Fallout 4

They're okay, and not a minor upgrade over NV. Look at the screen shots. Night and day difference, but still behind other modern games.

Agreed, but disagree on "behind modern games". Some of the environments look freaking amazing in the FO4 preview footage.

Graphics mods are easier than gameplay mods. Look at Skyrim.
I'd much rather Beth focus on making a kickass game and then let the modders fix their graphics.

The flaw with that logic is that the graphics designers and texture artists won't make the gameplay any better. They're just reallocated to other projects if they finish working on FO4.

I hope finally we will be able to change the height/weight bodytype of our character. And not every NPC will be a different head slapped on to the exact same body.

There will also be 12 companions available in the game and each is a romantic prospect no matter the player’s gender. Only one companion can be used at a time. Dogmeat, Codsworth, Preston Garvey, and Piper are some of the companions.

Am I the only one here that got excited about romantic prospects with Dogmeat?

Since I am not sure if they want an Adult Rating instead of "M" I wouldn't expect all companions romance to be equal ... It will be interesting to see how they approach the romances ... I liked the ones in Baldur's Gate 2 but you had to really work at them and there was a point where you had to fish or cut bait and commit to just one ... I did like that they resulted in side quests of their own ... hopefully if they went to the trouble of including them in FO4 they will do something meaningful with them

I didn't play any of the expansions for Fallout 3, so I hope im not waaaaay behind on storyline stuff.

I know I’m the minority but I prefer the level cap.

With mods, level caps are easily removed anyway, so its basically mute.

Fallout 4 is breaking series tradition by omitting a level cap, developer Bethesda has revealed...furthermore, you'll be able to keep exploring after wrapping up the main campaign...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-08-06-fallout-4-wont-have-a-level-cap

Although generally I am in favor of no caps I hope they work out the balance issues ... FO3 was fairly well balanced for the cap and one advantage of a cap is it forces you to make character decisions (with no cap you often end up with every skill eventually so you aren't really faced with hard choices on what to select, just when) ... if they abandon the cap they will need strong post end game content (like the crafting elements) and a really detailed skill tree that still forces you to make choices of which skills to select ... they will also need scalable encounters that work for levels 10 and 80

Good points.

Actually I found FO3 was fairly poorly balanced, at least if you know what you were doing.

For the most part none of the NPCs in FO3 scaled (as far as I am aware), so you could go around doing the DLC's for the overpowered gear (Operation anchorage, doable at any level, gave Power Armor and Stealth Armor. Pitt also gave you the most powerful silenced weapon which lets you one shot any organic non-Enclave NPCs in stealth mode, made easy with the Stealth armor and there is the Alien Disintegrator from Mothership Zeta for everything else), and it's possible, as well as quite easy, to get perfect character with legitimate methods (Almost perfect with all 7 SPECIAL bobbleheads there after, skill books and bobbleheads to knock all skills to 100), although granted, this requires Broken Steel.

NV didn't allow for completely perfect characters (at best it only allows perfect character roles), no matter what you did in the game or any/all of its DLCs. At max level, there were still NPCs that were a threat to you (Marked men and Irradiated Deathclaws for example) even if you had best weapons and armor.

Yeah, by the time I reached 30 I had all skills at 100 and nearly all stats at 10 with the Almost Perfect perk and equipment/items. I could steamroll the game at that point on Very Hard, and I didn't need to plan out my leveling much at all. New Vegas was a lot better balanced than FO3 in that respect. The game was still a challenge by the time you reached the level cap, and the wrong perk selection could really hold you back. I would have much preferred that they didn't increase the level cap with BoS in FO3.

I only hope it supports over 60Hz so i can use my 144Hz monitor to its full capacity.

Knowing the creation engine I doubt it :/ All Bethesda games based on it have been capped at 60hz to prevent any weird physics and time sync issues.

Thought Havok took care of physics? and by now it would have been updated to handle that better.

It is better for the game as a whole be balanced around there not being a cap, rather than needing mods to remove a cap, as well as rebalance the game around it.

now im not saying the game will be balanced around it, but it is likely they will atleast consider it for future content or extended play.

It's New England they have old ships there at port for tourists and historians etc etc. Go to just about any port city in any country in the world with a European colonial background and you'll find them there.

Yeah but nothing like that is around here. The closest would be USS Massachussets at Battleship Cove but thats a post dreadnought ship whereas the one in the art is pre dreadnought. The only 2 ships from that are the Miska in Japan and thr Cruiser Olympia in philly

To reward our most loyal fans, this time we’ll be offering a Season Pass that will get you all of the Fallout 4 DLC we ever do for just $30. Since we’re still hard at work on the game, we don’t know what the actual DLC will be yet, but it will start coming early next year.

