NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

In fact the slot is perfectly sized. I've tried adjusting the screws to their minimum and maximum, and even aim the drive at different angles. I wasn't able to get a disc to scrape the case panel when ejecting (M1v1).

This is good to hear!! :)

They had some quality problems for a while, but it's my understanding that those have been sorted out and it hasn't been an issue for a while.

I haven't heard any reports of any issues with the slot itself. Nevertheless, I did make it slightly wider as of v3, just to be on the safe side.

That is also good, where there every any plans releasing an official res?

Also seems like many are using the CPU block with a integrated pump, litt this cause issues with this since it's higher then the res?

Once the system is primed, it's not really an issue anymore. The general recommendation of a reservoir being higher than the pump is to prevent air from feeding into the pump, which should not happen unless you have a leak, or are filling the loop anyway.

It was a pain in the @ss to get the coolant flowing to both sides of the CPU block but now it works great.

There weren't. The FrozenQ res is as close as you'll get, considering it was specifically designed to fit on the rear mount of the M1. I've seen a few other builds using different reservoirs though.

Necere, can you give me all 4 panel dimensions in mm.
I know the thickness is 1.5mm aluminum construction, brushed and anodized exterior. But I couldn't find the panel dimensions anywhere. The reason I ask is because I want to get an estimate from a company on how much it would take to paint the exterior panel in white. Always wanted do have my case white. That's one of the reasons I want a new set of black panels. No back screw so it will look seamless. Don't know if anyone did this before but I assume the job needs to be professional since to much added thickness in paint and the panels won't fit in properly in the case.

I have a v3 and ordered an extra panel kit so I could change colors between black and silver if I wanted but now I'm really wanting to just have a second set of internals. Would it be possible to order the v4 internals only? Maybe you could add an option of "none" when selecting the panel color.

Email me, it really depends on what you need.

I do have one Version 3 chassis, where the panels were sent to a review website, so the chassis is left.

...So just to make sure, you'll not have that option available to purchase anytime soon?

I noticed on the website that the black panel set is still out of stock. Will you open orders for that yet or only after the v4 run?

Last question. if ordering the new fan bracket and the psu mount together will they be shipped together?

I'm just wondering if i should wait for the panel with no odd option becomes available to reduce shipping costs on my side.

I can *create a Panel Kit Without ODD Slot by using NO ODD Top Panel and regular Panel Kit.

If you are live in the United States, email me, I *may be able to accommodate this request in the near future. If you live outside of the United States, it will have to wait until later.

If you order the new Fan Bracket and SFX Bracket, they will ship in separate boxes but at the same time.

I'll wait, since right now you don't have the black panel kit available for order. Just don't forget about me. ;) Thank you

Will there be other colors offered for the panel kits with the v4s? Other than the silver/black

Got the notification for M1 V4 pre-orders today.

I had just purchased the V3 in May, but I can't give these guys my money fast enough lol :) Preordered the V4 steel bracket/magnetic filter, and threw in a black no-ODD top panel (it's back!)

Nature of the beast, but the shipping+handling came out to almost half of the total price for these parts... not complaining, just laughing.

Can't wait to get my new bracket and slot-less ODD top.

Seriously considered getting the silver panel kit to make a bigger order, but not this time. I might convince myself the silver panels warrant another full purchase, no sense just having the panels!

So been playing around with fan settings, and reading temps etc, trying to find a balance between idle, and when playing games, with the fans speeding up. I use Asus Suite wich seems to be working okay. Atleast on my cpu cooler. That spins at around 400 rpm, when just browsing etc, and its totaly silent. Set my WD black to spin down after 5 mins of use, so thats silent aswell, and set msi card to spin at around 25%, wich is silent aswell, when idle.

But my noctua 92mm pwm fan for the rear of the case, i cant seem to control fully. Its either 1400rmp or nothing. And at the 1400rpm its a bit to noisy. Would like it to be spining some, but still silent, just to help transport hot air away from the cpu, and the spin up a bit more when gaming, since i use headphones, when gaming anyway

Can anyone help me with that ? Since i cant see to control it well enough in Asus Suite

What motherboard are you using? I remember some asus motherboards not having full pwm control on some of the fan headers, only on the cpu header

Question. Having the V1 model, if I buy the no odd top panel and the new front panel from your shop they'll both be compatible with my side panels, right? That would be kinda like buying a new set, correct?
I think this option is cheaper, but also much much faster for me to have my new panels.

Have the steel fan brackets sold out already?
Yes. We may get more.

To date, has anyone bothered with trying a Noctua NH-U9S or NH-D9L in the case? I know several people have used the older U9B but I'm interested specifically in these two. Noctua rates these coolers identically in terms of thermal performance, and SPCR's review seems to corroborate this, with the D9L actually pulling ahead in some metrics (vrm cooling, dual fan setup, etc). Thing is, on top of that, the D9L (110m height) is 15mm shorter in height than the U9S (125mm), opening up the possibility of installing an intake fan on the bracket above it.

