There's still milk in em cows!

One would think they got frostbite engine so well developed with bf4 making these new games will hopefully have much better starts than bf4 did. Not having to waste time on more than one api should help in the long run anyway.:D

I enjoyed 2142 but there weren't many playing back in the day. I ended up playing with bots most of the time.

This is relevant to my interests. Oh God, is that a campaign screen shot i'm seeing there, shit i hope not, i'd rather have bots again.

Thanks for this Blade

Huh? I always played on a full server.

How long did you play? There were full servers when it came out then tapered off then it was full again when the expansion came out then tapered off.
Everyone else was still going back to BF2,

I was able to get the games put into my Origin account, which was cool,

while it would be ok, doesn't BF3-BF4 already have enough goofy crap laser light shows happening, the ONLY thing they are missing is fancier body armor and mechs then it would be BF2143.

The thing I 100% despise with Frostbite based games their camera view is crud compared to older games and while some of the graphics are "modernized" many of them are also quite over done and not "natural" feeling.

After what BF3-BF4 turned into being with all the stuff just crammed in there and not well thought out, 2143 could come out tomorrow, I am not buying. Nothing like a company to bring out major games and not truly bother to support them, and when the playerbase is still playing the crap out of them, to decide to just shut them down.

10 bajillion rifles, numerous anti-vehicle weapons that are grossly overpowered or act the same as others if they are not, "EA we once had game"

I still missing the building destruction in Bad Company 2. My fondest memory is holding out on a Rush target until I literally ran out of bullets. My nephew was on the other team and rushed my position since he knew I was out of bullets. Laid a C4 at the top of the stairs that when I detonated it blew him up, and through the window onto the snow covered ground. All these years later and we still laugh about it.

Also there was great satisfaction in laying C4 around a building and dropping it with 2 squads of men inside it.

Would this be the follow up to Battlefield 4
Or can you expect a Battlefield 5

Yeah, miss those days too. Only problem was players would immediately set out to take out every building. The whole map would be leveled by the end of a 64p TDM round. No cover, no masking your movement, no fun, lol. Great time getting to that point though.

Yeah, the game had some fun moments, despite all of it's flaws. I remember being attacker on Port Valdez, second set of mcoms. Somebody armed "A" and a hordes of enemies started pouring in. I tossed the grenade in there and at that point building was being held together by duct tape it seems. It came tumbling down and the kill tally was scrolling for like 20 seconds, lol. I counted 12 kills iirc.

On topic, i remember you could be a dick in 2142 too. Group of guys i played with was being messed with in a server, so we fucked with them that night (we didn't do that unless we wanted to pay back abusive admin). When your shields were down you could go and toss RDX on your own Titan's consoles, jump down from the Titan where your "enemies/friends" are waiting, they'll kill you and take your kit and detonate RDX, destroying the consoles, all while 10 teammates are standing there guarding it. They could not figure out what the hell is happening, getting mad as hell. Hope they'll fix that in the next game though :D

I'm not entirely surprised they are working on this. Didn't the last BF4 DLC have a lot of references to 2142? It'll be interesting to see if this is a full blown battlefield, or if its going to be more like what 1943 was. If it's intended to be a full blown game, I hope they aren't planning to release it prior to Holiday 2016.

While there were 2142 easter eggs in BF3 End Game and BF4 Final Stand, and it may well be that DICE LA is working on 2143 while Sweden finishes up Battlefront, I'm pretty sure this is fanart (fake).

Probably. These things often are. I'm just saying it's not illogical that a 2142 followup would be our next Battlefield game. It seems that or WW2 is what people are really after. The whole modern setting is quickly loosing momentum, and if needs to die off before it can come back again with BF5.

There is a very troubling pattern with Battlefield series, and that is basically the lines between different games are becoming very blurry and similar.

* BF3/4 are VERY similar, with 4 having more flare, guns, addons, and slightly different feel, but at the core its the same game.
* Hardline was/is a terrible game if you are a BF fan, there is no other way of putting it. Its a $30 expansion at most as was Vietnam which only cost $15. It was a money grab which was basically a mod, with a campaign thrown in.
* BF4 Final Stand expansion is basically BF2143, without the titan mode, factions and other techie stuff. Current sniper addons with motion sensing is straight out of BF2142, along with hoover tanks, laser rifle that is one shot kill and numerous other add ons from several different classes.

Vehicle combat is a joke compared to what we had in 3. Vehicles have terrible animation
and just in general do not feel fun while playing in them. BF is becoming what COD is, simple infantry combat spam and forgets what made it good and diverse with fun vehicle combat.

Problem is that every iteration of a BF game becomes judged based on the previous game, and when that previous game has 40-50% of the same content and feel I cant feel that I am being ripped off. Everything BF4 currently has is almost half the game 2143 is going to be and I just cant see myself spending $110 again on something I have already played.

Whats worse is that when EA stops supporting the previous titles and you dont have premium, well then good luck finding a server to play on or any reasonable pops to play with.

