Crossover 44K 40" 4k - PWM free - 144Hz@1080p

I just this monitor last week. Super fast shipping and no dead pixels from what i can see. Also there is zero input lag that I can notice. Love the screen size. Would Highly recomend it.
 
In less than 5 years we will have 40" oled for 700.00 . Too bad this doesnt come with gsync them id be imterested . Until then LG and korea will milk the consumer with inferior technology by offering minute upgrades to LED technology. I got a vizio 4k 50" for 400 bucks and until something real good comes out like OLED i will just stick with a new gsync 144hz ips ulmb monitor ... For a computer anyway.

2016 will be a good year for oled with 4k coming out and within 3-4 years i can see these sets being affordable,
This crossover monitor will either have dead line of pixels or power supply issues by then.. Be sure to buy up on square trade boys
 
So, wait. Is this thing confirmed to do 1080p @ 144hz correctly, no input lag and PWM, or no?

It has NO PWM. I cannot detect any mouse lag at all at any res, just takes longer to get to the edge of the screen :). I'm pretty sure it wont do 144 at 1080p. I haven't tried to do any overclocking. Really I have no idea how. it doesn't bother me.

P.S.

I used a Direct TV remote and was able to find the code within a few clicks. So there's that.

So, the jury is still mostly out on the 404K doing 60+Hz at lower resolutions. There have been no user-tests to confirm yay or nay on that front, as it is a new model. One Amazon review said a definitive 'no' but the user did not mention whether they were using the old model 44K or the new 404K.

The 44K (old model) will ACCEPT a 144hz input, but it will drop frames to output a 60hz signal at the panel, which makes it mostly useless over a standard 60hz 4k screen.

If anyone HAS a new 404K to test, please do. I'm greatly interested in seeing if this is the 'dream monitor' that we have all been waiting for: 60hz 4K, 144hz 1080p.
 
The guys over at overclock.net are going crazy for this monitor in the same way guys are with the Samsung JU/JS series TV's.

It's actually a great deal on a PWM free display and is expected to drop even more.

Uhh Did you not see my posts? It does 60hz at any res. I just posted it doing 60 at 1080p. It will not do 120 or 144. Although I havnt tested it and feel no need to, Its doing fine at 60hz right now. And yes I have the new 404k

Yeah, the main question is 'does it overclock?'. Many other monitors will do greater than advertised refresh-speeds if the signal is forced, however the 44K showed 120/144hz as default inputs, but dropped frames. I'm guessing the 404K no longer shows them as inputs, which is good as the monitor may not be able to physically refresh at those speeds.

When people want to know weather it will do 120/144hz at 1080p, they (or at least I) include overclocking via 3rd party software and registry hacks in that possibility, though. I'm not asking anyone to OC their monitor just for us: but if you want to try, keep us in the loop.

You can't hardly find any fully functioning good CRTs anymore. Its pretty much game over for them. And even the best ones have max of about 22 inches.

At lower resolutions a faster refresh rate may be possible than at higher resolution.
Faster refresh rate means lower latency and smoother motion, important for fast paced games. Sometimes it's better for game play to have info faster than at higher resolution.

Lower resolutions also offer faster performance from a video card, although it it also possible the GPU could render at lower resolution and scale up.

If the lower resolution is an an integer divisor, the scaling will be much cleaner too.

Not only that, but CRTs have their own drawbacks. Why manufacturers can't make an LCD that is almost as good as a CRT is beyond me.

If this monitor supported 120 or 144Hz I would finally upgrade my six year old L246WP.
 
Just got mine yesterday, really liking it so far. Has a couple dead pixels on the bottom right, only saw them when I was looking for them from 6" away. 4k content obviously looks amazing, 1440p also look really great scaled by the monitor. Hooked up the xbone and played some Halo, looks awesome. Huge upgrade in pq from my Acer 32" 1440p (stay away from that one). Definitely less input lag, and no ghosting or flickering that I can see.
 
