ASUS X99 Motherboard Series - Official Support Thread

Hello

Intel updated the USB specs coinciding with the launch of the 97 chipsets and all chipsets after. Most USB issues are because of the connected device not being compatible with these latest specs which is why the same issue would not be seen on the X79 platform.

it's not an intel problem, it's an asus bugs, all x99 deluxe has two dead ports that sometimes return to life.

It was suggested I post this question here from my thread in the Intel Processors section:

"I was curious what everyone's take is on max voltage for the 5960x. Currently sitting at 1.3V, which most review sites seemed to use, at 4.5 Ghz and 60C max temps. I've seen on a ROG site they suggested 1.35-1.4V is ok on water. Some random posts up to 1.45V. And Dan_D's "beat the piss out of" Intel's CPUs and never had one fail, seemed to suggest the built in fail safes do a good job.

I'd like it to last a few years, perhaps 3-4, but will have it on a chilled water loop (so 60C should become 40C). I feel like 1.35V is ok, 1.4V probably pushing it. I've been having a tough time finding concrete data on this. [H] your thoughts?"

I don't use more than 1.30V on the 5960X. Have seen two degrade when pushed with stress tests even around that voltage.

You will never find "concrete data" on these things - there is variance and most results come in from non-controlled test environments. Logic tells us not to exceed more than 2X the current the die was rated at. Usually don't see fast degradation on lots of processors if sticking below that threshold.

People with the VIA USB hub chip "812"

i went to ankers web site and they have a firmware update tool which updated my anker hub to firmware 8584

http://www.ianker.com/support/68UNHUB-B7U

i believe it is a VIA tool so you can use it on any hub that has that chipset. it updates very fast.

dont use the "lowpower" bin just use the one that is already in the bin folder after installation (contrary to their instructions)

i only rebooted twice, but it worked both times with the hub plugged in, and before it would only work very rarely.

Thanks DeFex. These firmware updates are needed for xHCI compliancy I suspect. Might be a lot of hubs affected by this.

It has booted fine with the hub attached several more times since i did the VIA firmware update. I think it is fixed!

With 1601 I had a regression in stability,
since november I never experienced a crash or freeze with my really low overclock, yesterday I got a system freeze while surfind the web.

Corsair LPX 2800MHz @ 2666MHz 15-15-15-32-1T
5930K @4.2GHz 0.060V+1.220V = 1.280V
VCCIN 1.92V with LLC7

I add that the latest 1702 BIOS for X99 Deluxe scrambled the q-fan tuning completely.
In Q-FAN I cannot select temperature over 58°C.

My PWM fans can be managed correctly by entering manual setting without using qfan graphic utility, before 1702 this utility worked flawlessy.
My DC fans cannot be managed anymore, I cannot enter a duty cycle under 97%, this means that my fans spins at a minimum of 97%.

As usual, Asus fix one thing and broke two things.

Specifically, which two ports?

I am thinking of getting an ASUS X99 Deluxe and therefore interested in this as well.
Would the USB ports in question be the ones circled in yellow in the following photo?

yes are that one and they doesn't work as intended, think that you will not be able to use them.

I found a Youtube video by a guy called Reckless Yuki. He’s had difficulties with his ASUS X99 Deluxe as well. He went through many trials with ASUS support and finally stumbled upon the problem himself.

He had a keyboard, mouse, and USB interfaces for his audio system and also his headset. When he unplugged the audio system and headset USB devices, the system booted fine. So, he went into the BIOS and made sure fast boot was on so that he could “disable the USB drives when it’s booting up… and it’s been working perfectly fine ever since,” (his words). Since I do not have access to an ASUS UEFI/BIOS, I don't know exactly how he's accomplishing this... or even if it's a good idea since his keyboard and mouse are USB devices and wouldn't he need access to either/both of these occasionally prior to fully booting up the system?

Check out the video for further details:

Question maybe already answered in this thread but won't read 19 pages of it.

Can someone with ASUS X99 Deluxe tell me which jumpers to set to make the board overclock. Currently, I am unable to overclock since board defaults to XMP profile with 125 cpu strap irrespective of what I set it to (goes back to these settings after reboot).

Set the XMP switch to disabled. The motherboard manual will show you the location of onboard switches

Just started working on my new X99-E WS rig with 64GB DDR4 RAM and i7-5960x CPU.

Whatever I do, the MB only recognizes 48GB of the RAM. However, when I run CPU-Z it gets all the 8 RAM modules, each with correct details! So it is the MB that cannot see the all 64GB for some reason.

A search around the web shows that many people have experienced similar problems with the X99 series from Asus and 64GB RAM, but there's no clear solution for that issue as far as I can see.

Needless to mention, I've gone thorough every possible action, including a full test of the individual memory banks, also with Memtest86+, and all of those are just fine. It's not a faulty RAM.

