Autonomous Multi-Robot System Used To Move Vehicles

That would be so fun to mess with people with in parking decks lol Come back and your car is side ways between 2 concert barriers lol

You don't need robots. My football/track coach in high school drove a Subaru Justy, similar to the car in the video. It was small enough that we could wedge it sideways in the entryways to the school, with only a couple inches clearance on the front and back. I still to this day have no idea how he got it out of there.

He probably sneezed on it a few times.

Heh, I'm starting to wonder. With so many "jobs" (a.k.a. people) being replaced by robots, where is everybody going? ;-)

This could be really useful for small footprint parking garages in cities.

If - that is - it can move a real car, and not just that little blue toy car in their example.

Ever since the industrial revolution we have been moving slowly in this direction.

Automation replaces the simplest, lowest end manual jobs.

It happens at a slow pace though, so the economy readjusts and people prepare with skills for new job markets.

Long term though, all manual labor will be replaced. The only jobs left for humans will be the highly qualified "thinking" jobs.

In the end hard science masters degrees or PhD's will be the new high school diploma :p

If done right, this will lead to a new era of high productivity, where sure, we can't find as much work, but on the flip-side productivity will be so high, and competition will be so fierce that prices drop to the point where human living standards will reach new highs.

If history is any judge, though, we probably won't do it right. We will likely wind up with a system where the top 1% own all the automated high productivity infrastructure, and live like kings, and the rest of us will live in abject poverty.

Although I see what you're saying. I don't think this will necessarily replace jobs, but rather it will allow paid parking structures (ie: New York) to cram more vehicles in.

If they don't have to account for the doors and standard parking space sizing, they can put them close together. Because the thing can rotate sideways, they can also make lanes thinner.

And further thinking on the topic. I can imagine that someday you'd be able to set a usual "pickup" time (after work). Time hours would allow computers to optimize the space so that it can be queued with other cars that have a similar pickup time. Instead of lane|car|car|lane, it could be systematically car|car|car|car. Thus, increasing amount or cars able to be stored.

I'm watching the video and having this mental image of these things continuously ramming the car into a pole or the wall, like a roomba stuck on a loop against a chair HAHAHA. Or, one of the robots gets crushed on accident and all the other ones wander over to "stare" at him until the maintenance guy shows up and they bury it. Or scavenge parts off of it lol. Anyway, sure seems like a lot of money to move a car at mach -.09000022, but I guess you don't have to provide benefits or deal with a bad day.

"Autonomouse Vehicle Emergency Recovery Tool" ...look at that thing taking it's sweet time, no sense of urgency at all! :)

This could come in handy for assholes that take up more than one parking spot or just can't park their damn car straight in a spot.

Impressive but I can do the same thing with three to four floor jacks in a fraction of the time.
