He initiated contact, but he has decent Heat so I figured he was legit. It wasn't an extraordinary offer or anything.

PM went as follows

Sent him 3 or 4 message since then, all very cordial until the most recent where I told him I would be posting here if he didn't respond.

Paid PP F&F, so no real shot at getting money back.

Maybe he was in a car accident.

In all seriousness, I've heard people claim that they have been able to get refunded even with gift payments. No harm in talking to PayPal to see what they can do. I got burned on a $17 Chipotle giftcard in the past, so now if the seller asks for a gift payment, unless it is someone I trust, I will still send a credit card payment but add enough to cover the fee. The extra 2.9% is always worth the peace of mind.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that something happened - i.e. Aliens!

Paypal f&f/gift. You can most likely get away with it once if you tell them it was an accident. Did you use a credit card?

I'm 6 days in on a situation just like that.... not sure what to do, dudes got perfect heat but damn, 6 days?

edit: just to clarify, I see this guys had issues with more than one, I was talking about someone else, just wanted to make that clear, I was just saying I get where you're coming from

edit 2: my dude came through, all is well, hope you guys get the same end result as i did

I also bought some ram from him for $100.

No response, no package.

PayPal claim being filed this Saturday!

I hope the guy is ok. I rather be scammed then some guy dead or something.

If you do a credit card chargeback through Paypal they will most likely close your account. At least that is what I've read a few times on the internet. Not that it might not be worth it depending on the amount you lost but just a FYI. You could potentially open another account or use your spouses account though.

It just dawned on my today I never got the ram I bought in late June.. Then saw the guy hadn't been on since July 10th.. See 2 new negative heat's and find that someone else was kind enough to start a thread about him already.. So yeah.. demize got me for a few bucks too.

I'm relatively new here, although I did post years ago under a forgotten email, but these posts seem too common lately. It makes me nervous when buying on these forums.. and heatware seems to make very little difference.

I just want to buy in confidence.

The whole getting your cash back in Paypal doesn't make it sit any easier either. Usually people buy something because they need it.. they rarely have the luxury of waiting 3 weeks for some guy to not respond to get their cash back.

I have dealt with many a HF seller before, and the ones with good heat ratings... are good sellers.

Not saying I would ever NOT be burned but I think these are just isolated incidences.

Agreed--that has been my experience also.
