The Division - officially announced for PC!

Any post that can sneak in a Memento reference and rip on Ubi at the same time, should get a gold star

looks stunning!...best graphics I've ever seen on PC

did they change the gameplay from when they first revealed the game?...I thought it was more of an action, shoot-em-up type of game while now it looks like a survival/outbreak one...very ambitious...reminds me of when S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was first announced...the final version was stripped down and lost a lot of interesting aspects but it was still an amazing game

Watch dogs looked great too.............................................

yep

UBI Soft.

This will look like Super Mario Brothers 3 when released. MAYBE Super Mario World if we a lucky.

Is that a bad thing? :D Those are two of the better games that have ever been released.

WAS!!!WAS!!!! how dare you! :p

Nice pretend demo, even if it wasn't Ubisoft I just couldn't shake the feeling that the whole thing feels totally fake.

The Division is going to be some kinda co-op game? I'm weirdly disappointed.

We'll see at the end if they live up to their promises. They are being watched closely. :D

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/rumor-the-division-has-already-been-downgraded-visually/

Rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert… and rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert, rumor alert. And in case you did not get it, this is just a rumor so take everything you are about to read with a grain of salt.

Whatifgaming reported that The Division has already been downgraded visually. According to Whatifgaming, a source dev (whose identity cannot be revealed for obvious reasons) told them that the team has already took out ‘quite a lot of screen space reflections from the game’ and that the final product will not look as good as its E3 2013 reveal.

Here is the full email Whatifgaming received. As we’ve already said, take this with a grain of salt. Moreover, we don’t expect Ubisoft to confirm such a thing, even if this is legit information. As with Watch_Dogs, we’ll have to rely on what Ubisoft showed back in E3 2013 and we’ll compare the latest builds with that one in order to find out whether the game’s visuals are not up to what the French company showcased back then.

We really loved the reception to the demo we showed on the PC version at E3. Currently as it stands, there is definitely a lot of push coming from publishers to not make the experience so different on consoles as to alienate people into thinking that next generation is not as powerful as PC. This is probably what happened at Ubisoft Montreal. I think that while making stability changes is definitely important, it does not completely obliterate a lot of enhanced rendering applications.

Right now we already took out quite a lot of screen space reflections from the game and are working on asset management the best we can given consoles have that great unified memory. Naturally we will also be using online servers and have to produce a synchronization that higher graphics add to the latency so it had to be turned down. To me it still looks good, but not as good as the original reveal. I am sure as we get closer to launch and the actual console versions of the game featuring SD (Snowdrop) that it will start to seem all too obvious to people especially those on PCs. I just wanted to write and let you know that it definitely is not just stability but marketing politics plays into this a lot as well.

UPDATED 2nd Response from The Division Developer: Truth be told in regards to your question that while ‘Yes’ the lead platform is the PC, we simply cannot have such a big gap. As you know when the first WATCH DOGS Review was published by that one site, Ubisoft called it a “false review” and I am sure everyone can see how bad that sounded when they saw the game did look marginally better than something that was a last generation GTA IV. But no, they will not admit that they practice this or actively downgrade a game. It is much easier to say they removed things for stability which is often a lie as you can tell by the post-issues which are expected in any production we do.

Also to answer your 3rd question, no…they will never fully disclose what was removed from what build as no laws ask them to do so in terms of consumer rights. If we as developers published that information in very real terms for the consumer such as “Replaced particle fog simulation with 2d layer simulation in 3d space, removed particles from all explosions, lowered explosion volume multiplier by 20x, removed X # of trees and civilians, etc.” we would be out of a lot of sales and probably it would actually require too much time to deliver on the current hype that a lot of downgraded games see which look incredible with a vertical slice. I do share this in the hope’s that my colleagues and publishers and a lot of people who make false promises and do demonstrations which wrongfully create too much hype that they cannot deliver on ultimately stop doing such things. I want to see the industry actually move forward and not be so full of itself by promising too much and delivering too little. Regards

It remains to be seen whether Whatifgaming’s report is legit or not. As with Watch_Dogs, we’ll be sure as hell to compare various builds in order to find out whether the end product looks as good as the game’s E3 2013 reveal.