If no one has tackled this, I will likely acquire a D9L and secondary 92mm fan along with low profile ram to test out in the future and see how it fares compared to my C12P.

Does anybody have any data on the temp difference between a nvidia style reference cooler and for instance a msi twin frozr 4 cooler?

I read that the blower cooler is recommended, but I reeeeally don't care for the added noise...
I have a ref 980ti now but would like a aftermarket cooler thats quieter.

Damn I wasn't aware that they were already being sold with the poll just a few days ago. Oh well.
I should've had the poll up sooner, honestly. We thought we could add to the production order after we'd made it, but it was done more quickly than we expected and ordering more would entail a new MOQ. End result is we only had 30 fan brackets available, and about 90 people interested according to the poll results. Similar situation with the SFX bracket, but we have more of those (currently 53 left).

I was one of the lucky few to grab the first run on the SFX bracket, so that's karma balancing the equation :)

AMD Fury X video cards officially announced. I wonder if it can fit the M1?

AMD Fury X (water cooled) for $650
AMD Fury (air cooled) for $550
I think the performance gain + water cooling is easily worth the $100 price difference since overclocking will be easier.

Here's pics with different angles for Fury X.

I think it will be a definite no with my current set up since my ATX psu will block the air, even if it fits :(

I got no experince with the blower style cooler, but i do have the MSI 970 4g gaming. And the temps are pretty good id say, and its nice and silent ( i havent overclocked though )

I would think it'd fit. The pictures seems to suggest the reservoir is the depth of the fan + rad, but overall (I'm guessing, but still) it seems to be close to the same depth you'd experience with a traditional rad + fan combo.

EDIT: I of course mean fit with an SFX PSU in the standard orientation. Unless you feel like putting it over your CPU with an ATX PSU.

I just wonder what the PSU requirement of the dual Fury card will be. People are driving 295x2's with ~800watt psus. Maybe it will be possible to run the dual Fury card with that 700watt SFX-L.

There are bare card shots of it floating around. The dual Fury card is much shorter than the 295x2 and looks to be shorter than a 10.5" graphics card. It appears to be 9-9.5". Hopefully the retail board retains that length.

Ordered, to go along with my Version 1 ! Thanks Necere and wahaha360 for all of your hard work.

Got my hands on a FLIR camera, took a few shots of my build. :)
The temperature in the top left is for the center of the image.
3570K - U9B-SE2, Reference 980, Crucial Ballistix sport/ Tactical Tracer, P8Z77I-Deluxe, SX500-LG, 840/850 EVO's behind the front panel, Ncase V2.

:)

Let me know if anyone wants specific shots, I still have access to the FLIR camera, at least for the rest of the day.

Very nice! Thermal imagers are loads of fun :)

As a note for anyone looking at the thermograms, the heatsink isn't actually that much cooler than the other components, it's just that shiny metals (like the polished aluminum fins) reflect thermal energy so you're seeing the temperature of the room there.

Yes.

Thanks Necere and wahaha360 once more. I missed that first availabilçity for the fan bracket but got it now. And even went for the psu mounting just in case corsair changes the sf600 connector orientation.

Just ordered the following items from you guys.
Order Details:
M1 Accessories Select: Steel Fan Bracket With Magnetic Filter - Preorder (1) - $12.00
M1 Accessories Select: SFX Power Supply Mounting Bracket - Preorder (1) - $10.00
M1 Accessories Select: Panel Front - Black (1) - $18.00
M1 Accessories Select: Panel Top Without ODD Slot - Black (1) - $18.00

Seeing as both panels are available to purchase can I expect they will be shipped in days to come? And will they be shipped together?

Thank you

P.s. - Wahaha360, if further down the road you make the silver panel kit available with just the no odd top panel included I'll still get it.

Forgot to mention the heat reflecting bit, and you can see how true it is by looking at the side view vs the top down, it shows up much warmer where there isn't a sheet of metal reflecting. :)

The panels you ordered should ship sooner, yes. Everything is shipped separately because w360 doesn't trust TWPS not to screw up combining them.

Fan brackets are available again.
Thanks for the heads-up, I ordered one :)
Maybe give the announcement a bigger font an bright color soon if the preorders don't pickup fast enough ? How about mailing from ncases.com ? I think many people would happily receive mail when a new item is up for order or back in stock.

It seems more than logical after The Great V3 Mixup of '14, damn you irresponsible post office worker !

There might be another mixup.
Is there someone from Germany awaiting her/his case? You might get mine today. Its already loaded onto the delivery vehicle - yay!

I ordered the SFX bracket on the 13th and then ordered the steel fan bracket on the 15th. I don't mind the extra shipping costs but will they be shipped at the same time?

So I finally ordered all my parts to build in my V3 M1. I'm reusing my GTX 780 6gb ACX from my current build. I know non-reference aren't preferable for this case, I just didn't have enough saved up to buy the GTX 980 TI reference card. I was wondering if it was a good idea to have fans underneath the card to exhaust the heat? I was thinking of using two AP15's and a low rpm adapter to reduce noise. Will they fit underneath the ACX cooler?
