesy horror movie cliches. I'll have to wait. MGS 5 is coming anyway.

I initially mistook this for a Quantic Dream title, too. Interactive movies are not my cup of tea. I prefer games that don't hold contempt for actualy gameplay.

Don't see how it's "contempt."

You must have never played adventure games. Which used to be the top selling genre in gaming in the mid 90's.

Gabriel Knight for example. That's pretty much what Heavy Rain/Until Dawn/Gone home, etc are. They just might b elighter on the puzzle element then the older style adventure game , and without all the "pixel hunting" that used to go with it.

I actually love the Quantic Dream games, but the cliche horror movie bullshit is cringey to me. If it was more like true horror without the bullshit i'd be all over it. Love scary stuff.

I didn't like adventure games in their hayday, either ;). I guess my wording here was poor. My impression of Heavy Rain was that they were more interested in making a movie than a video game, and the interactive parts of the video game are there because they had to be.

That's the whole point. Horror movie characters make the worst decisions EVER.

The GEICO horror movie commercial nailed it:

"Why can’t we just get in the running car?!"
"Are you crazy?! Let’s hide behind the chainsaws."

This game actually gives you a chance to go against the cliche, to see what happens when you actually make smart decisions.

At any rate, I think this makes a better party game than a single player game.
During the demo at the Playstation Experience conference, the audience was going nuts screaming out what decisions to make. It was a lot of fun.

Updated the first post with reviews.

It's getting some pretty good scores 9's/8's and 4/5's, along with some lower ones here and there.

Seems if you enjoy horror movies (especially 80's b horror movies) You will likely enjoy the game.

The choices (even small ones) seem to have far reaching consequences with some good twists. Which in turn end up making it a game you can replay making difference choices to see how things play out.

The main flaws seem to be a lot of collectibles and some camera issues (It uses an old school Resident Evil style fixed camera system).

Funnest LAN's I ever had were Left 4 Dead lans. Why? You get 2-3 real gamers, 3-4 non gamers, and all those horror movie cliche's come to life. The run off, fuck these guys loner who dies far ahead all by themselves. The white knight trying to lead the girls who haven't figured out WASD controls. Someone tries to rush the whole team through the map, there's always that annoying person who wants to explore every nook and cranny. The person you leave behind getting mauled, screaming to be saved, while the team lets them be bait.

Horror movie cliches can be fun. :)

So, as a sucker for horror and from all the stuff that i've been reading saying this game is good I went ahead and reserved the game at Redbox. Kind of excited to see where this goes. Will update with some impressions by the end of the weekend.

I plan on buying it when the price is lower. It got a 79 on Metacritic, which is okay.

I have to say after playing a couple hours last night, the thing that is annoying me the most is what annoys me in most horror movies which are the jump scares. Completely unoriginal bullshit that anyone would get scared at... dead silence and then a sudden loud noise with something popping into your face is dumb. Also, the story so far is your typical bullshit you've seen a thousand times when teens get together in the woods... you have the pretty cheerleader character, jock douchebag, geeky kid, average girl, well-rounded girl (sam in this case), the super bitch female, and the 1 black kid who wants everybody to get along.

The dialog is typical of that same thing. The jock and the cheerleader girl are constantly talking about sex and talking innuendo which gets annoying very quickly. However, my curiosity as to the outcomes of the decisions I make is driving me to keep playing. If this was a movie (which it is for the most part) I would have stopped watching already probably b/c it appears to be one big interactive cliche so far. One thing I will 100% attest to is that this game plays almost exactly if not 99% like Heavy Rain and all of Quantic Dream's games. You have the same QTM moments when you have to press a certain button at a certain time, and having to select 1 of 2 responses to people by selecting left or right... it's exactly like Heavy Rain or Beyond: Two Souls. I am quite surprised so far how this game has gotten 4/5 and 8.6/10 reviews. Beyond: Two Souls got way lower reviews than this and I remember being way more involved in that story than this. Perhaps it'll get better b/c i've only played the first 3 chapters but we'll see. I will say though that after watching the Meet the Cast featurette I had forgotten how attractive hayden panettiere is. I remember having a crush on her when Heroes first played, but she still is cute as hell.

One thing that is incredible about this game is the graphics. From the lighting, to the environment, and right down to the character faces is really amazing. I really hope that Capcom takes a look at this game and takes some cues for it b/c as I was walking around the cabin I was constantly thinking to myself that this is what i'd like to see in a Resident Evil 2 Remake now that they're officially remaking it.

So, let me get this straight.

One killer/bad guy the entire game?
So the whole game is just sneaking around avoiding him or what?

