Monitor set up for someone who's bedridden?

Hi, I have an interesting challenge that maybe you guys can help me with. A close friend has recently become bedridden, I prefer not to go into the details. Good news is that he's willing and able to continue light working as he keeps his mind active. The challenge is setting up his desktop environment around his bed with the amount of screens he's used to.

I see two options: 3 1080P monitors (current setup), or 1 4K screen (this was in his future plan).

The 4K is preferred due to the lack of bezels and slightly larger size. But with the ergonomic challenges of him being confined to a bed, the smaller monitors might suit the situation better.

Any ideas on how I can set this up? I'm thinking of making a larger version of a laptop desk that goes right on his bed, that his legs can fit under. We could put a 4k monitor on that. But -- stability?

Alternatively if that's too risky, we could VESA mount a monitor or 2 onto an adjacent surface on one side of the bed. He is able to rotate his upper body, but of course less rotation is preferable.

Thanks for any suggestions

I'd go with a 34" 21:9 or a 4k on a swing arm with keyboard/mouse tray

Oculus? outside of that.. I also would go 21:9 instead of a bunch of monitors.

If you come up with some 3d designs and some proof I may be able to find some machine time if you want to make a custom monitor mount. ;)

hey thanks for the offer, I'm in Thailand so it probably wouldn't be too economical to ship though

These look pretty neat. http://www.ergoquest.com/overbed-workstations.html

Their zero gravity workstations also have some better multiple monitor designs. Probably less expensive to build something 100% custom to his situation.

How are the mice secured on the tilted pads on those? A captive cord seems like it'd be annoying since if the slack was sized to stop just short of hitting the wrist rest you couldn't reach the bottom left/right corners and anywhere other than the bottommost center position the angle would require holding the mouse in place to keep it from sliding back down. I can't think of any other non-crazy way to do it though.

Large 4k TV on an appropriate VESA wall or ceiling mount imo.

How far away would he be sitting from it? I have a 40" 4k monitor, and at more than 5ft away I think the text would be too small to read. Scaling up the desktop defeats the purpose of having the added screen real estate of 4k.

I would definitely try to go for a single 4K display in this situation... Multiple monitors just makes things more complicated when it comes to mounting.

As for mounting I am at a loss. Perhaps you can find some sort of swing-out wall mount that would get the display close enough to him?

A 55" - 65" 4k TV is the way to go. Combine that with a wireless keyboard & mouse and an adjustable bed and you have my bedroom setup :)

Those keyboards could get tiring to work on. Though I have seen attachments for desks to put your elbow in.
Voice dictation might be something for OP to consider.
