Mass Effect: Andromeda

I'm really excited for this, but was sort of upset that the trilogy isn't coming to next gen. At least nothing official yet. :(

I'm stoked! While I couldn't get into the original so much, 2 & 3 have been a blast for me, so I am definitely waiting for a new entry.

Easily one of my favorite gaming experiences. I didn't like the way 3 ended, but it was a great run. I am excited, but we are talking Holiday 2016 at the earliest, and most all games get pushed back these days.

Looks cool, I really need to get around to playing the earlier ones but I might just say screw it and start with this one

Looking forward to it. Mass Effect 3 is one of the only games that I've preordered.

As for this one, I think it's going to be cool. Sounds like it's set long after the events of Mass Effect 3, so it will be cool to see how the repercussions of that game's ending affects the galaxy now. I wonder if your individual ending decision from ME3 will affect ME:A at all or if there will be a 'canon' ending selected.

I fail to see why people keep bringing this up... I know one person said that this game will be pointless unless the repercussions of the previous three games are taken into account and I understand the argument, but to say this would be any less great without the influence from the previous three games is ridiculous.

I am honestly most excited about being able to drive the new and improved Mako. The part I loved about the first game so much was the planet exploration and the Mako exploration.

We don't even know if Andromeda is a sequel in the chronology, yet. It could be a story that happened parallel to the events of Shepard's saga or even prior. That a ship finding itself in another galaxy would be affected by the war in the Milky Way is a stretch, though. I would actually prefer that the player would start with a completely blank slate, in this case.

I would write it as humanities failsafe plan, regardless of what happens with the reapers, small group heads to Andromeda to ensure the survival of the species.

Boom clean slate, new characters, new worlds, etc and no pesky Shepard/Reaper conflicts.

I loved the first, didn't really like 2/3. I think the problem is mainly I liked the RPG aspect of the first. The 2nd two went more FPS.

Although they are fun games, idk. We will see what this game is actually about. Chances are I will buy, but maybe not on launch and wait for a massive discount.

I'm fairly upset that it's not. There are a lot of rough edges that could be cleaned up with DX11 capable hardware. You can tell this was designed for 360 at a fixed 1280x720. It becomes painfully obvious when running it even at 1600x900, much less 1920x1080.

And it's a great opportunity to fix some story inconsistencies or outright blunders (make an actual ending and prologue for 3 that makes hard work and a high EMS pay off, more character interactions and settings, etc. in addition to better lighting and textures) and fix some of the (many, many) broken cutscene animations, making for a much better series. I'd bite, despite the Origin spyware.

Same here. The ending of 3 left a very bitter taste in my mouth. High 7k-low 8k EMS should have meant something more than 3100. You know, like actually earning a happy ending...

I'd bet on Nimisys' conclusion - after the failure of the mission on Thessia, the asari councilor mentions making plans for continuation of civilization - and an ark ship containing all the major races (humans, asari, turian, krogan, salarian, quarian - the latter being especially important considering with current circa 2180s FTL tech it would take hundreds of years to reach our neighbor galaxy, and living on ships is something the quarians have already done for nearly 300 years. Their expertise in keeping a large population alive aboard a ship would be invaluable) being sent to Andromeda would be a way to do that. That way SUPER MAC and team can completely sidestep the clusterfuck ending of 3. Only way a direct continuation would work is if destroy (or maybe control, which I doubt considering destroying the reapers was the goal for the whole trilogy, and that it's rumored most picked destroy - including myself) was the canon ending. Imagine the shitstorm from all the people who picked the Reaper!Shep or Space Magic endings believing their path to be the "one true conclusion." The only solution I see is them sidestepping it entirely, which, is a cop-out at best - or having destroy be it.

I only realized that they announced the name for this game already.

But 2016 Holiday? I was really hoping for a Q1 release as was the case with ME2, and ME3. They could do ME2, and ME3, in 2 years, but they need 4.5 for ME4? Or did they just take a 2 year holiday sitting on their hands?

I'm really disappointed by this. I'm already getting critical on my MASS EFFECT dosage. I haven't played trough any of the three for over 2 years.

I finished ME1 6 times, ME2 10 times, and ME3 2 times. Plus a bunch of interrupted play-troughs.(3-5-1) But I need to finish ME3 once more at least because I only experienced the Citadel DLC without Wrex. And since I'm a stupid completionist this means starting a new character in ME1.

No game should EVER be rushed out. When you rush, you get stuff like the ending of ME3, DA2 and such.

ME3 was awesome especially after doing the texture mods but it pissed me off since every time I played Miranda kept dieing. Then I read the only way to make her live is to import your "miranda romanced" character from ME2, which I previously played and did but never saved after all this time.

Miranda was the brunette in the white/black leotard, right? I never romanced her (stayed faithful to Liara), and I could've sworn she survived the ME3 story events.

I'm thinking it's almost time for a replay of that series!

Yes

ME3's ending is bad writing, it has nothing to do with being rushed. The game technically was flawless, with no sign of "rushing".

Taking too long to finish a game is not a good idea either, since by the time it's out it will look dated. Like Stalker. When they first started showing it off everyone was amazed, by the time it was released I didn't even care. Hell I already didn't care when the alpha was leaked.

With a 2016 Q1 release they already would've had over 3 years to finish the game. 50% more than it took to finish ME2 or ME3.

And to annoy you further I liked DA2, as it was. All things considered it was a better game than DA3. Yes it blatantly re-used the same maps over and over again, but so did ME1.

Why is this topic in the console section anyway?