The memory in question is G.Skill 64GB complete kit, F4-2800C15Q2-64GRK, and I've tried both the XMP BIOS setting (at 2800) and using the default 2133 frequency (enabling OC settings in the BIOS), without any difference. Still only 48GB are recognized.

None 64GB memory kits are listed on Asus' QVL list at all, but exactly this model is listed as compatible in its 32GB variant, so this is as good as we get as long you want to use 64GB which ARE SUPPORTED according to Asus (actually up to 128GB RAM are supported in the Asus documentation.)

I've checked the CPU at it doesn't indicate any problems. I read that other people having this particular problem ended up with RMAing the board, but I kinda doubt it that the board is faulty (everything else seems to work), and I rather believe that this is a BIOS related configuration issue. I'm running the latest BIOS 1102 by the way.

Any suggestions?

PROBLEM SOLVED!

HARD RESEATING OF EACH RAM MODULE REPEATEDLY DID THE TRICK! Thanks a lot to "rbbunmc" at Overclock.net who tipped me about that particular solution!

Btw he uses the exact same memory kit (F4-2800C15Q2-64GRK) so now we know that it works on X99-E WS board.

See his post about this issue here:

no way to fix this problem, every X99 Deluxe are defective on that ports.

I don't know if the ASUS guy still reads this thread but I figured I'd post just in case.

I can't update my BIOS. No matter if I try from within windows, or use the EZ Flash2 utility with a fat32 flash drive in the Flashback port or any port or that matter it keeps saying the bios file is not valid.

When using EZ Flash from bios it always says Selected file is not a proper bios.

When I try to flash using the Flash utility in AI Suite III it says The model of the bios image doesn't match the bios rom currently present.

I don't know what to do. I'm hoping a bios revision will fix my ram problem.

Specs: Asus X99-PRO/USB3.1 Rev 1.xx
Intel 750 SSD
i7 5820K CPU
8X4GB G.Skill Ripjaw 4 3000Mhz DDR4 kit
Asus GTX 970 Strix

And you are sure you downloaded the correct BIOS for your board and you didn't just downloaded the BIOS for Z97 Pro/USB3.1? And don't use the Motherboard Auto Detection option because I've found many times that it gets me to the wrong motherboard model. Choose it manually instead and you will get to the correct motherboard model.

I had the right BIOS however, there is no renamer utility for it so I was changing the name of the file to X99P ... well my motherboard is the USB3.1 version so it would only accept a X99PU31.CAP file.

I only found out because I went into the AI Suite III's bios flash utility and noticed the file name in the top half of the window. I would still be soul searching had I not seen that :)

I have managed to flash the bios now and after reseating my ram in order, I'm humming along at 32GB @ 3000Mhz

CPU is doing 3.625Ghz @ 79C under 100% load

I recently put together this build, and I noticed there are some strange temperature readings from the motherboard, particularly one that is very high. I'm using Asus X99-A

This reading was taken using hwinfo, but open hardwaremonitor is showing the same figures too.
Bvt6TI7.jpg

Is this simply an error in the reading? I've done several hours of Prime95, few runs of Memtest86, and some gaming just to test the system stability, and so far I've not encountered any issues. I took a close look at the motherboard and I can't see any visible damage, or if there's any heatsink that isn't attached properly.

I'm just concern by this couple of high temps reading, the one above 60C and this 90c. Anyone knows what these components may be?

Thanks

When using the Motherboard Auto Detect option, it always gets me to the regular Z97 Deluxe model when mine is the Z97 Deluxe / USB3.1 model. In my case if I'm not careful and just go ahead accept what it gives me, I'd be downloading the wrong BIOS. Glad you were able to sort it out.

Hello

The proper syntex for renaming the BIOS file can always be found in the included user manual for all ASUS motherboards.

Hello

This is most likely an erroneous reading. However you may wish to ask the author oif the utility you are using.

So, I just bought the X-99 along with some other high-end stuff last week (as can be seen in my signature) and everything is working fine apart from the SSD (which is not listed - a Transcend MTS600 SATA III M.2).

As it turns out, the SSD I bought isn't compatible with the MB - it requires PCIe, not SATA drives. After extensive research & customer care calls/chats/complaints with ASUS, it appears that, according to ASUS, the motherboard has been tested to be compatible with only 6 items:

Liteon (LJT-128B1P-2260-128GB)
Plextor (PX-G128M6E)
Sandisk (SD6PP4M-128G and SD6PP4M-256G)
Samsung (XP941 MZ-HPU128T and XP941 MZ-U512T)

I've searched high and low for those items but was only able to verify the existence of 2 of them: the Plextor and the 512GB Samsung. The Plextor is too small for my liking and the Samsung is an OEM and therefore, according to their customer care, would not qualify for tech support, warranty or any form of support by them.

