EVGA GTX 980 - $236.54 for Price Matching ONLY

I don't think I have the resources to pull an old page w/ images from my phone.
Besides, that's fraud! :p The sale is over...

RIP deal. thank the slickdeals bottomfeeders for ruining it

i tried 5 places this morning, no go.
i almost had one BB location sub 980tis instead.

office depot/max was willing to price match it, but when they looked it up online to confirm it was showing normal price.

The listing wasn't searchable.
So if they went to microcenter.com and typed in "GTX 980" it wouldn't pop up.

Wow. I regret not checking the Hot Deals section yesterday afternoon. Congrats to those who go in on the deal.
While I could use the screenshot provided by TaintedSquirrel, I can't bring myself to do that. In my book that's too unethical since it isn't even listed on microcenter's site at the moment.

My CC was charged, but I'm awaiting shipping confirmation and of course delivery.

EVGA has a $20 rebate on this card if purchased from Newegg. I assume it's not even worth submitting through another store.

Here are the details of my Staples order e-mail. I've obviously removed my personal details. Fingers crossed that it arrives next week as stated. The formatting is a little screwy from the copy and paste.

Mods, please keep this thread open for a week so that we can post our updates. Perhaps move it to the [H]ot Deals Discussion if need be.

Staples' online shipment tracking is terrible, by the way.
Updates are slow, sometimes not at all. It could just show up at your door without notice.

They often hand-off to different carriers so a lot of info gets lost along the way. Keep that in mind.

Looks like you were charged regular price

If this does indeed come through, I'll treat myself to a quality 1 TB SSD I've been eying w/o waiting for it to drop below $300.

Yes, my order isn't showing up in their tracking ID link. I'll try again on Mon. I hope no signature will be required. I thought about just having it shipped to the store b/c they're on my way home, but I was worried another manager might see the order and price and inquire about it, possibly canceling the order.

They just listed the regular price, not the PM'd price I paid.

What does it say in your bank account?
$512.11 (8.25% tax in TX) pending charge on my CC, which I assume will be settled on Mon.

staples website says this for me now

Sorry, but an error has been made.

Hmm...it looks like we're having some trouble matching your order number. Before continuing, please make sure you have entered your order number correctly.

I got shut down at several BB and Staples, but Office Depot was not a problem at all. If you live in Dallas print out the PDF that has been floating around with the Microcenter Capture and go up to the store and say you want to price match it. The one I went to is in Addison off Beltline and Montfort, the manager was very helpful and took care of it right away. Good luck!

Just went to my local OfficeMax asked for the manager and he price matched it without question. Thanks for the tip.

must be a location thing, but when i tried that yesterday both managers looked it up online to verify, they said if they couldnt see it live on their systems they wouldnt match it.

Really from what I can tell, if you try to pricematch now, off of an older printed page it's pretty much fraud. The price isnt listed on the website, it's not really for sale. On top of that, going by the reddit thread, there have been emails sent from corporate to staples and officemax/depot not to pricematch, and peoples orders have been cancelled. This thing's dead.

Yeah I was going to say that using an old pdf at this point is equivalent to photoshopping a different price and getting it matched. It is legitimately fraud.

The deal happened on a Friday which gives retailers plenty of time to cancel orders.
Depends if they ship stuff from their warehouse over the weekend.

Even if the order says "Shipped" it doesn't necessarily mean the box has left the warehouse. Especially with Staples since they use their own courier service. I would only trust a USPS/FedEx/UPS tracking number.

Some stores are still price matching the PDF printout.
I can't believe employees are dumb enough to price match a PIECE OF PAPER. There's no date on the PDF either. Theoretically you could keep it forever and go price match the 980 whenever you want.

Even better, edit the PDF yourself; change the price, turn it into a 980 Ti if you want! Change the SKU, etc. Fuck it.

The deal is continuing to spread via Reddit over the weekend:

If anything kills this deal (cancellations) it will be the idiots on PCMR.

Where do you live? All the Office Depot and Office Max caught on and if they did, it's for sure the bigger chains like BestBuy and Staples caught on here, I am in So Cal.

Being near a MicroCenter helps but the success rate of the pricematch depends entirely on the employees and who you talk to. Some cashiers don't even call the manager; they just issue the pricematch and you're done. Others call the manager and they don't care either, so they approve it. It's a complete coin toss.

The more stores you try, the better your odds.

You can still print the PDF and give it a shot. OfficeMax seems to be working well.

They're only meant to match in stock deals, the microcenter item wasn't in stock anywhere. This only worked by getting someone who didn't know what they were doing in one of the retail stores. It's more likely you'll waste a few hours of your time and get nothing.

That's called fraud, genius.
