Skylake-S release date: August 5th

Was going to build a new system but waiting now to see what this all looks like. 6700k sounds good with a Z170.

I'm really hoping for some promising mini-itx z170 boards. I would like a smaller machine.

Also hoping for some nice ITX boards as I've already got an ITX system and do not want to go to anything larger again. It'd be nice if someone ships one with a Bluetooth card included.

What new motherboard features I can get along with final street pricing on the 6700K will be major factors in whether I make the leap from my 3570K.

Are these guys smokin' something or is there some basis of truth behind it?

Skylake delayed to Q4?

Barron's is usually quite authoritative... If they do push it back to this on the heels of the LGA Broadwell vapor launch it could mean that there is big trouble in 14nm land...

Edited since it seems that it's a subscriber based story so not everyone can read it. Here is the critical paragraph:

"Based on our research efforts, we believe Intel has been running their 14 nanometer (nm) fabs at full capacity, which could be as a result of continued yield challenges. Moreover, such yield challenges at 14nm could lead Intel to delay the launch of its Skylake platform until the fourth quarter (about a one-quarter delay). We also believe Intel will likely delay the move to 10nm by roughly two quarters (into 2016), likely as a result of the product roadmap delay and not as a result of technology challenges. Along with our estimate cuts and expectation of 10nm being delayed, we believe Intel will lower their capital-expenditure guidance and we now estimate full-year capital expenditure in the $7.7 billion range (versus our prior view of $8.7 billion)."

hopefully blowing, I was planning on doing a brand new build on August 5th :(

I'd be very surprised if this was delayed to Q4. Every other site is saying August 5-8th, probably at Gamescon. With all the Z170 boards being leaked lately as well, I'm inclined to agree with this date.

I'm sitting here with everything besides a processor and mobo hoping they launch on August 5th like everyone is predicting. If it gets pushed back then I guess I will be going devils cannon.

I was all ready to do a 5775C build and we all know what happened to that CPU... it seems that they only exist in the hands of reviewers... And now that Cannonlake is supposedly officially dead and replaced with the post-Kaby Lake Ice Lake, I am now officially confused and very wary of what is going on (or not going on) at Intel fabs.

For a 5% average increase?

I'd like to see a P4/PD to C2D/C2Q kind of performance increase.

Or the kind of performance increase I saw last month, going from a Q6600 2.85ghz to a 4690K at 4.40ghz. Now that was an increase in performance.

You never see major performance increases when one CPU mfgr is dominant. It's not in their interest to bring that kind of performance to the table when they can release incremental, 10%-15%, increases and reap profit.

Sad, really, because I miss the days of Intel and AMD going head-to-head. We saw more innovation at that time than any other time. Thank dog it happened when it did or we'd be stuck using RAMBUS and BTX, lol

I have an Intel Vermelha with motherboard and 4 TB of DDR6 memory if anyone is interested. It was manufactured in your year 2034. Clock speed is 8.6 Ghz and it has 64 cores. It's comparable to the Intel Cinza ( ~ 10 petaflops). Unfortunately, it's locked.

It was from their conference call.
