Noob home network question about bandwidth

If I have a 25 Mbps connection from comcast, and am using a doc sys 3.0 cable modem, is my Linksys WRT45G ver. 6 router bottle necking my bandwidth to wired devices?

I run my PC and my Playstation 3 wired from this router, and I just want to make sure the router isn't restricting my bandwidth from the cable modem to my devices.

I mainly game and browse on my PC, so that doesn't take much. However, I sometimes stream netflix on my PS3 while I'm gaming online and I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of my internet connection.

Could someone please let me know if this older router is limiting my network bandwidth, and if so, could anyone offer some "value" routers that I could upgrade to?

It should be just fine. Nothing to worry about. If you ever come across some extra money, I would recommend upgrading your router just because the WRT54G is old as hell.

I remember when using my WRT54G (don't remember which ver) that it was bottlenecking my 100mbps connection, each switch port would only max out at around 28-33 mbps. So it might not be yet for you, but it's very close. Also my WRT54G only had like 8MB ram, not very ideal these days with alot of clients doing alot of things.

You can run the tests yourself, run a speed test going through the router's switch and then connect directly to the modem and see what the speed difference is if any.

As far as recommendations, well I upgraded to an TP-LINK Archer AC1750 C7. It doesn't have to work very hard though, as I have disabled the routing/NAT and just have it acting as a glorified AP + switch, but it has worked out flawlessly at full 100 mbit ISP speeds (and it better do atleast that, they are gigabit ports)

Check out small net builder here, they have very nice charts and are very informative.

Upgrade, given the rather low upload you'll benefit from having working QoS not to mention much faster network overall (cable, wireless and WAN). The TL-WDR3600 is a great value router and is about 59$, runs OpenWRT and works great overall.

compression is better these days. Your setup is fine, I would not worry about it.
