I think most of us enjoyed what George Miller did with Mad Max: Fury Road, but I don’t think anyone would have imagined that his follow up could be a superhero film―and Superman, no less. This news smells like a fanboy’s wish to me, but Collider seems to be insisting that it’s happening.

Scnhepp: George Miller is doing Man of Steel 2. I don’t feel weird about breaking it. Obviously Zack Snyder is doing Justice League one and two, James Wan is doing Aquaman. … I think George Miller’s a perfect choice to do Man of Steel 2. He’s going to bring so much to it.

Listen, this dude has an amazing vision not realized by many if any at all. Who can think of this shit? I mean, bullet farm, Mother's Milk, Imperator Furiosa, Immortan Joe, The Humungus etc. The names alone tells you he has a special gift. I won't even get into the cars, scenes, etc.

He also directed the 4th story in Twilight Zone The Movie where, sadly, the 2 Vietnamese children and Vic Morrow were killed in that accident on set. But if you've seen that segment, his vision was dark and twisted.

I guess Superman at the movies hasn't done well ... ever. But then again, no one I ever knew collected DC comics lol.

I think it's a very smart move to bring this guy on-board. And who knows, maybe in the future we will see George Miller direct The Joker. That .. would be awesome.

@Kelthuron

Yeah, no one want's the campy Superman from the 80's anymore. Forget that crap. And I sure as hell don't want to see a romantic / emo Superman movie.

There aren't a lot of options as far as the world and atmosphere to place Superman in. I am not sure I would call George Miller's vision dark. Seems like the right fit to me.

lets not forget George Miller is the mthrfcking Godfather of Evil Voices .... The Humungus in 81' well before Tim Curry's Darkness voice from Legend in 85. I am sure whatever villain(s) he directs will have an equally 'from the bowls of hell' voice.

Well I don't want a campy Superman film like the 80's either, but I don't really want another dark and gritty Superman. It just doesn't seem fitting to me. There's a good video on YouTube where they brightened up Man of Steel to show how dark they made it. If I had the link I'd share it, but I think they made a good point.

I'll for it. Thanks. As far as the last Superman went, and I can't believe I am saying this ... there was way too much action in that movie. I was in the middle of a war zone for 90 mins haha

A director of his talent should not waste his time with teenager material (you know, grown man wearing tights...),

So I just looked that up. The accident (decapitation by helicopter) was caught on footage from multiple angles. Wow.

As for Superman. I'm really get fatigued with all of the superhero movies.

Thought batman vs superman was the superman sequel?

For some reason they are not billing that as a Superman sequel, but more a Justice League prequel. I know it is splitting hairs, but that is how they are talking about it and that Superman will get a proper standalone sequel in the future.

Great, another unfittingly dark and gritty Superman flick.

I thought Man of Steel was OK. I had one or two issues with it, but overall I thought it was good. Granted it is darker in tone than normal for Superman. The character's original personality is closer to what we are seeing now which is the direction they've gone with the New 52. Superman didn't become the boy scout we normally think of him as until all the comic censorship crap.

I was a huge DC guy growing up. Have a lot of Marvel stuff, too, but my main interest was Superman. I still have hundreds of Superman comics (as part of a shit ton of others!). And I loved every Superman movie, other than Superman Returns (good, but far from great. Spacy was great at being Lex Luthor).

Personal opinion as someone who likes comics and generally most of the modern super hero movies. Superman just doesn't translate into live action film very good. Honestly every single film has been terrible. I have no hope for this.

It was crap, Superman has no will at all, he just does exactally what others tell him to.

I thought Man of Steel was great, the only problem is it wasn't a complete movie and the story dragged with no real ending.

If anything George Miller can make a complete movie from beginning to end and make it interesting!

I had an incredible comic collection when I was a kid. It all started when my mom called me at home telling me to tmeet her at an estate sell. She wanted me to look at a box of comics all from the 40's and 50's but that It was expensive, $50, which in 1985 I think it was, was a lot of money to a Junior in High School. I made $3.35 an hour. There were maybe a few hundred comics. Several Superboy comics from the 40's and 50s and several Superman's as well. The earliest dated Superman was Superman 100. I remember the story very well and the date of the comic, 1955. #100 he took a class of students in a metal and glass bubble under the sea. Something like that. One of these days I will share what I had in my collection which is all gone now.

I think the character is just too boring to write a good story for, if he was half as strong or had some other weakness than kryptonite like only being as strong as he is in sunlight for example. Then it would be more interesting, this character as it is has just a perma godmode combined with a boring personality. And then the name is not very inspiring, it's a product of a century ago and it shows.

i liked man of steel, like the dark tones.but georg miller doing superman? he don't like cgi don't he? so how is superman meant to fly? by throwing henry cavili out of an airplane?

........might be worth watching

Lots could be done and still follow the comics. They should really consider the self banishment story line from the late 80s. He just killed Zod, and the guilt should eat at him for the first 20 min of the movie, then when he starts having walking nightmares he realizes he is too dangerous and leaves earth. Warworld picks him up, and go from there. He comes to terms with killing zod and brings back the kyrptonian artifact: (aka: eradicator) to earth (which sets up the 3rd movie)

Now does any director have the guts to do a superman movie NOT on earth?

The godmode in an inevitable consequence of escalation. Most of the stories requires the hero to 'find a little more' to defeat their opponent. And to move past that enemy, that becomes their new level. In turn, the enemy to become relevant again also must find a way to be more powerful. The consequence is that all heroes, not just comicbook superheroes, rachet up with every few stories. Superman being near the top of the DC universe gets ratcheted up by everyone below him in order to maintain the pecking order.

Superman's problem today isn't that he was from a century ago, its that he was meant for children to early teens. They are trying to make him something appealing to adults while capitalizing on the legacy name recognition and material.

The problem with the man of steel is that they tried to do that by trying to copy the tone of latest Batman series. OTOH there was obvious interest for it to be like Smallville. Made for a crappy cocktaill they tried to bury under special effects.

I don't think anyone could make a good Superman movie at this point.