So I have an update after an entire weekend with the game. To answer your question about one killer/bad guy I honestly am not sure. I say that b/c there are events happening in different locations at seemingly the same time with different bad guys involved from what I could tell, but I honestly just don't know. Not a whole lot has happened as far as plot. There have been decisions involved regarding certain peoples' deaths and what-not but this quite frankly is not a $60 game. I felt the same way about Heavy Rain. Even though HR was great, it only was 1 playthrough for me and that's it. Until Dawn is keeping me intrigued b/c of the characters. It's like, even if a TV show is mediocre you still want to watch b/c you want to see what happens with the characters. I think i'll likely buy the game once I find it for $15 or less to play through it again so I can make some different decisions but I don't have that need at the moment. I am not sure how far I am, but there seems to still be 6 hours Until Dawn from where I am so I think there's quite a ways to go still.

The only thing that really annoys me about games like this are the quick action prompts. Like, jump over this chasm and then you quickly have to press like Triangle otherwise you lose your balance.

I would say so far that the game is a 7/10, but I haven't finished it yet. I just am hard to judge games that are strictly interactive movies and QTE. So far the story is a mish-mash of horror cliches so nothing new however the characters are interesting enough to leave me wanting to see what happens to them.

In short, I will say that, since most horror ideas have already been done, it's almost impossible to implement new ideas to the drawing board.

This goes for not just the horror genre either.
Originality is something that can't be so easily done anymore.
But if what you're saying is true, it sounds like a Tell Tale Walking Dead type of game, just with better graphics. lol

Just beat it. I was only left with 3 survivors. :(
The last decision at the end of the game can kill multiple characters, so be careful which you choose. I chose the wrong option. :p

Overall very fun game / interactive movie. Some genuinely likeable characters in here. Shame it's so short.

P.S. I'm in love with Sam. Her look, her mannerisms, her voice. Total hottie. :D

Picked this up today for my PS4. Am psyched about it after reading the reviews and comments. I would love to keep survivors alive and really feel excited that there is no reloading a save etc. That shit is going to make me piss my pants. :D.

My body is ready.

Played a bit and having a blast with it. Very well done game. Just finished the prologue plus chapter 1. Might be interesting to change up things in next play through.

Yep that's what makes it great, something you do early on, even if it seems "logical/righit" might come back to bite you in the ass later on in the game.

I never play games like this.... It's like playing one of the shows my wife watches... That being said I am really enjoying it so far... I am to chapter 4.

Edit: I like the mix of humor, sex, and play in this.. Well and shock/horror. :)

I finished the game today with only Sam and Emily left... I could have saved Mike also but panicked at the end and ran rather than hid. I lost a lot of the "cast" in the final two episodes. I might replay those and see how making some different choices effects the outcome. But great game overall.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Just read this while researching Silent Hill: Shattered Memories which came out in 2009:

"Silent Hill: Shattered Memories divides its gameplay between two different settings. The first section is set in a psychotherapist's office and the second in a town called Silent Hill.[3] In the first section, the player interacts with Dr. Michael Kaufmann, a therapist[4] who is a non-player character, from a first-person perspective. The player responds to Kaufmann's questions and completes a psychological test, fills in a questionnaire or colors pictures.[3][5] The player's responses to these tests alters aspects of gameplay in the second setting, including the available areas, the physical appearance and behavior of characters encountered, and the physical appearance of the monsters.[6] Shattered Memories returns to Kaufmann's office periodically throughout the game.[3]"

I think I made a mistake. I allowed myself to read part of a walkthrough and saw the choices that lead to saving a woman (not to spoil). Since then I have had no intention to go back to this game. It has completely turned off my boner for the game since the choices that lead to saving someone are pretty meaningless or let's say quite basic. Since that mystery has been demystified I feel like the game lost its appeal.

I am at chapter 4 so for people who finished that chapter and were able to save the first girl know what I am talking about. I feel betrayed since I felt I was investing in this game. Either way, game is very good and I give it kudos for trying something different. However, after reading what it takes to save a woman I am just turned off. :(

Why would you read a walkthrough for a game like this on your first play through

I played it through the first time on my own just to see what my own ending would be. Then I went back and replayed some chapters to platinum the game. Not really sure how your choice of saving someone can turn you off from a game...most of the choices are fairly well thought out and not all of them have an instant impact which is pretty nifty. Some of the choices you also make aren't exactly what you think either.

So I found a way to save the girl without reloading a save. Now I am better and also continued to chapter 5. Havent touched the walk through so getting back in the game. Game has me again.

Also yes I will be replaying this to get better at saving people :). Also as long as you don't get a status update etc you can fuck around by reloading the game :).

I had a blast with this game. I made choices I would make in real life my first play through. How Emily survived I'll never know. I tried to off her (when not playing as her). Very well done game. I'm going to play again.

Yeah I want to play this one again and make some different choices... but it was for sure really well done. It was the surprise of the fall for me - I thought it might be one of those that I buy and get bored of in like 30 mins but nay nay - I was hooked after 30 mins. :)

Not sure if I will replay since I have found a way to replay the section before it saves my decisions.

I didn't hear of this game before, but after looking at the gameplay, I don't mind adding this to my horror games collection. It seems to have positive critical reviews as well.

I figured that out also. But the story was fun and I'd like to play through taking it a different direction and see how it goes.
