GOG Refusing To Distribute Hatred?

I don't see what the big deal is with this game. Either people are going to buy it or they aren't. Refusing to sell it only makes people want to buy it more. Am I right?

Digital download service GOG has decided not to sell controversial shooter Hatred, according to the developers at Destructive Creations. "Hatred will not be available on GOG.com, even though gamers widely expected this to happen, because of GOG’s refusal to distribute the game," the developer said in a press release.

I don't understand why people think they have a right to dictate what a store can or cannot sell. It's completely up to the store if they want to sell a product. IMHO the developer just wants to make some kind of a big deal out of this to try to generate some controversy and sales.

I don't want to buy it more. Your logic is true for 13 year olds and those who never mentally progressed past that age, though.
^This
But we are probably not the targeted demographic. I want quality games. For quantity I play L4D/L4D2, for the 13 yo inside of me.

I haven't seen a game this controversial since Postal. Looks like I'll be buying this one, thanks media!

Won't sell Hatred but have no problem selling Postal Classic Uncut and Postal 2...?

Forget this stupid game. What we need is a new Star Trek game, a proper one for single players, not the Star Trek online stuff. The last really good Star Trek game was Star Trek: Bridge Commander.

Bullseye.

as long as we are just pissing inthe wind...I want a new twisted metal game. how about a reboot of NOLF too? that was fun.

I wouldn't mind another Armada game or one similar to Legacy. The Trek universe is perfect for RTS/RTT style games.

This is as much a "freedom" issue as "free speech" on this forum--that is, it isn't.

The government never said there was a standard or reason (which is what the First Amendment, woefully abused on the internet, actually deals with) that this game cannot be sold. GoG chose to not distribute it.

Should Christian bookshops be forced to stock hardcore gay porn? Should Chevy be forced to also sell Ford cars?

That's about the level of "logic" used by the "freedom" argument--it's a free market, in which GoG is free to not sell this game.

Steam got this right. Rather than dictate to the customers what they should buy, Gaben put the game on Steam and allowed the customer to decide if they want to buy it.

I'm not interested in Hatred, but I'll be avoiding GOG because of this poor decision.

You're quite literally comparing apples to oranges. Hatred is rated M not AO. What's the difference between stocking a game like Witcher 3 which is M and includes nudity and graphic violence versus a game like Hatred which is also rated M and contains graphic violence?

To be fair there were similar reactions to Wolfenstein 3D and Doom when they appeared. Of course those turned out to be pretty awesome games as well, something Hatred has yet to prove.

Your response has nothing to do with what he was saying. You've ignored the statement that stores can sell what they want.

It doesn't MATTER what the difference is because freedom of speech and expression mean that the GOVERNMENT can't stop the sale of this game. They have absolutely nothing to do with corporations.

There are lots of games that I like that aren't/weren't sold by lots of corporations that sell games. Should I be getting in touch with those corporations to let them know that the Constitution of the US demands that they carry every product on the market?

Stop being ridiculous.

If you believe in Capitalism and want this game then go spend your money at a company that is willing to sell you this game. That is the only option you have. Whining about it is only going to make you look dumb. Unfortunately that damage has already been done. You should abort mission before you make it even worse.

Rofl you literally completely side stepped my point. Please don't try to start an argument if you can't even submit a proper counterpoint.

The point is that GOG can sell whatever it wants and nobody gives a shit if you want to argue about it.

You need to take some aspirin sir, you seem to have a lot of Hatred towards this game. :p

I like to make valid arguments but no one can think straight enough to counter them with me :(

If you haven't, do check out the Star Trek Armada 3 mod for Sins of a Solar Empire. Easily the best trek game ever IMO!

Sorry NickJames, but you simply have no valid argument here. GOG can sell what they want. It could be My Little Ponies Adventure Time rated E... if the owner doesn't want it on the site then it doesn't go there. Simple stuff here, folks...

I'd say it's a fine line to cross. Why this game? Is it because of the negative publicity surrounding it? Are they doing it based on moral and ethic grounds? They are literally doing this to prevent bad PR for a game that's no more violent than any other title they sell. What's to stop feminists from protesting video games sales of future Witcher titles in the future because of all the sex? It's bad enough Target stopped the sale of GTA5 in Australia, what's next? We shouldn't cater towards the minority just because they yell louder.

It's not your business so it's not your decision. /thread

I don't tell you how to run your business, so don't tell others how to run theirs.

Lol some of you people are hilarious. Straight up nothing but hate and anger in here. The ones so against it are the ones who definitely shouldn't be playing it :p

Probably true. So what?

What's to stop feminists from protesting video games sales of future Witcher titles in the future because of all the sex?

Nothing, happens all the time.

I hear ya, but historically these things just take time. In 10 years we may look back at Hatred and say "eh, how silly we were to make such a fuss over this cartoony-looking game!"

Where? I only see you making this assumption.

I've never been part of an argument where everyone is trying to end it without even starting it. All I see is a bunch of /thread, stop being ridiculous, you make yourself look dumb, ALL CAPS, type of comments in here. It's not hard to tell when someone is being angry over the internet.

Oh, I think they are angry/annoyed with you, not the game.

The same thing happened with Postal, it ended up being a funny game that I played once and then paid no attention to it. I just think the minority is being too vocal about a game which is creating nothing but good PR at this point when you look at it. The only type of people who buy these games are the ones interested in it. In the end all you end up with is the Barbra Streisand effect. I don't really care if a certain store doesn't carry the game. I just like to know what they base their decision on and how their stance will effect future video game titles. A lot of this seems pretty hypocritical in my opinion.

Cocaine with blow up dolls of Streisand, then maybe NickJames will approve!? :p

Yea, I agree. Tom Petty is a problem... sorry, all this talk about hatred gets me in a silly mood :D