ROFL, Ubi has seriously dug themselves into a massive hole....even if this rumor proves to be unfounded I don't think anyone will ever take Ubi's trailers seriously again.

It fits with the WatchDogs stuff. It was said they wanted the graphic experience to be universal regardless of system. As I said in the WD thread, the only difference they probably allow for is resolution. Shaders/effects are probably universal across the platforms.

Essentially, it's "next-gen" consoles already holding back the PC platform and we're just about a year in. The last gen took some time for those consoles to be caught up with. Disappointing to say the least.

I called it a bit before the consoles even came out: this is going to be a very long and VERY painful gaming cycle for PC gamers.

Yea, "they wanted".....im sure sony or Microsoft had no pull in that decision.

I'm starting to see it as opposed to my optimistic idea of "Hey! The lowest common denominator bar is finally being raise and no more proprietary hardware excuses!"

They also said something about expecting more than 7 million sales, more than Farcry 4 did, which is..... mmmmok, whatever you say Ubisoft...
(Actually they said it for R6:Siege.... which is even more ???)

They need to stop announcing games when there is naught but a few pre-rendered cutscenes and then coming up with unrealistic release dates.

Totally okay with this. My expectations for this game are pretty high. And with all the bad publicity around Ubisoft lately they need this to be good.

Tom Clancy’s The Division beta sign-ups open

If you fancy signing up for the beta of Tom Clancy’s unusual action RPG thing, you can do so now over on The Division‘s website...the Xbox conference only really mentioned the Xbox One beta (coming in December), but it looks like you can sign up on PC too although you’ll probably get access a little bit after December...

The Division will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC simultaneously on March 8th 2016, Ubisoft announced at its E3 press conference...they also released a new multiplayer gameplay trailer which clearly doesn't look as amazing from a graphics standpoint as earlier videos...still looks really good but not the photorealistic graphics from earlier...

Yeap it got slapped with the big old console downgrade stick. *sigh* this looked incredible in 2013 and now in 2015 it looks "ok" and by 2016 it's going to be a downgrade visually to other games.

Those voice actors and the cheesy banter from two years ago is back. That girl just needs duct tape over her mouth. I know its for marketing and demonstration but its cringeworthy enough to be distracting.

Yeah definitely a trend in the last few years...

Any mention on what engine it's running? Parts of it remind me of Watch Dogs, for better or for worse (maybe it's just the urban environment). They've had some varying levels of success with Unreal engines (Splinter Cell games, Ghost Recon, etc.) but something isn't quite as Unreal-y about these videos. I could be wrong!

One of Ubi's various interchangeable internal engines. All of Ubi's big games might as well be on the same engine since they share bits and pieces across games. There probably is Watch_Dogs tech in there, along with stuff from Far Cry and Assassin's Creed.

This still looks awesome. The one thing that stands out to me is near beginning when they run into another team of online players...that was awesome. I mean, I'm sure it won't be as dramatic when we get our hands on it and that scenario plays out, but it'll still be damn awesome.

You can tell some of the fidelity is gone in terms of graphics based on the first gameplay video, but it still looks fantastic.

A good group of players will hopefully produce really good results like that. Of course I'd be the asshole that took the betray my team and take all the loot route.

I've been so cautiously optimistic about this game since it was announced. Brining in additional developer teams, delays, new game play with clear reduction in fidelity. Just gonna have to wait a few weeks after release to see how this shakes out. Not as excited as I was.

Cd Project does it so its okay.

No, its never okay. The difference is that at least The Witcher 3 is a great game in its own right that runs fantastically well on PC, whereas Ubi's games are for the most part half arsed recycled unoptimized trash.
