Acer XR341CKA 21:9 QHD G-Sync IPS Monitor

At this point, Acer has no idea what they are talking about.

I asked via Twitter yesterday if they had an updated ETA for the g-sync XR341 Predator. Here is what the rep just replied to me!!!

So yeah, some reps are still telling me this is a 144hz screen. Who knows, maybe it is. But I doubt it. I think its 100hz and they just dont know what they are talking about anymore

I think it is still a 144hz monitor but gsync will turn off above 100+.

They won't have pushed 144hz out of that panel. The panel cannot support it and 3440 x 1440 at 144hz isn't viable on current displayport standards. I'm guessing 75hz max in normal use like the XR341CK but with ability to reach up to 100hz max when using Gsync. And that's as a function of the Gsync module so it really remains to be seen how that's handled. Also a good chance pixel response times will behave differently when using Gsync which could lead to overshoot problems if they're being pushed too much in order to reach the 100hz

Come on guys, the person who responded is obviously thinking of the Z35 which is the one with the same VA panel that's in the BenQ XR3501 but with Gsync. The naming shit is ridiculous with Acer - it was called X35 when they first unveiled that monitor so no wonder there's confusion.

This is why 100hz on the Gsync XR341CKA is still not confirmed in my opinion because you're just getting answers from some social media lackey who is getting his/her info from who knows how far down the grapevine.

Except TFTCentral who had their info direct from Acer properly. And not just from some poor support team who don't know what they're on about

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/34.htm#acer_x34_100hz

All that says is "Acer confirmed for us." They could just be talking about the Twitter reply.

edit: Note that I'm not trying to argue it won't be a 100hz display. I'm just saying we don't have anything solid yet IMO.

I asked them and they told me it came direct from the Acer product manager :) tweet them and I'm sure they will confirm

Related, Samsung also has a 34" 3440x1440@100 Hz panel in production according to TFTcentral.

It does not necessarily mean a new monitor is coming directly from Samsung though, just that they are producing those panels, possibly for other companies to build a monitor from.

100 Hz combined with VA would be very interesting...

Time to market though. Q4? Q1 2016. At somepoint you have to jump in.

Having said that, I'd more confident in buying samsung oem display than ACER.

Several scandinavian vendors that are usually trustworthy have this listed now with the earliest date being 2015-08-30 and the latest 12th of september.

It is listed as 75hz.

Lol all this going back n fourth about the refresh rate is driving me nuts. I just wish it was October already so we can all finally know the answer.

The absolute worst monitor I ever owned was a Samsung. Just because they're making the panel doesn't mean they know how to design a functional DisplayPort interface.

I loved my Samsung, but it was a shame that I had to run HDMI for the 120hz goodness. I'll be receiving my acer tomorrow since I have AMD atm. If the freesync experience turns out nice, the gsync version would probably be a winner!

I am trying to update my PC knowledge
Planning a new build since around 2003

I've heard of Acer X34, Acer X35, Acer XR341CKA, Acer XR341CK, and Acer Predator

What is the difference between these?

Right now, I'm understanding it as this:
X35 is a cheaper version of X34 so strike that
Acer X34 = XR341CKA & XR341CK
Predator = idk
XR341CK = FreeSync
XR341CKA = G-Sync

I'm going with a GTX Titan X GPU

What monitor is the right choice for me. I'm a little confused.

I can help you out (someone correct me if Im wrong).

X35: I'd rule it out right away. Its 1080p widescreen, i.e. its 2560 x 1080. All the other monitors are 3440 x 1440. There is already an LG 34" 2560 x 1080 (with free sync) out there and the reviews weren't that good. I'd stay away from 2560 x 1080. Not sure of the X35's refresh rate as I don't care, I would not buy a 1080p monitor in this day of age.

The XR341CK is already available for purchase (several users here and on TFT forums already have them.) Its a great gaming monitor IF you have a high end AMD card to enjoy the freesync feature. You dont want this one since you are going to use a Titan X. You need to wait for the:

XR341CKA and Predator are the SAME monitor. Acer just changed the name from the original XR341CK to "X 34 Predator" to make it easier for people. It's 3440 x 1440 w/ g-sync. It's big selling point over the existing and already available LG 34 uc97p (which use the exact same panel) is Aver has managed to tack on the g-sync module and eek out refresh rates greater than 60hz.

The rumors are it's either 75hz or 100hz, no one is 100% yet. The rumors suggest it will be 100hz as long as you are g-sync capable, and 75 hz if you are not. We should know in a month or two. This is the monitor I would get if I were you.