Hey! So I just order a 404K today, ebay seller had a two day sale for $499 and the price got the better of me!! ... :eek:

Hope this will be a good upgrade. I have been holding on to my Dell 24" 1920x1200 16:10 monitor for almost 11 years! Noting seemed like a worthy upgrade. I tried surround 28" 4k monitors and it was good, but the ghosting and viewing angle on the Acer monitors was horrid.

Was planning on holding off an upgrade until a 38"+, 4K,possibly Ultrawide 120hz Gsync monitor came out but that could be years... and I "need" something to get by. Having guest over and watching Netflix or split screen games is not the best thing on a 24"

Just wondering if I should have held off for the Crossover 434K 43" as I apparently have room for it and it comes with freesync, but I have Nvidia and it would not have helped me.

So it is too late to cancel my order, just hope it gets here in one piece with no dead pixels. Excited and nervous. Hope it lives up to what everyone has been saying. Does anyone have pictures of their setup with the 404K?

I was in the same boat as you and I was scouring the interwebs yesterday trying to draw comparisons between the 434K and the 404K. I couldn't really find anything, so the sale was too tempting, I can't imagine the 434K being worth the couple hundred dollars more. Also, the 434K has not gotten the freesync update, and there is no guarantee that it will. I don't think we will be disappointed by any stretch, especially for the price. I think I will actually prefer the va panel as I don't do any color critical work.

I agree, the several hundred dollar price difference was not worth 3", I'll still have to get used to 40" l:p I could not find enough info on the LG panel they were using for the 434K to take the jump.
 
At $500 the 404k is an absolute steal. I have a Dell 2408 next to mine in portrait, and I almost hate looking at it lol. You'll love the upgrade Zam15.
 
I received a damaged Wasabi Mango UHD420 so I setup a return and ordered the 404k for $500. Although it was IPS, had freesync, and the extra 3 inches in size, I don't think I will miss the Wasabi Mango UHD420.
 
I don't have this option. Is it a different firmware? If so how does one get it?

No idea, I get mine tomorrow and will check the OSD. Don't have an AMD card to verify. Perfect timing as I just updated to Windows 10. A 40" 4K Freesync monitor for $499 is just crazy... Was planning on going Ultrawide but those can go for over $1,200... No brainer. I can still run Ultrawide 21:9 if I need to, best of both worlds. A curve is not worth $700.

I'm just hoping Freesync support gets confirmed for the 434K, I prefer that model because the PPI is about the same as my 30" monitors.
 
Im thinking this is either a BS SS or they got a firmware update on the wrong 4k. Either way I call BS.

Are these crossovers the only glossy 4K available for the near future?

I can't stand matte.
 
FYI a 43 inch monitor has a PPI of 102.5, compared to 110 for a 40 inch.

By comparison a 21 inch 1080P monitor has a PPI 105. And a 24 inch of the same resolution has a PPI of 92.

In other words, 40 inchers are a bit on the dense side. In terms of pixels per inch, a 43 inch is actually closer to 21-24" 1080P monitors.

How many hours will you be in front of this thing? Is regular computer usage part of the equation? If yes, couple hundred dollars doesn't seem that much more expensive all of a sudden.

Sorry to disappoint, not BS, just got my 404K hooked up and indeed the FreeSync option is there in the menu, I don't have and amd card to try it out though.
 
If you ran this monitor at 2880x2160, would you be able to run it at a higher refresh rate than 60hz?

I just need around 64hz...
 
The 404K is a VA panel and the 434K is IPS, correct? That's worth some more dough to me.
 
The monitor arrived in perfect shape, love it so far. Happy I did not go with an $1200 Ultrawide, as watching old 4:3 shows on a 34" Ultrawide the actual video size would be tiny. Also 90% of what I watch is 16:9. 4K video and games looks great.

I ran a custom 21:9 resolution and it worked great, ended up having the equivalent of a 37" Ultrawide at higher resolution than currently available (3840x1640 vs. 3440 x 1440) all at 60hz. Better specs than anything but the Acer Gsync unit. For gaming it's awesome! It's like having two monitors in one.

Yeah, I've had mine for a week so far and its just been an awesome experience. Its just such a pleasure to game and watch movies on a large 4K monitor, and especially at the price, nothing comes close in my opinion.
