Official Deus Ex: Human Revolution thread

I would love to upgrade but I hate that I'll love my current save. I'm curious to see how big an improvement the graphics tweaks are.

I have Deus Ex regular edition, Deus Ex Director's Cut, and Deus Ex Missing Link in my Steam library. So the saves are different.

I never made it very far into the original version of HR, but I completed the Director's Cut a couple weeks ago. I generally found the pistols + laser sight to be a bit overpowered. You don't even need all of the upgrades for damage/aim when headshots instakill most enemies. Ammo tends to be plentiful and they don't take up much room in your inventor either.
Plus, their range is deceptively long. It reminds me of Half-Life 2 where the pistol is magically more accurate and powerful than everything else. If you're not afraid to be lethal, skip the other weapons and just stick to the 10mm and revolver.
I went stealthy for certain missions, but I generally just didn't find it to be as much fun.

I didnt even know there was a DC.. I may have to pick that up. Never finished the original, and lost my game save... but always wanted to finish this game.

A third party hd-retexture would be nice (like how someone did for mass effect).

I will wait til i finish Thief =)

I bought the original for full price at release, and then got this for $5 on sale a year or so ago during a sale. I recently started playing the DC version, but put it on hold to play Wolfenstein. Will go back to it, and finish it up when I'm done. It's definitely a good deal for that much, and worth a few plays.

$5 is a steal, although I still think the DC version is a bit of a technical mess.
If I were to push a new player toward DX:HR I'd tell them to buy the vanilla version of the game and the DLC separately.

Isn't the big thing with the DC that the boss fights are fixed? I know thats one thing that got a lot of backlash about the vanilla version. I'm not far enough along in the campaign to know the difference.

I only got far enough into the DC to see the first boss fight, but yes--it was a lot better.

Yeah, I forgot about the boss fights. I played the game like a stealth Rambo anyway, so I didn't notice :p

just finished this last night. Should I wait for the revision mod to come out for the original game, or just start playing it now?

How much better is the original?

I own and played through both versions multiple times (PC). Love this game. With all the next-gen games coming out it does look dated, but the gameplay is solid. My favorite playthrough was my non-lethal / undetected (where possible) run. I enjoy stealth games, but I'm also a completionist, so I tend to knock out every enemy and then ask myself "Wouldn't if have been easier and faster to just sneak through?" Of course my answer to that is "Loot? Oh yeah."

Definitely looking forward to the sequel.

Let's just hope Microsoft doesn't bribe SquareEnix to keep the new DeusEx off of Windows and make it Xbox exclusive like they did the new Tomb Raider.

Annoying indeed, but I imagine it will make it to the PC eventually... after the consolers beta test it for us.

For the record that's not console hate, as I thoroughly enjoy my PS4. That is greed hate, something MS seems to excel at lately (pun intended).

I think the mgs games were better than this game though.

I enjoyed the original, but after playing the demo for the latest iteration I about gagged. I think Hideo gotten a bit too full of himself, but that just my opinion.

Fucking bosses. I wish theyd either do away with them in games or give you the option to bypass them. Ive been stuck on Yelena or whatever the fuck her name is for a couple days now. All this shit does is bring a great game and story to a screeching halt while I figure out what stupid pattern or what trick there is. Ive about had it and it might be the uninstalling point. Getting so mad I throw shit across the room aint fun. Guess Ill get back into Borderlands 2 for a while.

Multiple options. If you're playing on PC, you can lower the difficulty level to "tell me a story". Or you could cheat using the dev mode patch. Additionally if you're playing the Director's Cut, there is an option to not kill any of the bosses.

FWIW, she's hard, but not impossible. It's a lot easier to defeat her if you have immunity to electrocution. Then it's just a lot of walking backwards, throwing mines/grenades/etc and blasting the crap out of her when she reappears. Use the exploding computers to your advantage....

Get her to run by the power generators on the outer ring of the level and shoot them when she gets near. She will be vulnerable for like 6 seconds and you can use the chaingun to kill her. It only took like 2-3 times of that and she was done for.

Yeah I figured out the electrocution thing when she get near the generator things but I dont have the invulnerability to electrocution so it pretty much kills me too. Ive tried running away and jumping since Ive got the big jump legs but havent survived yet. Im in rage quit mode now so Ill be taking some time off to where I actually want to fuck with it again. I just hate it. Pain in the ass bosses like this have been pissing me off and ruining video games for me since Karateka on the Commodore 64 back around like 1983 or 84. I got so fucking mad at that game I actually sliced the floppy apart with scissors. I was 12 and that was my first experience with nerd rage. LOL! :D

lol. I wasn't immune to the electricity either, but there is a concrete dry section where you are safe from it. You have get her at one the generators near it.

The only boss i've quit a game over was on final fantasy tactics in that castle where the guy transforms into a demon after you kill his human form. That fucking battle took me like a week to beat after quiting the game for a month since i wasn't prepared.

You should play Dark Souls. You'll love it!

Nah. Dark Souls is hard, REALLY hard, but its rarely unfair. A death is always a result of either impatience or tactical error. Both happen very often but you always learn something from it. Game has made me frustrated many times but never in "WTF thats bullshit!" kind of way.

If you have the high jump, can't you also jump up onto the dividers in the room to get out of the water?

lmao

I actually listen to a few songs from the soundtrack while working as well. I like the more relaxed ones more than the combat songs though.

Its available for anyone that has a Google music sub.

Wow I'm not sure how i didn't think of checking nexus... that's the one, it seems, loaded into a patch file.

I ended up finding this and doing it by hand lol

Inventory Stacking Mod - Page 7

Oh cool, going to bookmark that for future reference! Glad you found a mod for it!

Nexus is good a lot of the time, but not always. Always nice to find a backup way to do things because 1 patch can disable a mod you've grown to love.