So, now, I turn to the experts, i.e. the users, not Raja coz I'm pretty sure he'll just simply disregard this post like so many others he has in this thread and, if by some miracle he does respond, he won't have anything else to add from an official ASUS perspective.

I need a SSD that is proven to work with X-99 so I can finally get to use the system. It's in cryogenic stassis until I get the SSD since I would like to put the OS on it - no point of putting Windows on the HDD only to undo it all when the SSD gets here.

P.S. I'm sorry if this concern has already been addressed in this thread (or elsewhere). I'm guilty of not spending hours to go through every post :p

P.P.S. ASUS has one of the worst customer care departments that I have ever seen in over 3 decades of technology exposure/interaction. Shape up!

Sincerely,
An extremely disgruntled ASUS customer

Hello

All ASUS X99 motherboard specifications clearly state that the M.2 slot supports PCIe drives only. The Plextor M.2 drive is available up to 512GB in size and works fine with the boards. The Intel 750 AIC is also an option as is the 750 U.2 but there may be some configuration constraints with the U.2 drive depending on the motherboard and PCIe devices being used. Which by the way is unknown because as I type this nothing appears in your signature.

Thanks for the info. Yes, that was entirely my mistake not to thoroughly examine/research that part.

RE: My signature; I don't know why it's not showing. I've skimmed through the settings thinking that was some kind of signature activation option I needed to do but couldn't find anything. When I click on my name, then on the 'About Me' tab, the signature appears just fine. Idk... Hope it works now.

That's an OEM though. I wouldn't get any kind of Samsung support for it. Unless I get some overwhelming opposition to that non-OEM Samsung by tomorrow morning, I'll go ahead and get it.
Hello

Both the 941 and 951 are considered OEM by Samsung.

So the 941 I linked earlier is an OEM? It doesn't say so in the item title. I have sent a question to the seller asking them and hopefully I'll hear back from them soon (EDIT: they answered back saying it's not).

In the case that they're all OEM, what would the consensus be in here about which to go with? Should I go with an OEM and bite the bullet if and when something happens, or should I just go for the slower (read/write) speed of the Plextor? If anyone in here does have an X-99, what SSD, if any, do you have?

Both samsung drives are oem, eventhough the company selling them is saying they're not.

If you're worried about reliability/support, I'd go a "classic" ssd running on a sata interface ( like samsung 850 Pro/850 Evo ). The benches will be lower, but it won't make a difference in real world applications unless you're doing video editing/very intense IO applications.

In a year or so, newer M.2 ssd with nvme will be available. You can upgrade then. That's what I plan to do anyways in my case.

Does the setup HAVE to be the M.2 drive? I just did an x99 build with the Intel 750 PCIe deive and I followed the guides to prepare the NvMe drivers ahead of time on my flash drive and everything went smoothly.

I had ideas to do the same thing you want to ... i.e. booting/OS only from the M.2 and using the Intel 750 for game and video encoding but when I saw the price difference between the PCIe 3.0 M.2 drives and the SSD3 or even PCIe 2.0 drives it coolered that a little.

I might still do it but when the sticker shock goes down a bit in a few months.

P.S. I sent an e-mail during my setup to Asus and although I had already resolved my issue on my own they did respond within 1 business day.

I've called Samsung and they confirmed that the one I found on Amazon cannot be non-OEM. They reiterated what you're saying that all XP941 drives are OEM :(

I'm only worried about the off-chance that something would go wrong with the OEM SSD down the road and I would end up getting stuck with it, not being able to get any support for it. According to ASUS, the X-99 does not accept SATA SSDs - I've proven this myself as the initial SSD I bought is a SATA and it doesn't even recognized by BIOS or Windows. Also, ASUS just confirmed that Samsung drives will not work as OS drives due to their architecture being non-PCIe.

I just got off the phone with ASUS and they said that, as long as the SSD checks all the boxes (M key, PCIe, etc.), it should theoretically work. Bummed not be using the Samsung though: they seem to be the fastest out there.

EDIT: Is this the new NvMe drive you speak of, Escape? Would that work on the X99 as an OS drive?
EDIT: Now that's what I call Customer support: Intel rocks. They certainly know their stuff and know how to take care of and handle their customers. Sign me up! *Buys one*

You must have done something wrong because I have a regular sata SSD on my X99-A and it works fine.

The samsung and intel nvme drives should work providing you update your bios ( version 1601 and up ). The initial bios did not support nvme drives

It might work on the X99-A but mine is a deluxe and both ASUS and experience have both confirmed that SATA SSDs (HDDs are fine ofc) will NOT work with the X99-Deluxe.

How do I update the BIOS if I don't have Windows installed yet?
