Best Gaming / Office chair?

Ugh, Herman Miller Aeron Chairs.. my work place is filled with them. And they aren't bad but I don't think they are worth the price at all. Maybe 1/3 to half it's price. Also got like 10 broken, with around I think 120 in the work place.

And not all of them are used by fat people.

that's what I'm using -- 270 dollars -- had it about 2 years or so. Works great for me, my main thing is I have to have something I can kick back and rest my head on (Without having to use 5 pillows) and this works well.

One thing that sucks, is the way I usually sit is either with my left or right leg tucked back under my other leg, such that the sides fo my feet are rubbing on the very front part of the leather chair. On this chair the leather is worn through and starting to get annoying on each side. I've emailed the company and have heard no response.

Was in an Ikea this week and also looked at the Markus chair. For the price it seemed pretty nice, never had a mesh back chair, I seem to generally prefer full thick/leather chairs.

My problem is in the store when testing any chairs out they all feel pretty damn nice at the time, it's only after using it for 5 or 6 hours straight do you get a feel for it being awesome or crap.

I just ordered my Steelcase Leap from them about 30 minutes ago - they have a 30 day return policy with NO restock fee on the steelcase. They even pay return shipping. (This is only on steelcase)

They were extremely helpful in answering all my questions when I called up. Looking forward to trying out my new leap.

I got this last year at about $30.00 less than it is being listed now. This chair is very adjustable. Not only does it have the normal multi adjustments, the entire back slide up and down to get the support right where you want it. What I really like is how adjustable the arms are. They go up and down, forward and back, and you can change how wide the spread is between the two. The seat cushion is big, for larger people. The seat cushion is thick but I would say it is firm not soft.
I work from home and game in the evenings. I am in this chair for more than 8 hours a day. So far it is holding up well. I do like the Aeron chairs a bit more but at this price range it's hard to beat.

Well if a "couple hundred" is your budget then the Leap is out. I have one and it is great, but they are more like $600-1200 depending on options and where you get them from. Very worth it though.

I found a gently used 2012 Leap v2 for $400. Is that a good price?

Get the Duorest chair if your on a budget and if you can afford it, get the executive version. If you care about measurements so you get proper back and lumbar support, go to their official website and get the seat that fits your height etc. I got this one and it's the best chair I've owned.

Necro!

Oh well...I've also been hoping to get a really comfy office chair I can also lean back in because of lower back problems, I just don't think I could ever spend the $1,000 price tag some of them are asking for TBH. I'll be checking out some of these other options for sure though.

Unfortunately there isn't a lot of places where I'm at (Pittsburgh)

Where at in the 'Burgh?

The 250-300 chair at Costco is good. Has latest me 3yrs so far and shows no signs of slow down. I used to burn through $100 Officemax special chairs cleared down from $300 like nothing.

I'm supprised no one has mentioned www.needforseatusa.com . My friend and I just one " He Loves his" and well it will take some time for me to get used to it as I've had my old chair for 13yrs.

So far they have great customer service, I got the chair and set it up. The arms seemed too short for me and my new desk. The Arms are 13in in height, so I called them up to get an RMA and they sent me their new caster and roller wheels for free the same day. Now its respectable for me. I just gotta get used to it now. Worth a look.

I was checking those out, seem like a nifty idea. Definitely not quite as pricey as most of the higher end ergo chairs. Are there any real differences between the different models other than style (and other than the XL ones being for large people?)

I use the bungie chair from Container Store, very comfortable chair! It's $199 but well worth it

Cool! How does that feel on bare skin? I avoid leather because my ass sticks to it and my HM chair leaves an impression like sleeping on a tennis racket.

As far as I can tell, just a larger chair for the bigger ass:D

I'm really not a huge fan of leather, especially for long gaming sessions, I like mesh that breaths, yet strangely enough every time I wanna buy a new gaming chair some one hears about it and gets me one for christmas...usually leather :-(

I can also tell you despite how it looks the IKEA chair is really uncomfortable. You may feel OK sitting in it at first, but your butt begins to fall asleep and it doesn't have good lumbar support, something you should look into if you don't stand while gaming. I'm also a fan of a head rest, after a day of gaming I lower the chair and just kick back and turn on some tunes, it nice to have a rest. I love those old British chairs with sort of the wings around the head area, if I could ever find a nice office chair with those I've be in heaven.

