Batman: Arkham Knight

Jesus this game looks exactly the same as the previous games. Was expecting something a bit different this time from RS.

I thought that trailer was for the base game...I know at the end it mentions the Scarecrow Nightmare Mission but I thought that was just them mentioning it...it didn't say anything before the trailer about the content being exclusive to the PS4

I think the stuff shown in the trailer is from the Scarecrow Mission or at least some of it.

Digital Foundry: Hands-on with Batman Arkham Knight

Rocksteady's epic bucks the trend of unfinished, unpolished launch code...It's a sad fact that this generation's big releases are often playing catch-up on their promises post-launch - a "release now, fix later" mentality that developer Rocksteady thankfully doesn't appear to subscribe to in its excellent Batman Arkham Knight...having played the PlayStation 4 review code extensively, we're pleased to see the game is set to launch in a very refined, polished state...as the finale to the Arkham saga, it's a superb production, but crucially it also turns in a slick, stable playing experience with solid performance on day one...

Some people are impossible to please... Just go to YouTube and look at the previous arkham games. Larger area, different story, bat mobile and much more detailed Gotham City.

Eff me, this sounds like it couldn't get any better. Those review scores are epic. Way to end things on a high note, you badass mother****ers.

What, like Superman? Batman goes to Bahamas? Different how?

It's an effing Batman game.

Rocksteady's Batman formula is just getting tiresome. Now we have 4 games with the exact same gameplay, mechanics, world, etc, etc except we have a batmobile that all the reviewers are saying is a chore to use and devalues the open world aspect of the game.

I know this is a crazy thought but I was just hoping for some variety outside of everything being exactly the same as the previous games. This is Arkham City with a shitty batmobile.

I'll wait until it's $5 on Steam.

Additional crazy thought - don't buy the game. Plenty of other cool stuff going on with other franchises to worry really. Good stuff coming through the pipeline too.

It's a formula that has been wildly successful. You can wait and the rest of us will be having a blast.

Like any CoD? or recent Battlefield series? Come on man. Some people actually dont mind the gameplay because it's fluid and better than other games out there. The only game I can think of right now that doing something different is Fallout 4.

So what you're saying it's a sequel? Isn't that the point of a sequel, "more of the same" with some minor improvements? I don't see Call of Duty becoming a turn-based strategy JRPG anytime soon for this reason.

Do you only play AAA games?

Anyway I guess I brought out the firing squad because I wanted a game that wasn't exactly the fucking same as the previous three iterations.

No, it's a quadriology of the same game.

that was my worry going in...all the trailers make a big deal out of using the Batmobile but I prefer to free climb, grapple hook and fly through the air as in previous games...looks like the Batmobile is just an option and not mandatory for most of the missions and that is what I want...or maybe I'll grow to love the Batmobile and will want to use it more...either way the fact that the game gives you the freedom to choose is what's most important

Game is available on PS4. I can get it tomorrow. Worth double dipping since I already own it on PC. Decisions.

No, it's a quadriology of the same game.

Origins existing and being like City has nothing to do with Rocksteady. Asylum, City, and Knight are a trilogy. There were enhancements to the game between Asylum and City. If you chose not to see them then well *shrugs*. We all make our ow buying decisions based on our own values.

Me personally, I only have time to devote to one, maybe two games at a time with my schedule, but being a Batman fan and this style of game in particular, it's a heavy hitter for me. There isn't really anything else they could have done to make this series vastly different enough, unless I'm missing something.

I thought about it and realized that in the past 10 years, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are 2 of the few games I've played to the end (starcraft installments, diablo single player, AC2)

Knowing that I enjoyed my time with those titles and my love for batman lore, I grabbed this and Origins which I haven't played either. I'm sure the 25 bucks will be well spent.

A couple of reviews are in (Gamespot/IGN) and the game is rated only ok (7/10).
The common complaint is how they constantly try to force the player to use the Batmobile...

PC Gamer mentioned that WB didn't send out PC review codes and hasn't said when PC reviewers will get them. Whether or not it means anything beyond WB being WB is debatable.

Well Arkham games don't exactly have a history of smooth releases on the PC.

the gameplay will be the same across the board from consoles to PC and that is getting near perfect reviews so I'm not worried plus PC review code is almost never sent out early anymore...the PC version will be better graphically so it should be fine (unless Nvidia GameWorks causes major performance issues like with Far Cry 4, AC: Unity, Lords of the Fallen etc)...

When has Nvidia Gameworks not created issues in 2014-2015? :D

This might be THE best looking game of all time. Holy shit.
Cant wait to blast through it at solid 60 with my new Fury.

I've never been impressed by still shots of the Batman games, but they animate and move very, very well. Kind of like GTA. I prefer that over lower framerates and great stills.

Agreed. The Batman games are also one of the very very few I'd say actually use PhysX well and the effects actually add to the game instead of being a distraction or simply being so minor it's not worth the the big FPS hit.

It's been proven over and over that better artist can make a game look better then fancy engines effects.

Indeed. Hell the original Bioshock still looks good and that was primarily a heavily customized UE2 with some UE3 stuff bolted onto the engine.

it's not about looking good...all the Arkham games look fantastic...but when someone says the best looking game of all time then it's different...all Unreal games seem to have the same basic visual qualities...it's easy to distinguish an Unreal game...seems to work better with grey/overcast/dark settings

There are some big exceptions to that "all" but for the most part I'd have to agree. The Arkham games look great but one look says "UE3".