BF2142 was one o my favourite games in the BF franchise. I'm not going to accuse anyone of talking out their rear-ends, but anyone who's actually played the game on a full server (a rarity, I'll explain below) knows that 2142 was one of the most balanced and fast-paced BF games out there. The air-vehicles all controlled like helicopters, instead of havin the buzzkill jets flying around and killing infantry with no real way to stop them. The walkers acted as both imposing threats and dynamic objectives that did a fantastic job of commanding the attention of the tanks and air vehicles. The ground transports were small and nimble, as well; allowing an unguarded base to taken quite effectively, encouraging your team to actually guard already captured objectives instead of just 'attack attack attack 24/7 attack'

But.

People were right in the midst of modern fever, an if a game didn't have an M16 or AK47, it crashed hard in sales. So BF2142 didn't have a huge online community after a year or so... A real shame considering just how fun the game was.

Well thats a bummer.....Well hopefully they bring it next year anyway after battlefront starts to get old. Speaking of which is only 4 days away;)

It is bound to come, whether fake or not. Maybe after Battlefront is finished by Dice they will make 2142 equivalent. Or maybe its already in production. Modern shooters are played out, there is no replay value in these type of games anymore as they get very boring quickly.

After DICE closed servers did 2142 community got private servers like BF2 did?
Any one know?

As much as I would like this to happen, I know that it would just be fucked up by DICE like BF3/4/Hardline/soon Battlefront.

I dunno, somehow I still manage to have fun and get tons of hours out of those games. There are no other games quite like them in terms of feel - a big 64 player map with so many different things going on, hop into a jet, heli, tank, strap C4 to a jeep, go infantry, do whatever you want. There are bugs sure but what these games do manage to do, they do very well. I know that ever since BF2 the needle has been progressively moving more toward CoD in terms of focus, but the games are still compelling.

The DICE LA team is also doing some great work, they've singlehandedly turned BF4 around since taking it over. If they get involved in 2143 then I'll expect great things.

The game itself killed the online community. I quit because it became degenerate.

Titan mode rarely worked the way it was supposed to as the Titans would glitch.
Pod drifting was never fixed and allowed infantry to essentially appear anywhere on the map whenever they spawned.
Rifle rockets were a secondary fire on the best assault rifle which was on the same kit as the revive tool. A year in almost every player used that kit.

I had a lot of fun playing for 6+ months. I absolutely agree with the stuff the made the game fun. If they had patched pod drifting and separated the revive/rockets I would have played much longer.

Speak for yourself! 2142 had a much longer life span than a 6 months that you describe lmao... Some one had fun for 6 months and some had fun for 2, 3 years, that includes me with a rocket loaded Voss.
So when did the medic class became suddenly too OP in games?

I played well into 2009 and my group stopped just because of crazy lag that nobody could get rid of. I did get little bored at that point though. Good thing that BC2 came out not too long after that.

I had some fun with BF3 as well at the start...but it soon became apparent what direction EA/DICE were taking and I haven't touched it since. It's being milked as badly as the CoD franchise now IMO.

BF3 was the biggest waste of money for me, I paid $120 for the game and premium and only played for 11 hours.
I think I may have gotten distracted by the COD games, which aren't the greatest games, but some of the game modes were enjoyable like Kill Confirmed.
BF Hardline just added Kill Confirmed to it's new DLC, it's called Bounties.

I actually played maybe 50-100 hours on the BF3 Beta.

BF2142 had tons of net code problems at launch, it was very difficult to stay on a server for the whole round. I remember having to do tons of port forwarding and updating to get it working semi-consistently. Guess that is pretty typical for Battlefield games, but....

Was really fun at the time, though.

Not surprised this is fake... Heard a lot of good things about 2142, but I didn't have a PC capable of running it when it was popular (stolen during a break-in while I was at work).

Did they announce the 1942 remake? I'm just going to continue to pretend this is the 1942 remake thread.

Ideally (for me) in a squad game like battlefield you get a fairly even mix of classes working together. Unfortunately the best strategy in 2142 was to have 3/4 of your team playing the same class with the same configuration.

It got really old for me after a while and it was one of the big things that led me to quit.

6+ months is a guess on my part. It may have been more like a year - I did play for at least some time after the northern strike expansion.

thats because the game was terribly coded and DICE gave up on the game after the fiasco from all the shitty BF2 fanboy's crying that the game didn't fit into the already overplayed genre at the time. so after about 4 months the game got put on the back burner and patches were taking 6-8 months to be released. mind you there was only ever 1 official patch released, every patch after that was a beta patch that required you to completely reinstall the game every time a new one was released. they also never fixed the insane lag caused by the titans being moved. i had some where around 500-600 hours put into BF2142, was honestly the best Battlefield game in the series, BFBC2 i'd put second on the list after they finally released a few bigger maps. especially the heavy metal map. BF2 i never really got into at that time since i was having more fun in other games and usually just played RTCW:ET which was free.

the 1942 remake was BF 1943 and it was only released on consoles.