I got the IKEA chair you posted but in fabric. Bad ass chair. Way comfy for the price. Mesh back is the way to roll.
IKEA Markus in green fabric

Not really a fan of mesh-back chairs myself. Been using my wife's mesh-back chair the past couple years now since she doesn't use her office desk all that often. I just can't get that comfy in it, though it's not a tall-back one either.

Which ones did you two end up going for?

I got the DXRacer

This is what they sent me for free as well.

Herman miller embody. It was worth every penny. Even if your posture isn't perfect it is comfortable. For as much as I sit in my chair it was definitely worth it.

Plus I got mine for 400ish less than retail.

:D:D:D Decided to go for the Thruster:

THRUSTER-2.jpg

A few weeks ago my office chair broke and the budget was tight so I couldn't afford a real chair and decided to try the dxracer drifter. What a mistake, it's horrendous.

It's very cheaply made with plastic seams leaking and untrimmed, threads loose all over, the arm rests wobble side to side, and those plastic rests on the feet constantly pop off. It didn't come assembled and I haven't assembled a chair since the early 90's so I don't know if they are all this lame or just dxracers. They included an allen wrench with a phillips end when nothing on the chair uses phillips, and the wrench is too long so you constantly have to remove it and re-insert because it runs into other parts of the chair. If it was half an inch shorter, it would have spun properly. They also put the bolts into the chair before shipping instead of in the bag of parts. This obviously increased the cost of the chair and amount of work in assembly, just stupid. I could go on and on but I don't care enough. Don't get this chair, get a real chair.

I ended up getting a DX Racer for my new office chair...leather. I like it, but as I mentioned, not a fan of leather.

They are decent chairs under the $400-500 range. But a good ergonomic chair will go a long way. They are also very much an eyesore as well.

Want to let you know that Steelcase leap v2 is what I have. It is not overly comfortable, but it keeps you in the correct position to stay in position for a long time.

Also - the plastic back on it feels cheap to me. I paid ~$450 for it, and if someone were paying $900 I'd return it... it does not have $900 worth of quality in it by any means.

I wonder if the Herman Miller Embody feels like a real quality chair- super solid, etc... but at $1200? Even discounted it's still $800. The embody needs to be ~$500, feel like a tank, and I'd be all over it.

IKEA Markus in green fabric

The Markus is garbage. I've had one for ~7 years before I finally got the Steelcase leap. The leap doesn't WOW me to death, but that said, Markus is poo poo.

The lumbar support fell off of the chair inside of the mesh area, the seating goes flat and gives you a metal base for your ass, and the non adjustable arms are a tough pill to swallow. It does look nice. Other than that I've had some pretty crappy days sitting in that sucker. Avoid if you sit in it. Get it if you look at it.

There are more ergo options in the price range.. and although the Markus looks more expensive, I can assure you it is not.

Madison Seating?

Edit: Just orderd the Leap V2 from that site (Open Box). Lets see how comfortable it is compared to my aging Zody Task chair.

FACE OFF!! lol.

They've got some nasty reviews online.. Madison that is. I ordered from them. My chair looked fine other than slightly used. I still can't get over how flexy and cheap plasticy the chair back feels when I'm moving or flexing it with my hand. Please someone tell me this is an ergo-design feature and not some cheaper low end less rigid plastic that is attached to an otherwise great chair.

What chair?

Steelcase Leap V2. Egros are good and plenty.. Build quality is acceptable/good but there's nothing that strikes me as incredibly well made.

The upper back on it feels cheap and flexy especially up towards the top. Totally missing that positive feel.

Ah ok. I have used one previously but not extensively and I thought they were really well made. Not flashy or anything but a great no fuss chair. Though I didn't spend much time in one.

Oh I agree with you 90% of it is very sturdy and well made. I am probably 'nit picking' on it for not being super sturdy on the upper back. However.. you pay $400+ for a chair, you should be able to expect the world from it.. no?
