Need help . Lookin for fan for my vid card.

You may still be able to get a replacement fan from Gigabyte. I'd send them an e-mail explaining the situation and see what they can do.

I got it refurb. so it's out of warranty. Is there a 3rd party cooler I can buy for this thing?

Find the fan part number either on the bottom of the fan that broke off, or one of the other fans. Search Google. I once bought some from aliexpress from China and it was cheaper than eBay.

I will just get a new video card. Anyone interested in a GTX 480 for $50? Windforce 3. 2 fans missing. Gigabyte. Rev 2.0. Will ship in box. Card only.

What will happen if I continue to use the card with the 2 fans missing? High temp problems?

Probably higher temps yes...considering the fan that is on there doesnt even blow directly over where the chip sits.

In the meanwhile, remove the shroud (plastic part) itself, strap on a couple few high rpm 90mm fans with zip ties.. :D

edit. or remove the fan and place it in the middle while you wait for the other fans.

I'm picking up a new card on Wednesday. Then later on i'll order the fans for the 480 fix the card and sell it because I only have 1 PC. I'm going to choose from whatever BestBuy has. They have the GTX 970 reference which is what I want but if not I'm sure they'll have something else.

I tried running the card with 2 fans. (1 in the middle and 1 in the back.) and got 108 degrees max in games. Would running 1 fan in the middle really make a difference? I'm not sure where the GPU on the card is located.

If you only have 2 fans running; you probably want them in the middle and back spots; especially in longer single GPU cards there's more stuff to the front of the GPU than behind it.

If you're not absolutely wedded to buying the card at BB; Amazon + express shipping is probably going to be cheaper overall. In most cases the too good to be true priced card they advertise online is only available at 3 stores nationwide and is to sucker you into visiting the the store where they can fob an overpriced card off on you instead.

This is a reference card PCB; but most aftermarket boards end up using either a reference PCB or something very similar even when they slap a custom cooler on it. (Unless they're going for a shorter than standard card anyway.)

I put the fan in the middle and tried it. Still I get 108 max when running Unigine Heaven. That was with Basic. I tried Max and it topped out at 109.

holy moly.

um check the paste and reapply some new on there...

i know the 480s ran hot, but jeez! that may be a bit high.

"The maximum temperature for the GPU is 105C"

So dont do long benches or it will burn up!

Where did you get this card and how where the fans damaged? Need to carefully remove the heatsink and re apply thermal paste.. thing is burning up.

Artifacts don't sound good. Can be heat related but usually a sign of a bad card.

I bet it should run around 30 idle and max of 60-70c on load depending on fan speed.

If you're running that hot, it's definitely not safe to continue. Unless you can find quality settings low enough (or games light enough) to keep it below ~90; no gaming until you have the cooler fixed. Operating at 100C will rapidly kill the GPU and make replacing the fan a moot point.

It runs cooler now. Load on Metro 2033 doesn't pass 96 degrees. It use to go upto 109.

Still sounds crazy hot. Gpu die not making proper contact to the cooler or you need to turn the fan speeds up.. No idea what case or case cooling you got going on but somethings up.

Both checked. It is running cooler though. The problems I was having before like the artifacts aren't there anymore. I'm definitely getting a new GPU for XMAS though. For sure.

Running the card in a Gateway DX4860-UB33P btw. Power Supply is a Corsair CX750M Modular.

If that's your case then it all makes sense. Slow exhaust fans.. 1 single and 1 for the power supply and zero intake. case needs a fan mounted in the front or side blowing cool air in.

Prob better off buying a cheap 40-60 dollar case and swapping the stuff in that new case.

If you go that route a cheap great case for cooling would be a Cooler Master half 912.http://www.microcenter.com/product/343331/HAF_912_Mid_Tower_ATX_Computer_Case

Have a 120mm fan for the back and 120/140mm fan on the side blowing cool air right at your card. Nice and quiet 50-60 cfm fans prob would drop those tempts 20+ celcius.
