It looks like Chrysler is taking that remote hacking situation we told you about the other day seriously. If you own one of the cars on the list, take it in and get it patched.

The "voluntary safety recall" -- which it seems will come in the form of a USB dongle -- applies to vehicles equipped with 8.4-inch touchscreen in-car-entertainment systems. Affected cars include Jeep Grand Cherokee and Cherokee SUVs, Dodge Ram pickups and many others. If you're concerned your vehicle may be affected, you can see the full list here.

Thanks for the post. Looks like I need to make an appointment with the dealer.

why can't you just download the update and do it yourself with a USB thumb drive?

Already checked a few days ago but thanks. My beautiful 2015 all black Dodge Dart Rallye with the 8.4 UConnect is not on the list and not hackable. I do not have any built in internet access through it nor do I have the Navigation part either. (Love my car! :) )

I think this is being blown way out of proportion. But you are right if you don't have built in WIFI or hotspot access in the vehicle, nothing to worry about.

With unlimited data plans and the ability to stream audio via phone to the vehicles stereo, not sure why anyone would pay for additional data plans. Canadian versions of uconnect aren't affected as we don't have Uconnect access here. My wife has a 2014 Cherokee and it is not affected.

If your car gets hacked, all you have to do is close all windows and restart :)

And the embarrassingly poor design of new car networks is exposed again. I see no reason what so ever for any vehicle's(car, plane, ship, whatever) basic control systems to be connected in ANY way to the secondary systems like DVD, WiFi, Bluetooth, new system not yet invented. Even the power connections should be viewed as a possible attack route and shielded.

At this rate, it won't be long before we are commenting on a story involving a high school script kiddie who downloaded a 'hack your neighbor's car for fun' kit and remotely drives his just former girlfriend's car into the school entrance.

Once wired did their article on this subject, it was only a matter of time. Now I have to find out about securing the gf prius :/

This has happened before, in a more limited fashion.

I forget which gen Corvette it was, but when they first came out the cars could be stopped in their tracks by certain Radar guns if they were painted with them just right. Something about them messing with the control modules.

At least that's the excuse :)

My new Challenger made the cup. Looks like an excuse to browse the goody shop for anew coffee cup or something :D

You DO NOT have to take it in for the patch. You can download it from the Uconnect site and put it on a usb stick and easily update your vehicle yourself. I'm glad they are taking these measures to get everyone updated but it's not nearly as bad as the media is making it out to be. It could have been real bad had they not patched the now known vulnerability but they did... /threat

You have software and technology in your car that utilizes wifi.... Of course you will need to patch it!