Strange times we live in. At least they waited to announce Fallout 4 itself until after they knew what it would actually be. Waiting for the announcement from Bethesda in a few years time that they are opening preorders for loyal fans. They don't know what the game is going to be yet, but you'll get all of it for just $60. Special gift for the most loyal of fans: give us your money without being told what you will be getting for it. Prove your loyalty.

In fairness ... other than their first attempt with Horse Armor in Oblivion they have produced excellent quality DLC and given the prices of the full set of Skyrim DLC the $30 season pass is a bargain ... however, DLC isn't everyone's cup of tea and the Fallout Facebook page is having a nice battle over this right now :)

True, I guess it's just their idea of "loyal fans" as being people willing to open their wallets without having any idea what they're getting in return is a little much to me. They could have at least given us a teaser of what the first DLC might be while asking us to pony up for the rest. Instead we get nothing at all but a blog author who is clearly excited to be collecting $30.

Given the quality of their past DLC I will likely buy it but not until after launch ... since I ordered the PIPBoy SE from Amazon I will wait until I have the game up and running in Steam and then buy the season pass ... since Amazon doesn't charge the user until the ship date I haven't prepaid for anything so I am content to wait and make sure the DLC pass can be linked to my copy ... their blog indicates there will be no DLC until early next year (which given Bethesda that probably means Feb-Apr) so I figure there is time to get through the launch first

I think it will be well worth it if the Fallout 3 DLC is the baseline. If it ends up mostly just adding content for the crafting and/or base-building system I will be extremely upset.

My thoughts exactly.

We are in a weird time where you either pony up the cash up front - full faith - or you wait until well after the release when we know that the price of the games/DLC plummet. The real suckers are the ones that buy on release day or immediately after.

This really challenges the idea of a game's value/worth, and how we see our own purchasing power.

It's just an announcement of their plans. I don't think you can't actually buy this yet. I'm sure once they get closer the will have more solid info. Even if its "we have plans to do 3 expansions and 30 horse armors" that is good enough for me. I trust the company enough that they will deliver.

at least the Season Pass will give players all the DLC...most Passes just give you 3 DLC...the Fallout games are guaranteed to have some great DLC but most likely it'll have some not so great ones as well...I think I'll stick with the base game and buy any good DLC separately

There'll probably be 5 DLC's in keeping with tradition, so season pass is a no brainer. Any true fan will want to play them all, rather than OCD-analyzing whether or not the SP should be purchased based on the opinions of others that already played, because so-and-so thought such-and-such DLC of the group wasn't 10/10 and therefore OMG you're stuck with a season pass now. It's Fallout motherfucking 4, not Ubisomething.

From the price of the season pass I'm guessing it'll be modeled more after the Skyrim model of 2 dlc priced at $20 each. If they were going with 5 $10 dlc it would've been $50 value for the season pass as opposed to the $40 value they are talking about now.

Kind of disappointing, but probably worth it. I never bought any of the Skyrim dlc because it was double the price of Fallout dlc and I felt that I had enough Skyrim content in the base game.

Fallout is a different beast though, I'm going to want all the content I can get for it.

Yeah, I dunno. If you thought all the DLC for FO3 and New Vegas was worth purchasing, we definitely weren't playing the same game. NV had a bunch of shit DLC for adding weapons that wasn't worth of fraction of its cost and FO3 had Mothership Zeta that just took a huge steamy shit all over the lore and belonged as some stupid Wacky Wasteland easter egg in NV. Not to mention Bethesda's initial dip into DLC with their horse armor and the inane micropayments scheme in Fallout Shelter. There's nothing about any of their recent titles that would make me want to buy a bunch of DLC sight unseen. I've owned every Bethesda RPG they've ever made, but if being willing to pay up front for unknown DLC is how they define my loyalty then they can go fuck themselves.

And nobody is forcing you to buy it ... I have never understood people's opposition to product features they don't want when they are optional ... Preorders hurt no one since they are optional and usually targeted at people who are day 1 buyers anyway ... CEs/SEs rarely add features that change the balance of the game (FarCry excepted) ... Season passes are just a convenient way to prepurchase the upgrades (like buying a season pass on iTunes or Hulu while a show is in progress) ... I would rather have access to a service I have no interest in buying than have no access at all