I'm gaming with 2 x Titan Xs in SLI on the 34" LG and I love it. I am sure I (and you) would really love the extra refresh rate + g-sync capability on this Acer.

The Norwegians are listing it available on Aug 22:
https://www.komplett.dk/acer-34-predator-curved-led-g-sync-x34/851201#

The Sweedes are saying Aug 30:
http://www.inet.se/produkt/2205428/...-sync-21-9-format-och-curved-ips-panel#/specs

But I think October is more likely (hope Im wrong)

there's only 3 models:

1) The Acer Predator X35 (also sometimes simply referred to as the Acer X35) - that's a 35" ultra-wide model but there hasn't been much official information released about it yet, certainly nothing direct from Acer. It is expected to offer 2560 x 1080 resolution, 144Hz refresh rate and have an AU Optronics AMVA panel. basically very similar to the BenQ XR3501 which has recently been released. the BenQ model doesnt have G-sync or FreeSync but it's unclear what the Acer model will offer. expect it's a fair way off given lack of official info yet

2) Acer Predator XR341CK - this is the 34" 3440 x 1440 model with freesync and an LG.Display IPS panel, already available and tested at a few places including TFTCentral. That has a refresh rate of 75Hz max. see the review for more info

3) Acer Predator X34 (previously known as the XR341CKA but scrapped in favour of the simpler name). This is coming soon and will be very similar to the XR341CK above. 34" ultrawide with 3440 x 1440 with IPS panel, but this time with G-sync support. it's expected to offer refresh rate up to 100Hz, probably only when using G-sync specifically but yet to be confirmed. also rumoured to have ULMB support whereas the freeSync model has no blur reduction mode at all. TFTCentral have been told it's expected to be available in the UK early October at the moment: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/34.htm#acer_x34_100hz

Is the 980 card good enough to push the frame rates for the g-sync version (whatever they might be)?

You likely won't be getting anything close to 100 Hz in recent games with settings maxed out.

Even a single 980 Ti will not be enough, SLI would be recommended. 3440x1440 @ 100 Hz is pretty close to the demands of 4K res. Of course Gsync will make the drops much more tolerable, so I'm sure most would be fine with a single 980 Ti.

Dicking around w/ my acer freesync I got 30min ago and i'm impressed, I found that I had to turn on some extra eye candy to kill my framerate in order to utilize freesync and avoid tearing for Battlefield: Hardline (running a 290x). For my Nvidia fellows... it'll be worth the wait :)

What makes you say a 980 ti wont be enough?

I game on the LG 34" 3440 x 1440 with TWO (yes 2) Titan Xs, just one of which is faster than a 980 Ti...

And if I turn OFF SLI, in some titles I dont even get 60 FPS anymore (Witcher 3 comes to mind...)

getting less than 60 FPS is not ideal but G-sync will make it enjoyable so fear not

Well, the point of this monitor really isn't to get less than 60 fps and hope g-sync makes it feel better.... The point of this thing is to get 100 FPS !!

not really. the point of it is to get UP TO 100fps, because g-sync starts acting as v-sync once the fps gets beyond the refresh rate of the screen. so 100fps AND below, g-sync is going to make the experience much more enjoyable.

i personally don't see a difference between 80 and 100fps.

my SWIFT is forced to 120Hz refresh all the time and my games are capped at 90fps through MSI afterburner. i'd rather have my 980ti run more cool and more silent.

Just remember that you don't HAVE to play at maxed settings all the time. In fact I've found that in a lot of games there's almost no noticeable difference between "high" and "ultra" yet the performance boost gained from lowering the settings is massive. As long as you're not obsessed about completely maxing out every single game you play then really a 980 Ti or even 980 will do just fine paired with this monitor. If you have something like a GTX 460 I would say you need to upgrade though lol.

Also, keep in mind that people will generally keep a display for a lot longer than other components, esp the GPU.

I've had my dell 3008wfp since it was released but can't even begin to recall how many GPU's i've been through.

And when you do upgrade the GPU you'll be that much close to maximizing the display benefits for your games.

I was actually really pleased when I had to turn up my settings in order to have my frames stay in freesync range. There was immense tearing when I had my low settings to stay competitve initially. I also set the frame cap at 75 for my 290x and I'm loving my acer. I've been through 4 100hz+ displays over 4 years and the freesync version of this display is truly impressive. The gsync will be beastly I'm sure of it!

That's good to hear. I am truly looking forward to picking one of these up.

This is the one I've been waiting for, but man that price point is gonna be a hard bullet to bite.

True, but this display will last you a very long time. I personally don't plan on upgrading from this until a large 32+ inch 4k 120hz ips gsync becomes available and who knows how long that's going to take.
