The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

Interesting how the flow of the game changes once you head over to Novigrad. I've barely fought anything for hours. You can probably head up there as early or as late as you feel like as it doesn't seem to really be affected by your level very much.

I dunno, seems most of the first wave of Novigrad stuff is level 10+. Skellige seems to be 16+. I did find one odd level 2 quest in Novigrad, a real outlier.

Get Junior/Gangs of Novigrad would probably be pretty hard to do before level 10 unless you're playing on 'story only'.

I use a SweetFX mod that stripped off the yellow hue and helps in other ways.
Much nicer.
http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/105

The great thing about this mod is that it comes with all the necessaries to activate it, no need to download SweetFX or configure it (although you can further enhance it if you want)

This is the one I am currently using. It gets rid of the piss filter.

Now if CDPR will just release the patch with the movement changes..

One of the only things that really bugs me about the movement is that you can't jump when you're in combat; you automatically switch to that dodge-roll move. The problem with this is most noticeable when you're on a boat, have sirens or something attacking you, you need to get out of the boat to crossbow them, but instead of jumping out you're doing barrel rolls into the side of the boat. I've had a few other times where I was in combat and needed to jump onto a short ledge, but couldn't get where I needed.

Really hoping they add an easier way to jump while in combat to the 1.07 movement fixes.

So when is 1.07 coming out anyways? Anyone know? I think I'm really close to finishing the game now, but there are a few missions I've been putting off 'till the patch is out.

You can fire the crosbow just fine from a ship down into the water?

This kinda shit is good to know. The lack of a jump was the most offputting thing for me in the witcher 2.

While doubtful they will will add it to this patch, I'd still love to be able to remap gamepad controls. Like the Last of Us, I think they chose a different scheme from everyone else just to be different.

I've spent probably dozens of hours at this point hunting down all those smuggler's caches, so I have a rather strong and detailed opinion on this by now. :p

Yeah, you can shoot them from the boat, but the crossbow seems to do a lot more damage if the enemy is in the water when they get hit (guess this was added so you'd have some defense underwater). So you can shoot them 2 or 3 times while they're flying through the air, or you can wait for them to come up and latch onto your boat, and once they stick their feet in the water they can often be put down with one shot, but then you run the risk of them damaging your boat.

In my experience, the best method is to preemptively jump in the water and shoot them once they dive under to get you. More consistent kills, and less risk of them damaging the boat.

My main problem with this is if they get too close before you decide to jump out of the boat, you go into combat mode, and then you have to barrel-roll into the side of the boat until a glitch lets you roll through the edge of the boat into the water.

I've lost more than one boat because that process was too slow and awkward.

Yep, thankfully they did finally add jumping in TW3. Unlike the first and second games, the movement system works great and is highly adaptive, hopping over fences, stepping onto medium ledges, pulling yourself up onto overhead areas. It works great like 95% of the time, but there are still a few glitches. When you go into combat mode, the jump turns into a dodge-roll that only takes you a few inches off the ground, so this can be a serious nuisance if you're fighting in an area will lots of medium-high obstacles around. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

It's all INI hacking - I took a mod off of Nexus and went through and tweaked it a bit.

I'm sure someone could write up an application to do so in a nice GUI (I don't know how to program in Windows-y things). :p

Yeah, I tried one that maps things a bit like the Dark Souls layout, but it ended up screwing up as many functions as it actually helped. I went back to the defaults.

While the movement in the Witcher 3 is good and better than many games, to me it always feels a little clumsy. Object detection and interacting with asymmetrical objects just doesn't feel quite "right." Not sure how to describe it, but I guess it reminds me a little of PC games in the dark ages when collision wasn't up to snuff and gamepad support was quirky at best. I think it's just a little unpolished when most games tend to do what you want without fail.

protip: there is nothing worth getting in any of the smugglers caches, no hidden gem or "special weapons" or easter eggs. I know because I did them all. It is extremely rare to get a usable piece of gear, and if you do the school missions that gear is generally better. You do get runes & glyphs & crafting material but none of it is worth the time invested. If you are a completionist then go for it. I won't bother with any of them on my next playthrough

I modified one of those layouts, fixing quite a few things the author didn't think about. I can shoot you over mine if you want.

The interaction with the environment does feel wonky and quite a few times I've had floating dead bodies from the inability of the engine to handle geometry. It's floaty in weird parts and definitely isn't the tidiest open-world roaming games out there in that sense.

Sometimes you won't find out until it's too late that it's a worthless cache - just another part of the question mark vomit all over my map :D

I am using Reshade with SweetFX2.0 to desaturate the colors a bit to my tastes. I just feel the game is overly colorful without it.

The problem with SweetFx and all that ENB crap for games is while it fixes some problems it brings in other problems such as too dark when it is night time and such.

On the other hand I did find the Powerplay 1.3 SweetFx to be lot nicer than what is on the Nexus at the moment. But I find the default Witcher 3 maxed out graphics but with low level sharpening to be the best balance. The sharpening setting in W3 is broken.

DAng, when is this patch coming.

They delay the DLC and make people think it'd be soon and a lot of people are waiting on the patch to get back into the game (including me).

Hope it comes out soon.

Me, too, but considering how robust this patch is... I don't think any of us wants them to rush it and then we have a "solves one problem, creates two to three new problems" issue.

I can imagine that the inventory section for books could very easily be game breaking, so they're probably crossing their t's and dotting their i's to ensure that it doesn't.

Looks like blurred dog shit on my system.

Sounds like you need to calibrate your monitor or get some new glasses?

The ENB does the exact opposite of blurring the image. It sharpens the image, gets rid of the yellow filter and de-saturates some of the colors. There also is no black crush.

The added SMAA instead of CDPR's post FXAA-like in-game AA is also much better.

I'm dying to know what this alternative movement style is. If it gets rid of the 1 second delay between pushing forward and actually running, then by golly this will be the best patch of all time.

No, just no.

Tried it out for the first time today. Movement and camera controls are really bad, I hope I get used to that. Graphics are pretty good actually I was surprised after reading so much about a major downgrade.

However, it didn't take 20 minutes until I got non-stop display driver crashes (353.30, Titan X at stock, no OC). Good game. I have this Titan X since release and played GTA V pretty much every day as well as Dragon Age Inquisiton, no problems whatsoever.

Is Witcher 3 known to cause problems like this? If the card is going downhill I probably just RMA and go for 2 980ti's instead.

Nvidia drivers just aren't very good right now.

Console master race :-(

Could be it. I was on the older 350.12 for many weeks as I had no reason to update to a newer release. Thought for Witcher 3 I'd update to the latest but there seem to be a lot of problem from what I read on geforce forums now.

Yeah that is quite big but yet again it's for ps4, they said the patch for PC would be in the 2-2.2gb range. Probably would be released tomorrow for us pc players.
