Doom

Ammo dropped off the human mobs in the originals. Humans dropped clips, Sergeants dropped shells, and Heavy Weapon Dudes dropped chainguns.

Huh. Forgot about that. It has been a damn long time though
Been thinking about playing through again with the Brutal Doom mod

Brutal doom is the best way to replay the classics. I was doubtful to try it, but damn if I didnt freak'n have a blast once I did.

Found this on the Doom sub on reddit and its awesome.

Nice! Yeah the sound design in the trailers is pretty lacking. Where's the music? All I hear is pretty bland electronic beats.

I like that they have an updated door opening sound, but they should have incorporated some other cues. I really miss the clack-clack-clack reload sound on the double barrel shotty.

Now wheres Quake 5 (or "Quake") reboot for 20 year (holy fuck?!) anniversary coming up in 2017??? And get Carmack back on board for that one.

Watched the gameplay video a second time. I think I'll get over the game not being horror orientated pretty fast as long as the action is fun and not boring and repetitive.

Was Doom even really about the gore. I mean, it was violent, but I always thought it was about horror. I am looking at this shit and it reminds me of a Saw movie.

Looks like someone at id is a fan of the movie Prometheus with that little 3d hell knight replay thing. Very similar to the holographic engineers in Prometheus.

Not graphically - in the sense that Doom 3 displayed very few monsters onscreen at once also. Unlike Doom 1/2, where we saw hoards of monsters onscreen at once.
Doom's opening level did not have hoards. They start slowly and build, this gameplay gives no indication as to other levels and quantities of enemies. If you want unlimited hoards I suggest serious sam.

Wishful thinking at best. Most e3 demos give highlights of what you expect out of the game. Hell they showed almost every demon type.
Doom1/2 was filled to brim with hoards of enemies though, inspired serious sam obviously.

I remember DooM being pretty gory (at least for its time). You'd come across guys impaled on spikes, hanging from chains (hooks?), enemies could be gibbed with certain weapons, etc.

The horror aspect was more or less a wall opening behind you and a swarm of Imps storming out.

I always thought it was about both really but gore was a definitely a feature. My favorite thing was always to get the humanoids to splat with the rocket launcher or barrels, that was so satisfying.

Like most good games it's not "about" one thing but many, gore being the most controversial of them. It was also about horror, fast paced action, realistic rendering/lighting (for the time), religion/satanism, distribution, and oh... a little thing called MODS that really blew it all to the roof.

Yar, I think modding was the true lifeblood to its longevity. I remember installing (or at attempting to) new WADS, total conversions, etc. I'm really excited how it appears Bethesda is trying to bring modding to the mainstream (consoles and PCers alike) with their built-in tools.

I can remember buying a CDROM full of Doom wad files back in the day. I have the complete ID collection on Steam but playing the old Doom now just doesn't do it for me anymore. Need this new Doom.

Still waiting on that solid remake of Quake 2.

I'll sell my fucking family up the river for this.

There's the full D3D9 overhaul that a group did called Berzerker. I played through Q2 with this mod and it was freaking amazing. Still one of my favorite OldSchool FPS. looks pretty awesome.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't heard of the mod and I loved Q2.

This new DOOM is IMO a boring looking FPS the trailer and gameplay shown just didn't impress me, so i've already lowered my excitement level to " I'll get it when the game goes on steam sale ". Until then https://youtu.be/oSzYliSASKc will give me my DOOM crack fix.

Anita I love you your the best at everything she makes music explain why Tropes are bad even a class act like Cat Women.

What do I think?

So according to her there is a certain level of violence that should be acceptable in life? Is that it? I think no violence should be acceptable outside the bounds of fiction. And while there is legalized violence going on all over the world what the hell is she wasting time on videogame violence? Go fight against wars.

And what is normal? That word can have a thousand different meanings for a thousand different people.

Graphics are good but it seems like the gameplay would get boring pretty fast. The chainsaw part was pretty awesome, but just the way they revealed it tells me it's going to get old fast. It's a common theme with showcases like this - show something really badass, and then it becomes stale really quickly.

She's right, it's not normal, it's fantasy.
