It looks as though FSP, a company best known for its power supplies, is launching a line of portable energy storage systems today.

EMERGY 3000 Series are All-in-One System that integrate Li-Ion Battery System, Battery Management System, AC charger, Photovoltaic (PV) charger, DC to AC inverter & System Control, and can be used as a battery back-up power system, an on-line UPS, or be integrated as a battery power subsystem in a modem home energy grid.

This is perfect for the people who used to bring their desktops to Starbucks.

"No wall outlet? No problem. I brought my own."

Will TSA let us carry that on-board?
Nope.

Lithium ion batteries (a.k.a.: rechargeable lithium, lithium polymer, LIPO, secondary lithium). Passengers may carry all consumer-sized lithium ion batteries (up to 100 watt hours per battery). This size covers AA, AAA, cell phone, PDA, camera, camcorder, handheld game, tablet, portable drill, and standard laptop computer batteries. The watt hours (Wh) rating is marked on newer lithium ion batteries and is explained in #3 below. External chargers are also considered to be a battery.

Passengers can also bring two (2) larger lithium ion batteries (100-160 watt hours per battery) in their carry-on. This size covers the largest aftermarket extended-life laptop batteries and most lithium ion batteries for professional-grade audio/visual equipment. Most lithium ion batteries for consumer electronics are below this size.

Can I put a couple of these in the back seat of an electric car to extend the range?
Maybe charge the car off this box while I'm driving :)

Will TSA let us carry that on-board?

You read my mind! I was just thinking that is basically a rolling bomb and no way TSA would let you on the plane with it.

Now checked luggage? Sure. Those guys don't give a fuck about anything. You could have a live unicorn in a cage and they'd check it.

So they basically crammed a bunch of batteries into a suitcase and attached a charger to it and an inverter with a plug?
