Who is worthy of this honor?

To nominate someone, you must give at least a brief reasoning behind why they should be nominated.

More rules and policies are below.

Nominate the best and the brightest!

From the [H]ard|DCer of the Month - FAQ and [H]all of fame:

Q: What is the [H]ard|DCer of the Month?

Every month, the team gets a chance to choose someone they thought contributed greatly to the team, and give them a bit of recognition for it. At the begining of each month, a nomination thread is held. Here is your chance to nominate whoever you think deserves recognition. Someone can be nominated for any reason. It does not matter if they designed some massive piece of software to help the team in some way, or simply added a few boxen to ramp up their production.

Q: How do things work?

Nominations are held for 10 days starting on the 1st of each month. The nominated people move onto a poll and the Poll will be open for 10 days following the end of the nomination thread. The remaining part of the month is reserved for congratulating the winner and have fun. Same as before, vote for whoever you want, for whatever reaons you want. If there is a tie, a runoff will be held. After the winner is chosen, they are interviewed so the entire team can see what makes them tick.

For the [H]ard|DCer of the Year, there is no nominations thread because the only worthy candidates is the [H]ard|DCer of the Month winners for the current year. The poll to choose a winner is done in 2 steps : The first poll will include all 12 winners for the current year and we select only the best 4 winners which will participate in the next round. If there is a tie in the first 4 ranks, the tie winners will move together. In the second round, the one with the most votes will be declared the winner but if there is a tie, a runoff vote will be held. Each step will last 10 days.

Q: What does the winner get as prize?

Being that there is no cash flow funding the [H]ard|DCer award, there is only so much we can do in the way of prizes The [H]|DCers do not have a physical prize, but thanks to Kyle and the rest of the gang, we still have something to give winners. All winners will receive a custom title showing off their achievement.

Q: Are there any rules for this?

To nominate someone, you must give at least a brief reasoning behind why they should be nominated.

Past winners cannot be nominated until one full year after they last won.

You cannot nominate yourself.

Hard DCer of the Year winners are excluded forever.

Any contestation or question about the nomination thread should be done via PM.

What is going on? Is no one worthy of this honor? 3 days without a nomination?

Maybe others feel differently but personally I feel the whole [H]ard|DCer of the month/year has run its course.

This thread right now has 279 views and virtually no comments. Says a lot. I say just rip the bandage off quickly to lessen the pain. The people getting nominated recently either have won multiple times or in the case of the last nominations don't even visit the forum. Seriously, what's the point? This is my last post on this subject. Do what you feel is right/best.

Well
1. The squeaky wheel tends to get the grease. Many of our members never take the time to post even a hello in the forums. I'm sure most just lurk and don't bother even logging in.
2. To get the title, the member needs to also have an account here in the forums. Some of our members don't actually have logins. So, giving them a title really doesn't work.
3. The award isn't just for [H] members, but whomever wins still needs to have an account in our forums to receive it. When people use multiple handles across forums and projects, how would you prove whom they even are?
4. A quarterly award? Just means we want to honor fewer members. I know EVGA recently switched to this. It also seems to be the same hand full of people getting the awards. I think the grumbling in the past was people feeling they should have been nominated for their contribution. However, it is hard to do when they rarely post in the DC threads. I really don't like voting for a one month wrangler. However, a lot of the long term members seem to have quit posting. It makes it hard to justify a [H] award for someone that seems to have retired.
5. Once you get HDOTY, you are done getting acknowledged. I have heard some members state that they don't really want the award because they will no longer get acknowledged for their continued efforts. Yes this is an ego thing, but that is what a title tends to bring.

I will nominate Viper97. He contributes to Crunching@EVGA but does a lot for their team. He is also excluded from their COTQ awards since he is the one that manages it for them. He has shown a great deal of spirit for DC'ing and is generally very nice and helpful. His BOINC stats can be found here: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-5/user/detail/2324869/projectList and he does have a [H] forums account here http://hardforum.com/member.php?u=264751 I feel by helping provide our biggest FAH competitor with a solid BOINC team, that he helps make our competition that much greater and enjoyable.

FAH stats http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=560455 and http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=638593 which he did have a small period of contributing to the [H] from what I can see.

Just so you know, the quarterly COTQ was my idea to help stem the repeat customers or at least try to. Our team like yours has more active crunchers than we actually have active posters. I've tried to contact many of the crunchers via WCG email but alas, that's an effort that didn't yield much in the way of results.

I've come to understand that we will always have an active group of posters (small though it is) and more often than not I feel bad that I can't get the quiet crunchers the recognition they deserve.

Gil... thanks for the nomination. I am truly honored. [H] has always been a fun team to fold/crunch against regardless of past talk or smack talk. I've learned a lot from you including Ubuntu. (I'll probably curse you all for that later. ;) )

I'm not really sure how this works, I'm still too new here. But can I nominate beekeeper([H]ardOCP) for passing 400k Work units in F@H? He has really been in it for the long haul!

Well, as I complain every month, it requires a lot of thinking. A) they need to have a forum account, B) they can't have won HDCOTM in the past year, C) they can't have won HDCOTY ever, and D) they actually need to be qualified, preferably by DCing and not just me trying to antagonize them (Like I did with Patriot).

What about NixZiZ? Looks like he is doing well in boinc right now.

terrabyte89, as long as he meets the above requirements, you absolutely can. EXT64, is that a nomination or just a nod? ;)

That was me saying I am too lazy to see if NixZiZ qualifies, but if he does I nom him :D If he doesn't then I nom Patriot.

Maybe others feel differently but personally I feel the whole [H]ard|DCer of the month/year has run its course.

Any other thoughts on this idea?

I have very fond memories of the [H]orde of old, when we were over 1300 members strong in the F@H project alone, and I personally feel that everything is too fragmented and spread out to continue the monthly recognition. We were a very focused team on top of the entire project in contributions, and when we did lose the title to EVGA then we were able to rally back and regain the honor. Others outside of the team even helped us out when needed. We were well respected and a cornerstone for the entire project.

Sadly, I just don't think we will ever regain that kind of status again. Long live the [H]orde in all its former glory.

Well said.

We are not as active on the forums as we used to be. Fragmentation is a good reason.

I miss F@H.
I'm usually more active in IRC. Lately, studies have taken over and I haven't been able to get on. I will make time to get in there sooner or later. My forum participation is sparse. I lurk most of the time.
Anyway, I like the DC'er of the month. I've never paid anymore or less attention to this thread. Monthly isn't a bad idea as long as there's plenty of people participating. I think with a greater pool, there would be more interest. It seems since I've joined that the DC'er section has progressively grown dead. I remember this is where I came to look at stuff for sale. You're lucky to find a recent for sale thread in here anymore. If there was a way to bring this thing back to life, I think the answer is to increase the pool of active participants. Maybe post the results on another site, as some have mentioned it's necessary to be a member here to win it...?
I did my 30 mil and got out when they announced they were dropping BA. I hope to contribute again in the near future. When the time is right, I'll be back in it. Until then, old phones will be churning out Enigma units.
With all that said, I'll go for NixZiZ. I personally know what type of person he is. While I don't know his forum contributions (mobile-not even going to check), I do know he's contributed more than just folding. He's in IRC regularly and active when possible.

Actually, I noticed in the early days after joining the team that only (or mostly ?) previous winners of DCOTM/DCOTY nominated team members, which, in a way, makes sense. I do not think this practice is part of the rules posted each month by Pocatello, but it appears to be a practice. So each month I lurk on this thread, and then I vote, but i do not participate in nominations. Not sure if other feel the same and consequently do not nominate ?
