MSI Z170 under $150 on amazon.com

They're finally starting to show up and just two hours to go to the formal launch in Germany. Not a badly priced board... a bit high but I'm sure that they will adjust pricing a bit as we go on through the next few days.

Here are the first from Gigabyte and Asus too:

Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI

ASUS-Z170-A

Also not shockingly overpriced. Still I'll bet that you'll be able to shave at least $20 off each in the next few days.

I'm just so relieved that Skylake doesn't seem to be a Broadwell-type vapor launch. In North America, anyway...

Also, the DDR4 seems to have actually dropped in price:

32GB for CDN$169

Considering that works out to about 37 cents US that's a real good price! (JK, it's about US$127) ;)

Now to find the CPU.

Excellent choice. That's the one I'm going for as well (99% certain at this point). I'm going to wait until I see 6700K and compare pricing across newegg.ca, ncix.ca, and tigerdirect.ca but I'm likely pulling the trigger later today.

price seems surprisingly ok. let's hope gigabyte is finally on par when it comes to fan control profiles. compared to asus and msi they were still stuck in the 90s with the z97 boards.

Why does that Asus have a VGA port on it?
I take that back. Why do all of those boards have VGA on them?

Do you guys think the processors will be available for purchase today? Waiting to go to sleep to see if they pop up.

I can't find them anywhere but we'll see maybe things will change later today

the cyberpower desktops with the i5-6600k are listed as "in stock". Not a chance I'd do that but just FYI

I'm more likely to bite on the ASUS as well (previous experience with ASUS motherboards AND that it is sold and fulfilled DIRECTLY by Amazon - two-day shipping AT WORST - and that's from either the Bluegrass State OR Carlisle, PA).

I'm waiting until later to purchase the CPU - as neither i5-6600 in the socket is available at any sensible price from anybody, and I haven't looked at 16GB DDR4 RAM pairs in terms of price yet.

Lower end motherboards like the Z170-A are offered in emerging markets like China where people are still running archaic hardware. It's pretty much a requirement if you want to sell in China. I've had more than one manufacturer tell me this. Super high end boards and legacy free designs don't do as well over there.

Ask Raja from ASUS. I give them shit about VGA ports and PCI slots every time I see new boards with that stuff.

I am hearing August 14th for a full release of the CPU's

Most major etailers who are actually showing a date (rather than out of stock, preorder, etc.) agree with that date. Let's pray that Intel doesn't pull a 5775C vapor launch on us in North America again!

I haven't found anyone who is shipping the 6700K and I've been looking for hours. Is that 6600 actually shipping?

Three words - old-school CRTs. D-sub ports on motherboards have remained present even with Z9x; let along Z8x or earlier. (Also, some FP non-IT displays still support D-sub - only two of the FPTVs, in fact, LACK such ports.)

Both are likely on hold; Newegg and Amazon are reporting on-sale dates of the 14th of this month for the 6600K.

Is it worth me upgrading, to Skylake mobo and i7-6700 CPU, from what I am currently running in my sig ? Been on this current setup for several years, and looking to do a fresh install of Windows 10 in the next month or so.

i like me some PCI slots, means i can leech more life out of my X-FI :D

I am in the exact same boat hahaha!

Are there any downsides to using an old PCI X-Fi on newer boards? I feel like it might just be better to use the onboard nowadays?

The main legacy port I like to have is PS/2. I've got some keyboards that have that and I also have an MX1000 mouse that doesn't play well on USB (I guess I missed the recall)

I had one of the original MX1000's that didn't even work worth a shit with PS/2 ports.

I can't complain. Logitech gave me a free MX revolution and let me keep my MX 1000. One of the scroll buttons has since died, but I loved the ergonomics on that mouse. COmbined with Uber Options, it was damn near perfect for most things (note I don't do FPS...and suck sufficiently at them that a bad mouse won't matter).

I think the original MX1000 was one of the best feeling and best looking mice they've ever produced. I always experienced horrible lag with them. I tried three different ones, including later hardware revisions and never could get a decent experience out of them. It always saddened me because I really did like those.

Most of the gaming I did with it was EQ, and whatever lag it had was more than madeup by the buttons that I could assign (and on a per game/app basis at that).

I really wish they'd go back and revisit that design with modern hardware. Seems like every new flagship mouse has worse ergonomics than the last :(

For now, I mostly use my revolution

So if skylake is going to drop here in another 10 days before broadwell which appears to have been abandoned by Intel?
At this point I don't see the reason to release broadwell at all.

Looks like "finally available" might be a bit of a misnomer. I can't find it anywhere in NA.

Buy me a G602 and I'll give you my MX Revolution. I still have an MX1000 sitting around too. ;)
