MSI Launches The GTX 980 Ti GAMING 6G

Funny I asked the same question via email and got this very different response @10:27 am EST today:

They just looked at the website date. I had to remind them that my order was for 7/1 and that's when they checked with the ordering department. It really depends on when you ordered it. The customer service department don't really know what they're doing (read my chat log again).

Going to make the same move soon. To me it is a no a brainer. I feel the MSI is the best choice right now. I'm also debating on the hybrid one.

I ordered on Sunday when it said delivery 7/10 and I got an email this afternoon that they sent my order to the manufacturer/distributor and my order would come direct from them. Then at about 8pm tonight I got another email that said my order shipped. Not sure how mine shipped faster than others that ordered before me. No shenanigans on my part at least!

Now the real question...I was planning on using an H90 with the g10 bracket, but the h110 is only like $12 more and I could easily fit it in the front of my case. Is it worth it? From temp standpoint probably not, from e-peen standpoint.....maybe....just maybe...

I know an normal H55 can keep a 780 lightning pumping 1.35v under 70c. And thats a normal rad with 2 120's.

If I had my choice I would go with an H90 or X41 kracken. Thats would give ya more overclocking room.

You dont need to worry about VRM's since you will have a 92mm fan blowing on them.

Can anyone who has this card please let the rest of us know how quiet this thing is? I'm interested in it...but only if it's silent. I don't want another blower in my system, and I was going to get the Asus 980 GTX STRIX, but then the 980 Ti came out.

Yeah going to go with H90 and use the saved $ to pick up some copper heatsinks to place on the midplate over the VRAM. Should help increase surface area from the flat plate in that area, as the VRM already have a finned plate. Probably won't order all that until a week after I have played with the card to make sure there are no defects requiring RMA.

Can people who bought from BH report back if their cards shipped today. Will convince me to order the gaming cards since the classifieds have no report on stock.

So mad mine did not ship out yesterday and still says packaging. I ordered at 2 PM California time which is where it should be coming from and paid for next day delivery. I live in Alabama and have ordered stuff as late as 5 PM and had it ship out from the Memphis warehouse that night. Also when it comes from Memphis, it always comes next day anyway even with regular ground because its so close I guess.

If you didn't pay for the $3 "Rushed ordering" option, thats why and it HAS to be before 12 PST before that will even work.

I have never once paid that and again I have placed orders at 5 PM that shipped out that night. I guess this time it did not work out though.

Damn I ordered last Friday (6/26) and it still says pending. I'll call them once they open to get the real scoop.

Well I said screw it to classifieds and ordered 2 of these puppies from B&H. Let's hope they ship sooner than the 10th. Dammit.

So I've ordered an H75 and the G10 bracket, should.be here friday. I'll keep you posted on how it fits. I'm thinking I need longer screws or thin washers to use the back plate as the pressure plate.. we'll see! My 980ti 6g is a warm runner so, anything helps.

I just called B&H and they said they haven't received any of these and no one's order has shipped - so they called BS....

Well they turned my order over to be filled by the manufacturer/distributor so maybe that is why...they didn't fill it. It is getting shipped from CA, no NY where they are located. This is at the bottom of the shipping email:

PLEASE NOTE:

These items are being drop shipped directly from the manufacturer/distributor. If the Ship Date is a non-business day (i.e. Sunday or Legal Holiday) then the shipping carriers are closed and your order was not shipped on this date. It is merely the date that your order was packed by the manufacturer/distributor and will be picked up by their respective carrier on the NEXT business day. Please be advised that the above Tracking number(s) were created by the manufacturer/distributor shipping department and they will only be recorded by their respective carriers late in the evening of the day of pickup. Tracking information for orders shipped via UPS is not available for all locations. B&H cannot take responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided by the manufacturer/distributor. For further information please contact our customer service department at (800) 221-5743

Looks like I will not be receiving it until Monday. Not sure why they are holding on to some orders and releasing others to manufacturer/distributor.

