No AMD 300-series review samples?

Pulling this from the 300-series rumor thread as I think it deserves more attention.
Reps from LegitReviews & PCPer seem quite bitter today about Red Team Plus.

tldr:
AMD Red Team Plus is a group of active social media users who promote AMD hardware. Right now they are having a meetup in Austin, TX @ AMD offices.
Supposedly, AMD is giving away new 300-series (and possibly Fury) cards to RTP members to promote via social media.

...Any other guesses what they are complaining about specifically?

I don't really see what a company giving free products to their community advocate team has to do with review sites or the media.

I like Ryan and I read their site from time to time, but AMD had this meet and greet planned for RTP a long time. If they are choosing to shut out the media from new products, I don't think RTP has anything to do with that.

No idea. I thought Red Team got them in advance anyways as that is the purpose of Red Team.

I guess he could be mad that RTP gets them before reviewers do, as opposed to not at all. Seems like they're going a bit overboard, though.
Perhaps they don't have the cards long enough to prepare reviews for launch day.

That's just their viral marketing army. Since the 300 series is nothing new, they may feel actual websites will grill them over this amount of rebadging. While their rewarded fanbase will go forth and preach the gospel.

This may be the first time you're right about something.
But maybe jumping the gun a bit.

I have never read a Team Red review before to be honest. Not sure what the controversy is. All I see them do is build computers and take pictures of them. Then they post them to Twitter and social media websites. Maybe go to trade shows and take pictures of AMD gear.

I don't think this is AMD replacing reviewers. :)

It's looking to me like the 300 series is a straight rebrand. I still hope that isn't the case, but I also don't think these guys would be posting negative comments about AMD if there wasn't a shred of truth to the rebrand rumors. That way they can say they were "right"

Keith (@jackalopeater) writes some articles and YouTube videos but they aren't really reviews, just discussion of different AMD technology.

Most of the AMDRTP guys and girls are gamers and they focus on community involvement in gaming, not reviewing hardware.

If they were concerned, they can go into Best Buy and buy a card right now.

Well I'm sure that I have seen Nvidia viral marketing team members hanging around certain websites *cough cough* hyping up every launch also. So AMD invested some plane tickets and free hardware into doing the same thing. Not a big deal to me.

I'm still struggling to understand why this is upsetting to some people. AMDRTP has been around for a year and a half.

I don't know about LegitReviews, but PCP has a very strong relationship with Nvidia. I don't find Ryan being upset about this all that surprising, or really looking out for our best interests.

I'd be amazed if AMD actually had cards in retail channels on the 16th, available for purchase.

They are trying to trick people into thinking these are new cards. So they don't want the truth to be so obvious.

Seriously, for the first time, in my time here, I semi agree with him but then, there's this.

So that kinda killed it for me, oh well, maybe next thread.

AMD has cards in retail channels right now...

I was a member of AMD RTP for 6 months, if you guys have any questions, I'm happy to help clear up who they are and what they do.

Disclaimer: I don't have a Fury sample nor do I know anything more about the cards than what is already public knowledge on the internet.

Best Buy has them under lock and key right now. Pictures of the new cards arriving is trending right now on Reddit. Tainted_Squirrel has been linking some information in the AMD section under the 390 thread if you want to take a look see. Keep it civil as we've only argued over ketchup, mustard, and hot dogs so far. :)

The only thing I am curious about is whether the new cards have GCN 1.2 features or beyond. Oh and the pricing of the Fury series. That would be nice to know, but I can wait for the 16th like a trooper. :)

Just remember folks, those 2 websites were the ones who started the FCAT program Nvidia gave them to check AMD's frame pacing issue, which they had a HUGE problem with.

AMD Corrected the issue with the frame pacing drivers, and using XDMA for the 290/290x video cards.

As soon as the 980/970 GTX cards released, they just happened to stop using FCAT....Why? Because FCAT was showing major frame pacing problems in games with 980/970 in SLI, while the 290x/290 were just fine (not in all the games).

So I can understand why AMD would leave them out. They have an "agenda".

Also remember that they got free gifts from Nvidia and have been to numerous Nvidia events that Nvidia paid for them to come.

You want Un-biased reviews? Look no further then [H]ardocp. Where Kyle pulls no punches, and tells it how it is.

Now AMD was guilty with horrible stuttering before FCAT showed the issue....But they fixed it with drivers, and hardware.

You guys know that Nvidia has a Twitch streaming partnership program. Look under this guy's stream in the information section to see what I'm talking about. I don't see where that is any different from the AMD Red Team. It's nice to see AMD copying Nvidia in trying to get their products on social media.

Team Nvidia even has a streaming schedule. Again look under the stream to see.
http://www.twitch.tv/nvidia

I don't see what the big deal is for AMD to do a little of the same.

Again, It's called an "Agenda"

Yes, when you enter a Twitch Team Green chat and ask what is a good video card to get the streamer will break their backs to say Nvidia model XXX. AMD sucks. Buy Nvidia only as they are the only game in town! I personally don't care that they do that. I would assume that they are getting some type of rewards for doing so. I know to do my homework before I purchase something as expensive as a video card.

If I were AMD and I knew certain sites were going to trash on my products due to their brand allegiance to my competition, like hell I am going to send them my stuff. Pcper and legitreviews are about as unbiased as FoxNews or CNN. It is about time AMD stood up to shoddy journalism and reviews.

Then again name an industry where companies do not try to lobby reviewers or other affiliates into their brand because I can't think of any. I see this all the time in my line of work, companies always willing to buy you dinner/lunch or send you to training courses to learn to use their products.

i just bought some boarshead franks and some mustard pickle relish for lunch tomorrow...

well, there is mustard in the pickel relish, but normally im a dijon guyat home, yellow at the ballpark.

heinz ketchup, there is no other brand.

Ill probably do my 1st one with just the mustard relish, and add Dijon if it inst spicy enough on the 2nd.

What do they need a review sample for?

Just take the 290 reviews and do a global search and replace: s/290/390/g

I keeeeed, I kid!

I don't really see what a company giving free products to their community advocate team has to do with review sites or the media.

What's on trial here is:

"In the past when traditional hardware reviewers aren’t given a product with enough time to properly test it before launch, there is usually a reason"

All the Nvidia mouthpieces are complaining... how cute.

Amazing that other sites aren't going into meltdown mode over waiting a few more days...

Media & press do not have samples just yet. Next week there will be an event about Series 300 among others and hopefully somewhere next week the sample should be here as well.

The announcement date is E3 the 16th during the announced livestream and later that'll be followed by the reviews. I can't share that date though.
