One of the few remaining original Steve Wozniak hand built Apple 1 computers was dropped off at a Silicon Valley recycling center back in April in a box of computer parts. The box of parts was a part of a garage cleanout, but luckily the recycler spotted the Apple 1 for what it was and eventually put it up for auction. The computer brought in a cool $200K. The drop off person’s identity is still unknown, but a check for half of the auction’s proceeds is still waiting to be claimed. Thanks to Forum Administrator Crosshairs for the linkage.

“We thought it was fake. It was real,” CleanBayArea Vice president Victor Gichun told NBC news. He said he remembers what the donor looked like and all she had to do is show up.

This will be my last post as the Weekend News Editor for the Front Page, it's been an honor to serve.

Goodbye and Thanks for All the Fish

Hi All

Sorry that you're leaving. I wish nothing but success for you.

Sorry to see you go. All the good news will go to the wayside. Now, we just have to look at Steve posts.... :p

Bye MDomo! Thank you for my first and hopefully last infraction ever! Wish you luck is everything you do from now!

Very cool story. Thanks for the weekend news.

Anyone know where he's off to? Permanently leaving H, or?

For all you goobers on ebay, goodwill, or gamestop, I remember local warehouse clubs like Costco having giant cardboard boxes with sega genesis (back in the day for 5 dollars) games and such. I hate to say it, but unless it is off the moon landing, vintage electronics... I just don't see the appeal...

I'm not leaving the [H], just returning to a full-time status as an Administrator and Moderator. I'm leaving the News because over five years of working every weekend becomes tedious especially when I have a full-time job during the week. I'm sure Kyle and Steve will find a capable replacement for the weekend duties.

good luck MajorDomo!...why are you leaving?

Thanks for the clarification and I completely understand your point. Being connected 24x7 forever isn't good.

Ahh, solid. Makes complete sense. It's tough to juggle so many things (all to familiar with it myself), and eventually you want to tackle other things.

That's cool that they're saving half. Technically, I don't believe they have to do that.

hey, can I get an infraction before you go, you know, for old times' sake?

Thanks Domo. Weekend news is always the pits because business week and such so you did a good job with what you were given.

Colbert, Stewart, Letterman, and now Domo all moving on. Who is next?

Glad to know you'll still be sticking around. Thanks for all the hard work you've put in.

Thanks for the news stories, i always loved the fact the [H] Front page news never rest.

Not sure how it works there but here in Sweden the recycle stations are owned by the city and the city owns anything dropped off there. An employee who takes something from there is like an employee steeling from work.

Wow, that's cool. I would have never guessed that they would be worth so much.

Thanks for your time and efforts, Major!

The recycling center kept half, employees aren't allowed to take from recycling centers, goodwill, or waste management in the US either. Doesn't stop them from doing so but that's not the case here. Also cool of the center to save half for the person who unknowingly dropped off a piece of history.