According to this video of applying g10 while keeping midplate/backplate he used:
Nylon Washer http://**************/1wAPbnz
Nylon Finishing Washer http://**************/1wAPwH4
25mm Mounting Screw http://**************/1tCi7M7
I will be ordering those with my H90 and G10 next week. Contemplating changing the fan to Noctua A9 as I do like their fans and it will probably have more static pressure to push the air through the little fins on the VRM heatsinks. The Cooler Master fan looks good but I have had bad luck with their fans.

So spoke with BH through live chat. Guy clearly said that these cards are not coming before 10th. DAMMIT!

I ordered it from Newegg. In the end it cost me $20 more but I should have it by Friday at the latest.

When I asked about my order, the guy also said July 10th. That's when I told him that when I ordered the estimated date was 7/1. He then took about 5 minutes to ask somebody else and that's when he said my order has arrived and will ship Wednesday or Thursday. You have to insist that they check because all they're doing is reading the date off of the website. Also, I live in California so I don't understand why they can't just ship it to me from CA.

If they're pulling shenanigans and making stuff up, I'm going to be real pissed.

My CC company is going ape shit lol. Since I have ordered and cancelled orders so many times. Now placed an order with the Egg. Going to see again in 48 hours if there is more stock before I can order again.

For those who ordered at B&H when the ETA was July 1, it looks like they're shipping now. My CC was just charged the amount earlier.

Unreal - 30mins after I placed the order @ Newegg, I got an email from Chase asking if I approve a $669 charge from B&H. Long of it short, B&H is shipping out my card tomorrow for a Friday delivery. All that for nothing! Luckily I was able to cancel my rush Newegg order.

Newegg has been at 679 for past 2-3 shipments. I just hope they have cards in stock on Friday so I can order my second card.

Got mine the other night. Have not had much time to mess about but did some quick overclock testing. It is interesting how the dynamic clocking really is all over the place with the same OC settings. Witcher 3 hangs out around 1480-1490Mhz, 3dMark Firestrike jumps to 1516mhz, Metro Last Light drops all the way down to 1450Mhz with a few blips even lower than that. Memory seems to clock well, currently testing at +450mhz. ASIC is 74.5%.

What surprised me a little were the temps though, having had the MSI GTX 970 Gaming for a while which often ran in the mid 60's OC'd to 1500+ and occasionally would hit 70C, but this 980ti running looping Metro LL benchmark maxed out shot all the way to 81C at 75% fan when OC'd. Witcher 3 testing ran about 6C cooler (but average gpu load was lower on Witcher 3). Idle it is nice and cool and the card is very quiet. I really cannot notice it over my Corsair case fans and Glacer 240L. Need some more time testing though.

Compare the heatsink on the 980 Ti to the 980/970, it might be the same one.
So you're now putting an extra 80ish watts or more through the same cooler.

Yeah, I noticed that the Ti defintetly puts out more heat then my STRIX 980 ever did and thats what my new Gigabyte G1 Gaming is doing well, its handling the heat with its big cooler where the MSI, the trade off is noise vs cooling potential

Can you test the noise and temp at 100% fan?

Wonderful! Please report back. I'm thinking of getting the Corsair H55 + G10 and mount it on the MSI. It looks like it might fit but it probably depends on if the mounting holes are same as reference.

MSI is coming out with a watercooled edition but that's probably only coming out at the end of August it's probably cheaper to just build your own watercooling setup for the card. From the looks of it the upcoming MSI card is just the Corsair AIO with their HG10 bracket.

Backplates generally don't do much for actual cooling and since there are no VRAM chips in the back of the card you could probably just ditch the backplate if you can't fit the waterblock otherwise. Without a hefty heatsink on the card it should be rigid on its own.

In my experience, non-reference coolers cool the graphics card (and ONLY the graphics card) better. Everything else in the case ends up running warmer due to the extra heat being dumped into the case.

Counter-acting this effect by running case fans at higher RPM generally leads to generating as-much (or more) noise than the Nvidia reference blower. If you're ok with trading extra noise for additionally cooling, well... could have just run the blower faster, kept your case fans at low-RPM, and saved the rest of your components from the additional heat.

The TJ09 although old is perfect for such a set up. Dual and silent 120 mm fans on top to exhaust all heat, and fresh air intake dedicated to the video subsystem rules. I will never part with this case for that reason.
